Maybe he was coked up on the pitch. That might explain the poor performances. 🤔

It seems the guy has a drug problem. I hope this is his rock bottom and he gets the help he needs.

FFS, he's not going to lose his job because like he doesn't like Klopp. He's under investigation for the inflammatory language used, and now there seems further evidence of unprofessional behavior doing the rounds, relation to illicit drug participation.

Something has obviously happened in the background in his own life and it appears someone has it in for him. Its hardly coincidence that all these videos have surfaced at the same time.

Mod: Hi all, after some consideration by moderators I am closing off this discussion for the moment.

The forum is intended for general discussion of soccer. In the main we discuss things related to the game at a relatively superficial level and things move on quickly. We would generally be talking about people's actions around a game of soccer.

In this instance a more forensic discussion about an individual's life is a feature. The wellbeing of an individual person is more important than our wishes to discuss their actions or speculate on the situation and in the end that type of discussion is not the intent of the forum.

The item can be reconsidered again another time as news develops but for now we are going to keep this item closed.

    Thank you.

Back in the spotlight again, under investigation for spot fixing it seems..

This is by far the most serious allegation of the ones that we’ve seen so far. If there is evidence to substantiate this, he needs to be out of football permanently.

This latest one is the first actual allegation of wrongdoing on the pitch, correct (though every team probably has 10 incidents of wrongdoing against them in every game)?

He is a poor referee based on his decision making, both on and off the pitch - his poorest decisions are seemingly his choice of friends who are happy to leak sensitive information.

Hopefully this is the last we hear of him and he goes away to get clean/sober and retrained in a new profession.

    Contract terminated unsurprisingly

Coote sacked. It was never going to end any other way.

Some of the takes on here about redemption and second chances for referees were a sight to behold. As was the utter nonsense around managers sideline behaviours etc. As if any of that stuff meant it was ok for a top level referee to be recorded saying what he said. I'd say the icing on the cake was him organizing a cocaine party on his mobile phone while 4th official in a league cup game that was about to kick off. Or maybe the real icing on the cake (pardon the pun) was the video of Coote from the Euros.

    Redemption indeed.

I'd forgotten the FA were also investigating Coote for betting fraud regarding yellow cards in a West Bronx Leeds game a few years ago.

This guy will go down as one of the biggest stains in English football history when all is said and done. Redemption indeed.

It's funny cos the yellow card in question he had no choice with. He was probably delighted it happened

I hope you never have a family member suffer from addiction issues. As regards the rest of your victory lap, managers and clubs officials absolutely need to have a hard look at themselves. Some of the behaviour Coote had to deal with was so far beyond the pale. That doesn't excuse what Coote done but two wrongs don't make a right. On a human level I hope Coote gets the help he needs and football fans leave him alone to get on with his life away from the game

Hard to feel sorry for him tbh. You have to deal with the consequences of your actions. That's life.

What is this all about? Is he a recovering addict? Has this been proven? What exactly are his addictions - drugs? gambling? terrible refereeing? I'd be very interested to see where all these addiction problems have been reported and proven to be true regards David Coote?

I've watched Coote referee for years. A deer in the headlights. To me, it looks like he somehow failed upwards in his career. Doesn't seem like an intelligent or sharp guy whatsoever either on the pitch or off it. He should have been sacked numerous times through the years for simply being appalling at his job.

As for the stuff about Klopp or other managers being absolute c*nts on sidelines, I agree that they really shouldn't be c*nts should they? Now what that has to do with a referee who has allowed himself to be recorded off his game, in a state that means that if he ever refereed again nobody could possibly think he is refereeing without bias, I do not know.

When he was videoed at the Euros sniffing a white powder, is that because Klopp is a c*nt on the sideline? When he was on his mobile phone organizing a cocaine party a few minutes before kick off of a league cup game recently, is that because Klopp is a c*nt on the sideline? When he allegedly fixed yellow cards for betting purposes in a Leeds West Brom game a few years ago, is that also because Klopp is a c*nt on the sideline?

    No….

But he was definitely filmed calling Klopp a *not nice person* because Klopp is a *not nice person* 😂

Coote is a fool, no doubt about it (everything that has come out has shown he was just a ticking time bomb) but there is also a massive issue with what is allowed to be directed towards the ref at all levels of football. You won't attract a better level of professional into the game if most of your life is you being abused by players, manager and then fans outside the pitch.

2 of those can be very easily controlled.

Edit : Fixed my poor use of language there

    Mod Edit: Warning issued

But like, they're literally the ones who can dictate what is ok to say to them… like, they can give a yellow or red card to a manager who's overstepping any time at all. There wouldn't even be controversy - Klopp's gotten a few and each time just said 'yeah, fair enough'. Same with Slot recently. You actually rarely hear managers getting pissy about getting a card - they might complain about the reffing that led to it, but when it comes to their behaviour it's there for everyone to see and they usually take it on the chin.

It's just such an easily rectified issue that they're in complete control of themselves already, but for some reason are weirdly inconsistent about when to exercise those powers.

Managers not being arsed about getting a yellow card probably shows that it isn't a fit deterrent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,560 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

it might be if they actually used them with more frequency and consistency. Give a yellow and at worst it immediately shuts their mouth for the rest of the day. If it’s egregious enough, give a red. Like, it’s obviously a useful tool which they’re just far too reluctant to use.

They’ve been pushing the whole ‘respect’ campaign for aeons at this stage, but don’t back it up themselves.

I just don’t think there’s much credibility in complaining about behaviour when you’re in the exact direct role to police that behaviour, and then don’t.

    I totally agree Rebel.

As an Arsenal fan, I can see a bit of difference in Arteta's attitude, he seems to have a bit more control in his complaining. Mind you, we haven’t seen any major decisions against Arsenal (minus the red cards, which can be justified anyway) 🙃🙃
