Renewal with Aviva, 47, full no claims, never had a crash, nothing. Gone from 310 last year to 612, I can't figure it out. Herselfs is due now too and hers has remained the same.

    ThThe mind boggles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 129 ✭✭mikehammer..

That's weird I'm with An post/Aviva probably 15 yrs and it never varies much

Even went down after a small claim against me

Renewed with Allianz, fully comp down from €480 to €403 on a 7 year old mondeo. This included a discount of about €20 for renewing online. Didn't question it this year..

Usually ok if you have owned the car. If you were to buy the car and tell the insurance companies that you have only had it a shot while they probably would not quite you at all.

I can't understand it either. Did a quick quote with an post, 360

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,512 ✭✭✭Roberto_gas

Funny enough a new quote with same parameters was 780 ! So they like to retain their customers and I am not complaining. They also gave a car wash last time I renewed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,471 ✭✭✭ofcork

Just got my renewal from chill gone up to 636 from 500 last 2 years 53 full licence no claims or points on a 2012 2l diesel avensis absolutely ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,471 ✭✭✭ofcork

If you do a quote as a new customer would a company give it to you for that price

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,764 ✭✭✭Cape Clear

Yes.I did it with Zurich last year the renewal was way higher. I also gave their rep an ear full about gouging which in hindsight I probably should have charged him for.

I've also done it year on year with Zurich, I never bothered contacting them I just paid for it and that was insurance sorted for another year. I'm with BG for my electricity for this year's battle, BG rewards gives a nice discount in fairness.

    20 yr old volkwagen

axa went from 620 to 700

    aviva 390

    weird stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 276 ✭✭Sapele

oh yeah axa used to give a cheaper quote if i went online as a new customer quote but didnt happen this year and online was same as renewal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,500 ✭✭✭SCOOP 64

Surprised Aviva quoted you at all, My car 26 year old car wouldn't quote.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 276 ✭✭Sapele

yeah actually didnt think about that, fingers crossed aviva have reasonable renewals in the future i would have renewed with axa for the 620 tho wasnt happy with the higher amount i had to pay so looked around a few places offered no online quote i presume due to car age, seems a bit of a lottery to me anyway but the price difference for me was too much to ignore this year

24 Year old male, 4 year NCB 4 years driving, 2020 Focus

Insurance was gradually going down year on year but jumped by 195 euro or so this year for some reason. Last year redclick 608, this year renewal 795.

Chill.ie lowest was redclick for 640 (rang redclick, wouldn’t match, lowest they’d go was 700)

    123ie 840

    Its4women 720 (no extras)

    Aviva 820

    Allianz 780 (basic comprehensive)

    Zurich 820 with OBS code

    BOI 3.1k

    AIB 795

    SuperValu 760

AA 661 comprehensive + full NCB protection AA membership (580 without)

    AXA 900

Ended up taking the AA offer. The whole thing about it being 580 and 661 with the membership confused me, thought I could get away without the Membership, and still have breakdown assistance based on the quote online (there was a tick next to 24:7 breakdown assistance) but alas they said no I need to pay the 80 quid for it. Hopefully the 3 cents off Circle K will add up!

very disappointed that my quote has gone up though with an additional year NCB. Didn’t expect them all to be so high.

any known insurers out there who will insure an 8 seater? Volkswagen Shuttle/Kombi/Transporter?

My own company are unsure, however, I need such a vehicle out of necessity and not luxury. So insuring one is a must, somehow.

What have your own company said? There should be no difficulty unless they thought you were wanting to insure a minibus that could carry more than 8 passengers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,910 ✭✭✭CoBo55

I picked a reg from a VW Caravelle on carzone, AXA gave a quote for €698, I said I was born in 1970, gave a fake email and phone number so they won't plague me to death.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 212 ✭✭TheQ_Man

it’s legally registered as a Volkswagen Kombi. Even through they are all the same thing. The registration number was bringing nothing up as it’s the driver plus 8 passengers. It’s gone to the underwriters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,910 ✭✭✭CoBo55

Very strange behaviour by your insurance company, your standard car license covers you to carry 8 passengers so they can't use that excuse.

it’s rare though. Not too many people going around with one of them. Plus it’s the risk on their end. That’s how they see it. No word back on it yet.

The driver is responsible for all passengers in his vehicle. If he is the cause of an accident, there is the potential for 8 personal injury claims in his vehicle, in addition to his liability to the 3rd party

Was with Zurich - last year was €405 this year the renewal was quoted at €450 - so an 11% increase. Aviva looks like they are the most competitive based on the above.

    Age: 32

    No claims: 8 yrs

    Car: 1.2L Petrol 2024

    Full clean licence

    Comp Quotes (all online):

    123.ie - 325

    Its4Women - 430

    FBD - 490

    Chill - 490

    Aviva - 500

    Allianz Renewal - 515 (390 last year)

    AIG - 520

    Redclick - 535

    AA - 550

    AXA - 590

    An Post - 640

    SuperValu - 670

    Campion - 780

    Kennco - 860

As usual, the key message is "shop around". Only once has the renewal been competitive enough to renew for me - usually it's at least e100 worse than my best quote, and they rarely move if its more than that. Some of the insurers seen to pull the numbers out of their arse - every year I have one quote that's almost triple the best quote despite giving the same details. Every major insurer has given me a shite uncompetitive quote at some point. I suspect it's because risk algorithms tell them they need more or less of different profiles of customers at different times of the year in order to make profit, and I've just caught them at a bad time.

I figure you probably need about 10 quotes to get within e100 of the absolute best quote you could get. Your best bet is a mix of brokers and big insurance companies because some underwriters don't allow direct quotes. I don't answer the phone to any company that hasn't online quoted me within e100 of my best quote - waste of my time and theirs.

one thing that came to mind as I went through all the quotes: first, what a complete PITA the quote process is. No matter how 'smart' their apps or web portals are - and some are very easy - it does get tedious re-doing it 12 x times over.

It would be great if you could submit a standard form of…document/sheet/file that all the insurance companies could work with and you could just update & submit that file to each company, rather than re-keying it over & over again.

You might think that's what's happeing with Bonkers and the AA, but the disparity even across the quotes they get, even from the same underwriters means you still need to go to every one.

Right, I now have to repeat this twice more in the next 30 days………….(sigh)……..

Old 2010 1400 Ford Focus male 65ish full Irish Licence, no previous claims, full ncb wife as named driver. Includes 3rd party for driving other cars.

AXA renewal with some extras, protected NCD, replacement car, rescue etc

    €412.20 (last year €380)

May not bother doing more than phoning and seeing if AXA will do a better deal, normally get a few percent off, iirc last years quote was similar but got a discount off that when I asked.

Edit> Quick call to AXA and got a discretionary discount of €20.20. Worth the effort and paid by card there and then €390
