Unfortunately the hurlers' game v Tipp was called off due to weather.

Considine and McNamara were down to start, good also to see John Conneally down to start.

We have the same conversation every year(!) but John Conlon cannot keep going forever, and we need to give a credible alternative no. 6 game time. Whether that be moving Diarmuid Ryan or McInerney across, or going with Cian Galvin, Conneally or maybe Ross Hayes.

Lohan pulled the plug, Tipp wanted it too go ahead.

New additions to the Football panel. From the Clare Echo.

CLARE’s senior football panel has fourteen new additions for 2025 including a mix of familiar and fresh faces.

Peter Keane has made fourteen additions to his Clare panel, he already has experienced more options available than his predecessor and fellow Kerry man Mark Fitzgerald who was without thirteen of the 2023 panel for his sole season in charge prompting him to call up sixteen footballers at the beginning of last year.

After a year out, two time All Star nominee Eoin Cleary makes a welcome return to the Clare panel. The Miltown Malbay man made his championship debut under Colm Collins in 2014, he was appointed captain in 2020 and maintained the role until last season.

Cleary has been one of the county’s greatest forwards over the last decade and his return is a huge boost to their attack but also to the dressing room in terms of the experience he brings. He is the winner of three Clare SFCs with St Joseph’s Miltown and lined out with Munster in the Railway Cup to trial out the new rule changes. He spent the summer in America playing Gaelic football for Chicago Wolfe Tones where he won a national title.

Offering a similar lift to the forward line is the lively Keelan Sexton. He had been based in America last year which prompted his exit from the Clare panel but now that he is working as a solicitor in the capital he has answered the call to return to the county cause.

Indeed Sexton first joined the senior panel in 2015 when he was still playing for the county minors, demonstrating his talent. He is the holder of three Clare SFCs with Kilmurry Ibrickane but is set for a move to Dublin club Na Fianna.

Evan Cahill who lined out alongside Sexton for Kilmurry Ibrickane in their run to the Clare SFC final in 2024 has been added to the panel. The Kilmaley teenager offers a physical presence in the middle third and lined out at centre back and midfield in his first senior championship campaign.

Man of the match in the 2024 county final, Colm Walsh O’Loghlen increases the Éire Óg contingent on the county panel. He hit 2-18 in the 2024 championship and was top scorer for Paul Madden’s champions. It was  his second year on the senior panel having put away the football gloves following their 2017 Minor A championship win over Ennistymon.

Also a very talented soccer player, Colm has lined out with Limerick FC, Mervue Utd and most recently Pike Rovers. At Pike, he won back to back league titles in 2022 and 2023, the Lawson Cup two years running while coming very close to winning the FAI Junior Cup in 2022 losing to Villa FC of Waterford.

Wolfe Tones’ 2024 intermediate winning captain Dean Devanney has been added to the county senior squad for the first time in his career. The Shannon man who was very effective with off the shoulder runs. He also won a Clare IHC medal with the Tones in the season gone by.

Lissycasey’s presence on the county panel has increased by three. Thomas Collins who lined out between the posts at minor and U20 for his county makes the step-up to the senior panel, he has battled with former Clare minor goalkeeper Killian Normoyle for the club number one jersey.

Ex Clare U20 forward Connor Meaney put down a fine club campaign serving at centre back and the main man marker for Aidan ‘Horse’ Moloney’s side who reached the quarter-finals.

Captain of the victorious Lissycasey minors in 2021, Darragh Killeen joins Keane’s panel. He featured at wing forward for the club’s senior in the season just gone.

Also seeing their club representation on the county panel grow by three is Doonbeg. Goalkeeper Eamonn Tubridy who was previously part of the squad during Colm Collins’ reign and featured in the Allianz National Football League returns. Tubridy has also been one of his club’s most consistent players.

One of the standout players in the 2024 Clare SFC was Darragh Burns of Doonbeg. While the Magpies never took flight, Burns was in fine form at corner forward where he showed his ability to kick excellent scores off each boot.

Former Clare minor and U20 footballer Tadhg Lillis also joins the senior set-up. The Doonbeg defender has struggled with injuries in recent seasons which saw him sidelined for the 2023 club championship.

Fresh from winning an U21A medal for the first time with St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield, Fionn Kelleher and Joseph Rafferty have been recruited to the senior side. The duo have both played minor and U20 for Clare.

Kelleher who is comfortable in any spot in defence is often giving the man marking task for his club. He missed out on his final year with the Clare U20s due to injury. Rafferty is an inside forward with plenty of potential.

Completing the new recruits is Rory McMahon of Kildysart. He was part of their side to win the 2022 intermediate football championship, he was a central player in their success then and has remained so in their two seasons at senior. He has typically been wing back for the side. He is the older brother of regular starter Emmet.

Tubridy, Burns, Kelleher, Cahill, Collins, McMahon, Rafferty and Walsh O’Loghlen all featured in Clare’s challenge game win over Limerick.

Sean McAllister Clondegad also part of panel played in midfield alongside Brian McNamara from Cooraclare in recent challenge match versus Limerick. Sean McAllister in his final year of Clare u20 also

no this young lad is from doonbeg , a very good corner back , i think he was invited into the panel last year but declined the offer , hopefully he commits fully this year , he was very good for doonbeg in the club championship this year

there will be more added in to the panel after the u20 campaign , i am hoping to see us attack the league like we did last year , plenty of rest for TK and John conlon and plenty of game time for the likes of crotty , jack o'neill, john connealy , jack kirwin , ian mcnamara , shane meehan ,robin mounsey keith smyth , sean rynne and dathi lohan , colm o'meara has real potential too

the likes of ronan o'connor conor whelan and diarmuid stritch are all involved in u20s this year i think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 jamesconlan85

Looking at the football panel its exciting i suppose the four names that jump out that are not involved

    1. Brendy Rouine Ennistymon one would imagine of injury free an absolute cert
    2. Darragh Conneally Ennistymon again if injury free would be a cert
    3. Gavin Cooney Eire Og if back in Clare it's surprise not involved he is 2 young tb retired
    4. Jayme Sullivan Wolfe Tones can cover full back, centre back, midge seems an obvious choice

yes agree with all that, Conor Whelan looks like a smashing hurler, hope he gets call up and accepts it, always thought James Organ could have a lot to offer, these League games are vitally important in blooding squad players and up to speed of the cut and thrust of senior intercounty action, hope a lot of the main players get very action for the first 3 games at least

Is Jame Malone retired or injured? I see he didn't play with Corofin last year but was listed as a selector.

Peter Keane has a big job of work on his hands, fair play to him for taking it on. Serious lack of options at midfield and in the pivotal centre back position.

I thought Darren O'Neill was coming back. Bohannon will be a massive loss.

Hi lads kk man here. What sort of team will ye have out In 2 weeks? Presume o Donnell or Conlon won't hurl much league. And I heard cleary and Duggan had surgery.

We'll hopefully have few new faces. Tallis will be in the goal and blanchfieid centre back.

Diarmuid Ryan also injured and expected to miss a few of the early rounds.

    • hard to know what Lohan has planned, I think he will change keepers, Foudy is probably the best keeper in the county but screwed up badly against Tipperary a few years ago but his club form is keeping him in the picture
    • daragh Lohan slotted in full back for the all Ireland final I reckon he will play a few league games at full back, John coneally and jack O'Neil are promising prospects from the last 2 u20 teams , Cathal Malone is only back on the panel and played no club championship , Lohan will always play 6 or 7 regulars while looking at younger lads so I expect the likes of Adam Hogan , mark Rodgers , David McInerney ,David reidy and Arron shanagher to start
    • this is only a guess I have heard nothing from the panel
    • 1.Eamon Foudy

Cheers. League so competitive this year hard for new guys to make an impression. We need to find a few players with the retirements of Walter and fogarty and another few dropped off panel. Eoin Lyng might be a new player to watch out for

Cork look to be going well already with a strong squad. Galway will be interesting with new management. Desperately need new lads to step up.

Wexford will struggle big time with their older lads either retiring or injury prone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,389 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

yeah himself and moylan are big prospects, big leagues ahead for billy drennan and Jordan Morris to try and nail down a starting place come championship and back up there underage form, gearoid Dunne probably has his place secured I imagine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

O'Hanlon will be a big void to replace and Liam Ryan's recent injury record is a concern, To be fair Dee didn't play a minute league or championship last year. Alot of youth in training at the moment between the u20s that lost to ye by a point in 2022 Leinster Final and the team that lost to Offaly by 2 in 2023 u20 Leinster final, think out of a panel of 48 or 49 ( that will be cut down in the next few weeks) they make up 21 of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 350 ✭✭Nedflanders02

I'm not sure about Lyng, he's a good hurler but seriously lacks pace which I think will hold him back. I think the half back line we are more than likely going to see for most of the league is Blanch at centre and then 2 wing backs from Murphy/Carey/Molloy/Mackessy. Be interesting to see what full back line he'll pick for the Clare game, I think Huw will obviously be full back and I'd like to see Moylan in one corner and then one of Vereker/Connellan in the other corner going down to Ennis will be a great test for them to see if they're up to it.

In fairness to Wexford, they tried an awful lot of young players in last years league which will bring them on a good bit, if they could find another forward or 2 they'll be nicely set up for championship.

A few years ago before the 2013 all Ireland final clare supporters were communally known as "Kilkenny with there 3 all irelands"!! , thankfully we have increased that success rate by 66% over the last ten years …..

the only thing clare supporters have in common with kilkenny is the nickname at the moment, We have been wandering around our homes like cat bugler's since yesterday evening with flash lamps for fear of being taken out of it by a footstool or slipping on that custom made babs keating doormat in the kitchin…..here the team for tomorrow!!😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,389 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

A tricky tie in belfast to open the league for peter keane , delighted to see eamon tubridy back in goals , probably the best keeper in the county was harshly overlooked in the past , sean mcallister and fionn killiher come in on good under age form over the last couple of years , the new rules will definitely suit , great to see eoin cleary and keelan sexton back , i expect manus to spend a lot of time at wing back too .

Antrim are no mugs , ryan McQuillan , the aghagallon version of ruari mccann is a top class forward that will thrive under the new rules , his exact double ruari mccann from creggan is a serious worker and will run all day , as will dermot McAleese and Joe Finnegan at half back ,

a really tough game awaits from a side that pushed us all the way in the park last year and pushed Meath 2 years ago and laois last year all the way in the tailtenn cup semi finals , heres the clare team

Defeat for the hurlers, prob a bit light in the forward line ultimately

Leen and McInerney going off injured wasn’t ideal

But positives also , Smyth, Galvin, O’Neill among others did well. We need to use the league to develop squad depth.

it wasnt a great game to watch but a perfect introduction for lads like jack o'neill to be going up against paddy deagen and hold his own , made a few mistakes positionally in the first half and once or twice took too much out of possession at times but minor faults and worked really hard

i was impressed with ian mcnamara , he sometimes would find himself behind his man but would recover well , john conneally probably struggled on gearoid dunne but dune is going to be an excellent forward if he continues from his underage form

david conroy was excellent at times i taught which surprised me a little , cian galvin is starting to show levels of experience now too , he had a brilliant second half , smyth got a couple of excellent scores after he came on too i taught , donal has some work done up there with the underage coaching ( i presume he was involved with killineana ) because smyth and ian mc look like options off the bench for later in the year already

ross hayes did very well after he came on for david mc and has earned his starting place for the next day ,paddy donnellan had a fine game too after he came on , his distribution to the inside line is his strong point every ball he played into the forwards found a man , his delivery of the ball is excellent and got a fine score as well

Anyone at the football today?Could earn it now for promotion, some tricky teams in this division.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,389 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

with the power cuts yesterday i was half thinking of going up , only a few went up , and thanks to deride murphys regimental approach to live streaming the game to players and parents , if the squad players or families wanted to see the game they had to make there way to the falls road

i spoke to one parent that went up , he said it was a bad day above weatherwise , stormey and a crossfield wind , shooting from distance was out , and antrim were very defensive , brian mac had a really good game which is no surprise , and my club mate kicked ciaran downes kicked 1-1 , but emmett had been flying the last few weeks ,especially kicking scores from outside the arc only scored a point from play , it was impossible given the conditions today

by the sound of what i am hearing its going to take us a while to get to terms with the new rules , but i still see us with a promotion shout given we have 4 home games and 2 away games ahead of us

id say kildare will win the division handy , fermanagh are good but getting old and offaly have serious talent coming through but dont know how to use it , it would seem , i imagine kildare will top the group and a traffic jam for second place , we should be in that jam but whether we make the lights or not is another story

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 308 ✭✭Krazy gang

Very impressed with sone of yere young lads. Not easy so many thrown in together. Conroy and galvin were very good while Keith Smyth got 2 cracking points off huw lawlor. No mean feat. Looks like a lad who will see championship action.

I'd say Derek will be happy enough after a terrible start. Mossy was outstanding, Tallis mackessy and McDonald did well of the newcomers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,389 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

to start with peter McDonald had a brilliant game , he was being targeted by cathal malone who was one of our few seasoned players playing today , and got the better of him , mossy was excellent in the first half in particular got some great scores especially 0-9 0-2 0-9 0-4 points down ,

it was a low tempo game a bit like the old waterford crystal games in early january but it was much tougher battle , i think gearoid dunne had a fine game after he came on , he was being marked by john conneally , he set up one score and scored a blinder , coneally is fairly close to adam hogan in terms of ability and was hogans replacement last year at u20 level

there is good players coming through but if they still struggle against hue lawlor or mikey butler or gearoid dunne we still have plenty of work to do ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 647 ✭✭✭Treble double

Conditions were brutal in Corrigan Park yesterday, swirling wind and driving rain which got worse as the game wore on, the pitch started to deteriorate badly in the second half. The referee gave serious consideration to calling it off at halftime but I suppose the travel distance for the Clare squad and supporters may have been taken into consideration. Clare got on top in the second half and looked good for a comeback closing the gap to 3 and motoring well, when they were pinged for not keeping 3 up and a free in front of the posts and losing possession from the resultant kickout scuppered them. They battled on to the end, but with it hard enough to keep your footing standing still let alone kick a ball, the goal they needed was never likely. Fionn Kelleher on his debut at 6 was outstanding, he looks like the real deal a very dogged defender who reads the game well, hopefully he blossoms into a star player.

Clare team named for tomorrows game against leitrim , sees pretty much the same team as the team that lost to antrim in belfast, cillian rouine is a serious doubt as he went off injured last sunday , the best replacement available for me would evan cahill after the fine championship he had with kilmurry

what do i know about leitrim , not a lot , not because they are minnows but because they have a vastly changed team from last summers tailtenn cup where they showed up played well making the latter stages of the competition , the team they have announced has no ryan o'rourke , no barry mcnulty, no jack foley and no darragh rooney who were excellent in the competition

i actually know more about the management , stephan poucher is a highly regarded coach from co down that has been all over the country , he was involved with turlough o'connor in carlow and the great run they went on a few years back , he has brought in daniel st ledger who is still regarded as a sham, daniel played for kilrush under age for years while his father worked in moneypoint for years and had the family stayed he would have been a formidable player for colm collins over the last ten years , the family moved to carlow where he had an impressive inter county career and yes he is related to sean st ledger who lined out for ireland in the 2012 european championships

all great information but useless in relation to how the game will go tomorrow , i am looking forward to see how we take to the new rules

    Clare 2-17 Leitrim 0-10

A comfortable win in cusack park for the footballers , brian mcnamara failed a fitness test before the game which left midfield light , ikem went midfield and cillian McCrorey was drafted in , the goals came from ikem and alan sweeney halfway through the second half , eoin cleary kicked 2 2 pointers and took his tally overall to 6 points , a positive performance without brian mc and dermot coughlin

    clare ratings

    1. Eamon Tubridy. (7): most of his kickouts to midfield were turned over with no brian mc but got involved well up the field
    2. Manus Doherty. (8). Keeped his man quiet all day and won some crucial turnovers
    3. cillian brennan (7.) Again not overly troubled by his marker but held the line well
    4. Cillian Rouine (6) Worked tirelessly hard but made some desperate errors , one very nearly led to a leitrim goal
    5. Cillian Mcgorey (7) Drafted in at the last minute and worked hard , a really good league debut
    6. Fionn Kelliher (7) Didn't get involved as much as he normally would but held the fort well at the same time
    7. Alan Sweeney (8) took his goal well but was a stand out player long before he scored it
    8. Sean McAllister (6) Struggled in midfield on his own with no brian mc but took his score well
    9. Ikem Ugweuru (6) not a midfielder and struggled all day but scored a brilliant goal to make up for it
    10. Eoin Cleary . (8) Man of the match especially on his first half performance
    11. Emmett McMahon (7) another solid performance chipped in with 3 points from play
    12. Daniel Walsh (7) Worked hard all day and took his score well despite playing a more withdrawn role
    13. Ciaran Downes (6) covered huge amounts of ground but his shooting let him down at times
    14. Aaron Griffin (7) The best of the front 3 forwards got a couple of great scores either side of half time
    15. Keelan Sexton (6) A frustrating day for keelan was double marked all day and got very little scoring opportunities
    16. subs , out of the 5 subs introduced , evan cahill and conor meaney made the biggest impacts cahill set up sweneys goal and meaney steamed the tide in midfield under the leitrim kickouts , roary mcmahon , cormac murray and shane griffin were the other late introductions

Line ups for tonight's game, I would expect to see two changes in that Clare team with both Adam Hogan and Conor leen both carrying knocks

Leen went off late in the Kilkenny game and Hogan is also rumoured to be out, John Coneeley and Rory Hayes would be the likely replacements although it's possible daragh Lohan will drop back to full back again

Bit of pressure on the front men to show up tonight, Shane Meehan and Aaron shanagher were quite against Kilkenny by there own standards, and Patrick Crotty struggled with Mikey Carey so it's a big game for him to put that right

Despite the indifferent start Cianan Fahey , Gavin lee have both been excellent for the tribesmen and it's highly likely Declan McLoughlin will feature if not start after last weeks performance in Nolan park, the Galway forwards are much stronger then ours tonight so it will be a battle if nothing else

    Galway 2-21 Clare 0-20

Possibly a little bit flattering as it could have been much worse , however , had it not been for a brutal period of dominance in the last ten minutes of the first half it could have been closer

Cyrill Farrell was on commentary duty for galway bay fm , shortly after the anthem he declared that galway would win and win well given the strength between the sides , but i doubt he would have foreseen the impact anthony burns would have on the game , by the time he finished off his second goal of the night he was 6/6 against his marker ian mcnamara , ian is a brilliant corner back and has a huge future ahead of him but tonight is one he will remember for all the wrong reasons

the sharpness of galway cant be ignored they were miles ahead of us , micheal o'donohue drafted in 53 players into the galway panel and has used the best part of 30 players in 3 games , he will be delighted with the progress the squad is making especially the younger lads , burns , declan McLoughlin who didnt play tonight , the brilliant newcomer at wing back cillian tryers and tiernan killeen it looks like they are putting together a serious team together

For lohan though this is what we want to see , plenty of fringe players and younger lads getting a look in , now is the time to do it , it was a major criticism of many clare supporters in 2014 that we didnt do enough of , the fringe players never got a look in and it backfired later in the year , patrick crotty had a much better game tonight ,cian galvin looks better every game he plays , ross hayes while still green at times looks like a great long term option at 6 , and rory hayes had a really good second half , tony looked like he lacked sharpness when he came on , aidan mccarthy had a fine first half ,and in fairness to shanagher in the second when he came on got involved , i like paddy donnellan his delivery of the ball is usually top class , tonight it was poor and that's his main strength , eamon foudy still looks intercounty standards but still looks like he could make another mistake at the same time

walking back towards taylors hill tonight we were talking about just how important the regular players are to the panel and we probably need to have 7 or 8 rather then just 5 or 6 starters to help improve the younger lads coming through , we need to stick to giving them game time even against limerick and cork but we will need to see a return of more regular faces to avoid any more hammerings

Footballers face Fermanagh in the park tomorrow , the visitors had a poor start in round 1 against kildare and made about 5 changes for the win the last day against antrim , brian mc is named to start for clare which is a huge addition as we really struggled in midfield in his absence against leitrim , he will have his hands full keeping tabs on darragh mcgurn who had a serious game against antrim

forwards , garvan jones , ulten kelim and conor love will be the main dangers whille josh largo ellis is the type of hard working forward that will love these new rules , sean Cassidy is back from injury but only on the bench is probably fermanaghs best forward when fully fit

the young clare bench looks strong if players need to be called upon but michael garry and dermot coughlin are still a big loss not to have , a tough game instore ,i am intressted to see how fermanagh take to the new rules they were one of the tightest defending teams in the country under the older format

    midfield is a big worry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,389 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

bohanann is a huge loss but keane had 3 options for midfield to cover brian mc and didnt against leitrim , now in fairness the game was never in danger at any point but why put ikem in midfield when daniel walsh emmett mcmahon or even ciaran downs could slot in there , i would argue for kilmihil downes played some of his best football for us a few years ago when senior there

we need to use the rotation of corner backs better too , its a waste having manus and cillian rouine not able to cross the half way line drop back daniel walsh or sean mccallister to let one of the other two lads up the field

in the munster final last year manus had david clifford constantly following him back down the field and took him out of the game as a result

    Clare 1-17 Fermanagh 1-15

Declan McCusker will fell like the most unluckiest footballer in the country heading up home to fermanagh tonight , the fermanagh captain had a 2 point effort 3 minutes into injury time to level the game with the last kick of the game , his 45 yard effort hit the inside of the post and then down onto the crossbar and bounced out to the grateful arms of ikem ugwuru the final whistle sounded shortly afterwards , its worth watching the highlights tomorrow night for that alone

Emmett mcmahon was un markable for clare kicking a total of 10 points 8 from play , eoin cleary notched up 4 3 from play which acted as the difference between the sides , fermanagh dominated most of the midfield duels which is a worry going forward , the clare kick out strategy needs an upgrade for the trip to sligo next sunday

    player ratings

Eamon Tubridy (6), not his fault most of the kickouts were over turned in midfield but needs help from management to come up with a better strategy

Manus Doherty (7) : kept his man to only one point from play and instrumental in several clare attacks

Cillian Brennan (7) Had a slow start but had an excellent second half

Cillian Rouine (7) A better game then last week had the awkward task of marking josh largo ellis and held his own

Ikem Ugwuru (7) one of the hardest workers on the field set up two crucial second half scores when the game was in the balance

Cillian McGroary (6) Another solid outing was called ashore with 20 minutes to go didnt do a whole lot wrong'

Alan Sweeney (8) really good second half and a crucial early first half goal another top performance

Brian McNamara (7) struggled at times under the kick out but attacked well ,Mcgurn struggled against him in open play

Sean McAlister (6) A mixed afternoon , struggled against joe mcdade, was moved back into center back later in the game

Eoin Cleary (8) 3 points from play one of them a 2 pointer , himself and mcmahon the best players on the pitch

Emmett McMahon (9) 8 points from play and looked to be carrying a knock in the second half , man of the match

Daniel Walsh (6) was having a good game but picked up a yellow card and another warning shortly afterwards , was replaced by conor meaney at half time

Ciaran Downes (7) Quiet enough first half but kicked two crucial points from play in the second half

Aaron Griffin (6) was marked well by lee cullen and got very little scoring opportunities as a result

Keelan Sexton (6) Looks like a man out of form at the moment also well marshalled by che cullen for most of the game

    Subs

Conor Meaney (6) Had some good moments after replacing daniel walsh but still looks a bit green

Evan Cahill (7) Had a brillint last 20 minutes after being introduced for mcgorry , not far off starting the next day

Cormac Murray (6) got on limited ball after being introduced with 5 minutes to go

Darragh Burns (5) A late introduction in added time not on long enough to make an impact

    Clare Scorers

    Emmett McMahon 0-10

    Eoin Cleary 0-4

    Alan Sweeney 1-0

    Ciaran Downes 0-2

    Brian Mcnamara 0-1

Offaly are flying since Mickey Harte came and so too are Kildare. So they are the teams to beat in league, if we can beat Sligo we will have the three Leinster teams in the last 3 games for a chance of promotion.

I think in terms of the kickouts you now need either a great fetching midfielder or else lads that are great at ready breaking ball as most kickouts are going long. So I wouldn’t be blaming kickouts on the goalkeepers.

Look we probably are a good bit off where we were 5 or 6 years ago, but no reason why we can’t get promoted as we have a fairly good record in recent years against the 4 teams we have left to play.

Ya people need to open their eyes and see that with the new rules, there is no kickout strategy. The ball has to be kicked beyond the arc and you won't get it away short against any half decent team, it was possible against Leitrim but they are in a bad place. In Div 1 the kickouts are being belted to a contest because there is no other choice. Clare have only one fetcher and this is a massive problem. Future opponents will have copped this and will blot him out by any means necessary, we are desperately poor on breaking ball as well. I put it down to 15 years of short kickouts and tippy tippy possession football, this generation of players are very poor in the air and have no anticipation of breaking ball. The days of the Galvins and Doohers are back. Fermanaghs Cullen brothers cleaned our inside forwards yesterday and Peter Keane and his management team were way too slow in taking the inside boys off. Still a great win and we are going in the right direction, but we need to start unearthing fetchers and scavengers, they probably are not there because I doubt our academy coaches were grooming that type of player. The new rules have changed the scene.
