Thought they were planning a series about his son or is that idea gone out the window.

That would have been interesting but a prequel not so much. I can see a prequel of a lot of episodes where he doesn't get caught, unless of course they completely ignore what happened in the original series. 😛

Slater and whoever that is playing young Deb I think are OK but I really don't like the guy they chose for young Dexter.

Looks absolutely nothing like him whatsoever.

    Trailer for the prequel series.

Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Golden Globe® winner Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. With special narration from Golden Globe® and SAG winner Michael C. Hall returning as the inner voice of Dexter, witness the beginning as Dexter’s darkness first comes to light in DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN…

That is a very bland choice for the lead.

I'm pretty sure this entire premise was covered in a handful of flashbacks over the original 4-season run of Dexter.

I just saw this advertised at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, and after a quick search, found this thread.

    I'll be tuning in.

I say this as a massive Dexter fan - I could not care less about this prequel series.

Resurrection on the other hand I can not wait for - assuming they don't f##k it up (again).

An okay opening episode and not as bad as I was expecting.

I was pleasantly surprised. Im not sure on some of the casting choices. The actor playing Dex keeps doing this smirk which seems out of character. Not really warming to Deb either.

I was really afraid this was going to be Dex in Highschool. I am very glad it is not. I am also very happy that they have established that he survived the events of New Blood.

Thought they were planning a series about his son or is that idea gone out the window.

That had been the idea in New Blood, but Harrison was pretty much hated by the fans. A mixture of the actor or the way he was written, I'm not sure but he rubbed people up the wrong way, so they ditched that idea.

Original sin is decent but it's only good when it focuses on Dexter. Debs is just annoying and Harry's flashbacks to his relationship with Dex's mother are unnecessary. Also its a bit silly the way way they have Dexter walking into his victim's homes (in daylight!) looking for proof of their guilt and he takes no measures to be discreet at all. The strength of this series will be it's new characters (Patrick Dempsey, Sarah Michelle Gellar) but I fear we will get bogged down with Dexter's family issues.

I was looking forward to Michael C Hall returning in the other spinoff show but if Harrison is going to be in it again, I'll reserve judgement. Still though, Dex on the loose in New York does sound entertaining. Hopefully James Remar will return as his conscience and there will be no more Jennifer Carpenter.

I find Deb very annoying. I do not find it believable that Harry would allow her to swear around him as much as she does. I also don't buy her being on the volleyball team. It seems out of character for the adult she will become.

Not warming to the flashback scenes of Harry and Laura Moser. Also didn't Laura Moser have Blonde hair in the original series? And she looks too old to be playing Dexters mom before Dexter was born.

I agree. What are they hoping to add by having the flashbacks to Harry and Laura? We know everything significant that happened between them from the original Dexter series (Harry has an affair with Laura; Dex has a brother Brian who becomes the ice truck killer; Laura gets killed with a chainsaw in a shipping container, which is witnessed by her sons etc). There's nothing new there and it's a waste of time having the flashbacks. Spend more time with Dex at work - more Patrick Dempsey, Sarah Michelle Gellar and killers we haven't heard of.

Debs is just tedious on this show. She was always a bit annoying but Jennifer Carpenter was a good actress. This new girl is not.

Christian Slater as Harry is a bit jarring too. They should have gotten someone who resembles James Remar. Even an unknown actor would have worked. Slater will always be a Jack Nicholson wannabe to me :)

The first 2 season of the original, Deb was a bit annoying. Once she made detective she came into her own.

As a teenager in Original Sin, she is far too confident. Her being on the volleyball team doesn't gel with her overall character. Nor does her taking coke, even if she did know it was artificial.

Good god this version of Deb is terrible. The show is half serial killer and half teen girl 90s movie. It's got great bits but way way too much deb. I'm on the latest episode and half of debs scenes her arse is hanging out of some tight shorts. Jesus it's very very tedious. I've always been a dexter fan but so much of this is needless, the throwback to Harry and Laura Moser, why?? Just why??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,628 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

Completely agree. If any showrunners are reading this, Deb in her gratuitously skimpy clothes is just that - gratuitous. Dexter (the show) has never been afraid of showing nudity when it was appropriate in the past, but it needs to be part of the story. Like Lilla's "pardon my tits" scene. In the context of the story, that made sense.

As for the flashbacks to Harry and Laura Moser, I assume they are setting up some major revelation, otherwise what is the point?

I'm very much enjoying it anyways, a throwback to the Dexter of old with characters we are familiar of. The likeness to the originals is excellent too, casting was really on point down to Masuka's irritating laugh!

It's fun to follow along and see the origins of Dexter as a serial killer, how he keeps making mistakes initially. I don't pass much heed on the Deb stuff it's grand, given the friend isn't present in the OG series I presume there's something big lined up there and the fact that Deb's current BF has a somewhat shady side means it'll all likely come to a head at some point.

In episode 7 Deb gets cut from the volleyball team and tells Harry "Maybe team sports arent for me".

I made a similar observation a couple of weeks ago.

Its great but half way through episode 8 now and my God Deb is annoying.

Just watched episode 1. Having a quick look at the episode description for remaining episodes and not liking how much Deb seems to feature.

I need to go back and check but I am almost certain Laura Moser had blonde hair.

    Edit: Fantastic line from Deb:

"Dad is so emotionally constipated, he hasn't given a sh*t in years".

Pleasantly surprised with this overall it was very good and the Irish lad playing Dexter did a great job. Casting overall was very good except for Deb.

That was a good season of TV, they got a lot done in ten episodes. It was just like the first few seasons of Dexter. Really enjoyed all of that.. and to have a legitimate thought out ending was great, hasn't been done since trinity.

Expected to see modern day Dex waking up at the end.

Yeah, overall it was good. Curious what happened to the new characters we met. I don't think they'll do another season considering they have the next Dexter season already lined up.
