Maybe read it? It's dated March 2023 and uses the word "seems". Because it's early data and only partial for the year. And almost two years old.

The second link is a mess. No way to properly evaluate it. And it's just for one month - October 2024

It's the top selling EV in 2025 🙂

    https://eu-evs.com/bestSellers/NO/Brands/Year/2025

(at least until Tesla deliveries ramp up in Q1)

Is there any reason why Hyundai Ioniq 5 sales very bad last year. When it was introduced, it was very good looking and got the car of the year award. Does it have any issues as of others. I think the fully white interior is not good fro long drives and long term.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,632 ✭✭✭✭josip

I think they were slower to drop their prices than the other manufacturers, but open to correction about that.

Maybe the ICCU issues also discouraged potential buyers.

    Still my favourite looking EV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,446 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

Also lots more competition in that segment from the likes of MG and BYD for example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,854 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

For some manufacturers theres been some well publicised issues perhaps the case here. Dunno.

Spent a few days in new york city last week. The only EV's I saw were Tesla and Toyota. And nearly every taxi/Uber and lots of private cars were Toyota. I'd say there's more bz4x in NYC than UK and Ireland.

All this talk of Toyota failing is total bs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭vimalandrew

My bz4x has reached 75,000kms. I went to service center last week and they said everything is perfect, not even a single issue.

It looks like bz4x will be like RAV4; We may be able to see in every corner of the road soon.

Did you changed the tyre's with whatever Toyota recommended, or bought your own?

Just did my 2nd service at 35k km (should've been at 30k km) and I'm 3mm away from having to change the front tyres.

Any decent recommendations other that the default ones that come with the Bz4x?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭vimalandrew

Now my front tyres are pirelli.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭Ev fan

I do note that from recent data sales of the bz4x are quite significant across quite a few countries. Having read variously about it, it does seem to be a reasonable EV. The best thing going for it is I think the "halo" effect with Toyota Having a strong reputation for good build quality and in particular car longevity. One of the major questions potential customers have on EVS is how long will this car last? - not a problem for Toyota perhaps given the proven reliability and long-term warranties through annual servicing. The Honda Prelude is selling well in the USA for similar reasons even though it's a rebadged Chevy. I think if Toyota put a bigger battery on the bz4x- say + 15kWh, gussied up the inside a bit more and dropped the price a bit - it could sell a lot more ........... particularly to more Conservative customers who like Toyota.

They still only have 1 EV offering in Europe, despite promising 10 BEV models by 2026

If they were any way serious about being a player in the EV space, they'd have more models out by now..

Surely an Electric Corolla/Avensis/saloon would sell like hotcakes… but where is it?

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV launched at Brussells car show. Looks like a Yaris Cross size full ev. Don't know when it launches for sale in Ireland.

So assuming deliveries start in 2025, thats 2, and they promised another 8 by 2025 (their website below still says this today)

In Europe, our BEV line-up will expand to ten models by 2025.

You should know that there are regulations. Europe is for Volkswagon and America is for Tesla. There could be secret regulations in place that Toyota is allowed to hold only 20 percent of the market. If demand grows Toyota will be asked to increase the price or not allowed to come up with new models. For example what happened to Toyota proace, wheel chair taxi. They revoked the model. All new taxi drivers want that car, but they just revoked it. And new taxi drivers have to buy Peugeot, citroen, ford, Vw. My friend who bought Ford Custom connect for taxi after 70000 km or something, automatic gear box ripped off and had to spent 8000 euros. Another friend who bought Peugeot, its engine ripped off and had to replace the entire engine. Toyota's bz3 and bz7 are unveiled in Chinese market. I dont think they will come to Europe any time soon, since nobody is buying VW ID5 and also many of the EU cars. I was in city center yesterday, and I could see 4 or 5, bz4x taxis going together.

The same happened in my home country India. We have Indian companies - Tata and Mahindra. Tata also now owns Jaguar and LandRover. People do not prefer their cars. Toyota came with a model, Innova in 2009 and the demand is so huge that now the price is 4 times from that time.

Sorry, but do you not realise how absolutely batsh1t mental that all sounds?

How come the Chinese aren't having the same problems?

Conspiracy Forums are ——→ that way!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,446 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

You can still get the Toyota Proace and have it converted for wheelchair accessibility. At least three companies offering it.

As for gearbox and engine trouble. Seriously? Taxi drivers thrashing cars to death is not new. It's why nobody will buy a second hand taxi.

Cars increasing in price over 16 years? That's incredible, everyone knows inflation doesn't exist. Lol.

As for your anti-Toyota conspiracy theory, Toyota have been a best seller in Ireland for decades. Why didn't somebody stop them? 🤣

You're the same guy who thought the sales figures for Hyundai Tucsons were made up because you didn't see enough of them on the road.

Sorry, Proace is available, but its price is 81K, probably the reason why nobody buys it.

    EV sales in Norway- January

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,632 ✭✭✭✭josip

    This thread never disappoints.

Robbie explains the history and current status of the Norwegian EV market very well.

Grandons in Cork have 3 x 2025’s for €37,995 straight sale, but when i called the silver one had already been sold. Two in white remain.

Also, dealer mentioned a mild refresh was coming in March/April, minor changes tbc, and no change in battery size.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,340 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    Attractive price indeed.

BZ4X has improved since launch and may start to be of interest to private buyers at that price finally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭Ev fan

The bz4x is selling well in Europe- in top 6 spot for brand/model for January. I wonder will this get Toyota HQ to sit up and notice and maybe focus some of their vast resources into developing and launching a number of number of genuinely good EVs- up to now it seems that Top management have shown a lack interest/motivation/focus (take your pick) in EV adoption.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,677 ✭✭✭✭elperello

It seems to be selling well almost despite some dealers having no interest.

Toyota management appear to be missing an open goal by not giving the car a bigger battery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭yermanthere

Things moved fast in ev-world. Look at quality changes in new byd atto2. Or battery sizes in Kia and Skoda.

Bz needs cabin improvement ( maybe some colour?), and definitely the option of a 80kwh or bigger battery.

The tech is good. And it's comfortable, far better than Tesla . But not competitive at listing price. Tbh 38k is where it should be, maybe 41 with 0% finance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,854 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

Kinda hard to argue it's not competitive when it's selling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭yermanthere

Everything sells. Doesn't mean they are the best of their peers. I have a bz. Like I said, it's comfortable and reliable. The led headlights are great, the cruise and lane keep is really good, as is safety package. But it's overpriced in current market, and really short on interior tech and lux for its price.

I never said it's a bad car, just that it needs to improve, quickly. And it looks like Toyota isn't seeing that. The Chinese brands are making small and large changes to models in a 18 month timeframe. Software updates, colours, even all-new models. Even VW managed to receive feedback and update i.d. range only 3 years after launch.

Look at new urban cruiser. EV, Collab with Suzuki. Much nicer design interior than BZ. Why can't they roll out an update?

VHS Vs Betamax. It's selling enough numbers that the not competitive argument isn't valid. Toyota has established better credibility with buyers than other brands. It's paying off for them. They are still doing recalls for faults where other brands are weaseling out of flaky door handles.

The ID range has been riddled with bugs and build quality issues since launch. All the traditional manufacturers are struggling with profitability. They are being built to a price point. It's no excuse for the profiteering and poor warranties etc. But it is what's driving it.

Its been suggested the Chinese manufacturers are being subsidised 3x or 4x times more than other manufacturers. Which may have future repercussions.

The BX maybe compromised but perhaps it's a better package considering warranty and customer support. Also considering an unstable market.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭vimalandrew

One guy told me that his friend had a tesla and had to replace battery for 20,000 euros. Probably after warranty period of 160,000km. he said that service is very bad. Probably everything is online and has to wait for ages for the maintenance. Also he said that tesla features are unreliable. One by one things will break including auto pilot.

When I check Internet, there is not an even single negative review on tesla, under youtube. Under videos, there is not even a single negative comment. Is it that some people working over Internet deliberately removing the comments and videos.

But all the videos on bz4x are negative. But it is now the biggest selling EV in Norway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,458 ✭✭✭MarkN

You must be on some different version of the internet so. There’s no negative commentary on Tesla!?

I’d hazard a guess that Toyota have a fair idea of how to run their own company and when will be the time to switch to a more wide ranging EV fleet. Selling EVs to Europe is not really where Toyota’s core business model is either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,446 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

He has a history of unsupported allegations of some sort of conspiracy against the BZ4X. He questioned the sales figures here for the Tucson based on nothing other than not seeing enough of them on the road.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,340 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

lol. It's fairy dwelling nonsense, you should know that by now 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,916 ✭✭✭CoBo55

The reason I keep following this thread ☺️☺️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 422 ✭✭JohnySwan

All three that were for sale for 38k now gone. Great deal, you'd be sick if you paid nearly 55k a couple of years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,816 ✭✭✭sk8board

bz numbers have always been low enough here:

    2022: 120

    2023: 650

    2024: 400

    2025: 115

January is off to a good start, but price drops didn’t help any of the big volume sellers here (VW, Tesla etc), they all still fell in 2024 v 2023

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭vimalandrew

    I just analysed RAV4 sales.

In January last month alone RAV4 sold 925 units. In 2024 whole year it sold only 3536 units.

    2025 January - 925

    2024 -3536

    2023 -2052

    2022 -2908

    2021 -2564

    2020 -1445

    2019 -1733

    2018 - 1602

One reason could be new model may get launched in the coming months for RAV4. They are trying to clear the waiting lists.

People are getting to know what is happening in Norway. Bz4x is the best selling car there. With one million kms battery warranty, which other car offers that much. My first three services were free. Fourth service, it was 260 euros; I went to my dealer in south Dublin. For my fifth service, I went to the most famous dealer in North Dublin, it costs me just 120 euros.

I recently noticed a review on Tesla saying that autopilot suddenly breaks in motorway during night time. Imagine how much danger it is when another car is behind at 100km/h.

The Canadians are certainly not won over.

    https://www.guideautoweb.com/en/articles/71277/2023-toyota-bz4x-disappointing-and-frustrating/

Hanging your hat on one country is dangerous, putting all your eggs in one basket.

Constantly comparing it to one rival is dangerous too, there are others, better., especially where there are so many fault stories on the Toyota out there too.

What does the EV Health Check entail or cost at say year 4 onwards ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,340 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

The Toyota warranty could say 10 million kilometres for all it's worth. It's an unrealistic figure, but one that does sound good as a headline for sure.

10 years is 2 years more than everyone else (some manufacturers with no strings attached). While that's a bonus, it's only a small one in reality as the servicing requirements will become annoying.

A competitive price is what's going to get Toyota customers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,126 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

So the million km warranty can only ever apply once the car is less than 10 years old, but from year 5 onwards, you can only add 15,000km per year to keep the warranty active? or is it 15,000km per health check?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,705 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

The health check / Service requirement is every 15k from new.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,446 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

It says on the panel above that it's in the 4th year and before 100k kms. Assume it's every year or 15k after that?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,705 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Its every 15k since new on the 2 in my family. They've both had 2 services now (taxis) and are at 40k km give or take each.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,450 ✭✭✭joe1303l

You might be a little unfair here. Lots of EV’s from VW etc. are coming close to or beyond HV battery warranty after even 3-5 years. The 8 years isn’t really attainable if you cover any sort of high annual mileage as you’ll hit the 160K Km’s limit first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,126 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

How much is a service check? as to get to 1,000,000 in 10 years, it would take 66 checks, or 6.6 per year, or a check every 2 months, just to keep it in warranty….

yeah, as a poster above said, it might as well been a billion km warranty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭vimalandrew

One reason for high bz4x sales in Norway may be due to the door handles. The below review says that Tesla is less effective in cold weather.

    At time 3:55

I think all the EVs except bz4x have that particular 'modern' door handles.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,705 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

You seem to hold the Tesla in high esteem against the Toyota, why?

Freezing weather will effect all cars, I couldn't get into the BMW on some mornings without pouring luke warm water on the handles and particularly the rubber seals, this is where many cars fail, the seal stick in icy conditions, the handles were irrelevant.
