True but there is the odd exception like Revenue are currently running an open HEO competition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 LG072017

    got this response yesterday

At present for Higher Executive Officer 2024,we have called candidates up to and including Order Of Merit 770 for stage 2 (Shortlisting) from initial Dublin batch.

Candidates will be brought forward to each stage by order of merit per location.

Successful candidates at stage 2 receive a new OOM and it is based on this that they are taken to stage 3 consisting of a presentation and interview held via Zoom, within their batch.

Unfortunately, we cannot give candidates a timeframe for if and when they may be called to the next stage of the competition as we are vacancy led.

The Higher Executive Officer (Nationwide) 2024 panel will remain open until November 2025 as per circular.

Anyone an idea of how many are in batch 2 or were in batch 1 which I assume will be similar?

Yes, but the union got involved in this one. I believe specialist roles can be advertised as open competitions but other than that, the HEO grade is internal promotion. Until I read the Revenue/Union dispute I didn't realise this myself and wondered why PAS didn't run open comps.

There's both internal and interdepartmental, there's occasionally a few external ones for specialist roles like IT, communications or HR, but generally it's a grade reserved for existing civil servants.

@Abbotsford5 I enquired 2 weeks ago and was told they had shortlisted up to oom 8 for Limerick.

Quick question for ye. I'm 2.5 years in the Civil Service at EO grade. An internal competition is being held for promotion to HEO so I'm applying for it. I worked in the private sector for 14 years prior to joining the Civil service. I'm gonna use an example from my time in the private sector for one of the 6 competencies as its a better example. I had heard they won't consider previous employment if you were over 3 years gone from that employer. Would it be frowned upon to refer to my previous employment in this case. Would they prefer all examples are drawn from your civil service time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 481 ✭✭eroc79

It will probably depend on how old your example. ideally your examples will be from your most recent role but if your best example is from a previous role then include that. If your word count allows, include something more recent and then provide your better example or vice versa. If it's straight to interview and you are asked about it, again ensure you have a current example ready in case they are insistent on that it needs to be recent. Others might have a different opinion but this is what I would do.

what’s the highest OOM on here that has been offered a position?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭HDonal

They've shortlisted and interviewed up to number 8 in Kerry as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭natc

I’m in Dublin batch 2.1 (I think) and received my invitation to stage 3 interview today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭aislingm999

Just been called for interview. Would be very grateful if anyone who has done their interview would pm me some of the questions they were asked in their interview aswel as presentation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭Aabbccdd

how are people getting on with the report? I haven’t got a clue of what’s being asked or what it should look like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭Lynnington3

there was a really good, helpful post a couple pages back about this.
Basically they want an introduction , a Why and a How.
I would recommend focusing in on a very specific area that you feel would support the Gov in delivering on the Renewal Strategy. Otherwise it’s far too much to fit into a 3 page report.
zero in on one of the pillars and come up with an idea , you are allowed to be a bit creative , it doesn’t have to be something that’s in place already, as long as you can justify why you think it’s important and how you would choose to implement it.
I found writing and presenting the report the easiest part of the whole process.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭Aabbccdd

thank you for this! Do they just let you off to talk for the 5 minutes presentation and do they interrogate you after or try make you stumble?

they don’t interrupt. It’s a timed 5 minute presentation. Just try to summarise your report , they will let you know with a little gesture when you’ve only a minute left. They stick rigidly to the 5 mins.

Afterwards only one panel member asks you questions on it , deffo not trying to trip you up. Questions were just like how did you conduct your research , what sources did you use , what did you find most difficult about writing the report , if you’ve mentioned budgets or anything they might ask how it would be costed, that kind of thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭Aabbccdd

thanks so much! Do they help you in the interview as in ask you something again if you aren’t hitting the right thing and is it generally a comfortable experience and not absolutely rattling?😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭Ahem123

They help you along and gently redirect you to give you the best opportunity to reply. Remember they want you to score and they except that people get nervous. I thought the EO interview was tougher but maybe that was just me. I got through even though I didn't perform to my best level. Three weeks now as a HEO and loving it. I emailed both PAS and local HR to stay in my department (Dublin) and got it. The introduction of the capability framework is a game changer for those lacking management experience. Good luck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭Lynnington3

agree with all the above . They genuinely aren’t out to catch you out or anything , they want to give you marks.

Listen carefully to all the questions and try and word your answers to hit the key points under the capabilities.
It is different to the competency structure but easier I would say, not harder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭aislingm999

Would anyone who has done their interview be able to advise what sort of questions they were asked for the interview itself ? Very nervous and stressed about what to expect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 Gabbytr

Hi Nat, could you please tell me your oom before and after the shortlisting? Thank you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭Gillouise

Hi all I'm currently in the final stages of the report writing (due tomorrow at 9am!!). Can anyone recommend a reliable plagiarism/ AI tool to ensure it's ok. I've ran it through 2 different tools and getting wildly different results for AI/ originality which is worrying. If anyone knows what software PAS use that would be even better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,860 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Do you not know yourself if you plagiarised or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭Gillouise

Of course I do but PAS will run my writing through software to detect AI. One tool I've used has said 20% of my writing is unoriginal and another has given much higher results. I'm obviously pulling pieces (not directly quoting) from various open source docs so just want to put my mind at ease that it's ok for PAS.

Paraphrasing still needs to be cited. Once you cite and reference the source you will be fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,027 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Are you quoting direct paragraphs or something? You should write something yourself based on the reference you are citing as the basis for it

All those AI checking tools check different things - types of word grouping, the tone of the sentence - they will all give different results and unless you are hitting 0% chance of AI you are losing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭Gillouise

No it seemed to be an issue with the structure of my sentences. I've never had that issue before and have used similar software for college assignments.

Can I ask for anyone who has done the interviews, did you go in with 8 ready to go answers for each sub capability or did you have 4 good answers which covered both sides of the capabilities?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭natc

Hi, I'm assuming you were asking me.

My original OOM was 330s and after shortlisting I was early 40s in the batch I was put in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 mameeh

They have called up to batch 2 OOM 43 for stage 3 Dublin

Just asked for an update from Public Jobs to see if there was any new movement, response as follows - Thank you for your candidate ID.

At present for the Higher Executive Officer 2024, we have called forward candidates up to and including the order of merit 770 for stage 2 Dublin.

Candidates will be brought forward to each stage by order of merit per location as vacancies arise.

Unfortunately, as we are vacancy led the numbers called forward in each batch will vary from time to time.

Should we reach your order of merit we will be in touch via your publicjobs message board, so I recommend that you check this regularly.

If you have any further questions , please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Seems to have stalled here for a bit. I guess until more interviews are conducted 🤷‍♀️

Do they give you an interview brief like they do for the presentation? How many minutes on each competency etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Philipberry

Anyone called for interview for Clare or Limerick.

Will there be an Internal HEO in Revenue within coming months?? Last one was 2023.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 VANS_95

There is currently an internal HEO Revenue competition on going. Batch 1 interviews commenced in January.

There's a general Revenue HEO competition starting soon (according to Forsa). The ongoing competition is for the tax specialist.

How long after interview did people get their results?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭Lynnington3

had my interview on a Friday , I heard back the following Wednesday so wasn’t long!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭natc

Had my interview today. Dublin Batch 2. The interview itself was lovely, the board were great and everything was clearly explained at each stage. The new capability framework is so much better for interviews. I found the questions far more targeted to specific skills etc.

The hardest part for me was the Q&A after the presentation. Didn’t have great answers prepared for some of them as I never even thought of those questions!!

Interviews are all week I think so might be hear later next week maybe.

Realistically I think my presentation let me down as I feel the interview went well but it’s a step in the right direction and I’ll learn from it.

Best of luck to everyone else this week!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭aislingm999

Do you mind me asking what sort of questions they asked you on your presentation? I havent really prepared answers for questions on this either.
