Tuesday, 4 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Mild and dry to Thursday, then some rain each day to about Sunday morning before gradually turning dry again for several days.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring some intervals of hazy sunshine, with more cloud near Atlantic coasts and possibly coming into south coast at low levels. A few outbreaks of light rain will be possible in those areas only. Highs 11 to 13 C.
TONIGHT will be partly cloudy and calm with lows near 4 C.
WEDNESDAY will be partly cloudy to overcast, rather breezy (southwest 40 to 60 km/hr) and there may be low cloud in some southern coastal areas again. Highs 12 to 15 C.
THURSDAY increasing cloud, rain at times by afternoon west and evening east. Lows near 7 C and highs near 13 C.
FRIDAY mostly cloudy, some outbreaks of rain becoming rather heavy in central counties by evening and overnight. Lows near 7 C and highs near 13 C.
SATURDAY the heavier rain will move north into Connacht and Ulster, leaving the south and later central counties in partly cloudy to overcast conditions, mild, lows near 8 C and highs 12 to 15 C.
SUNDAY could see more sunny breaks and quite mild in a southeast breeze, lows near 7 C and highs 13 to 16 C.
It will turn a bit cooler for the following week as some mixing in of colder air from central Europe can be expected but there could be enough sunshine at times to give a relatively mild feel despite highs falling back to near 9 or 10 C. Another warmer spell will follow.

My local weather on Monday was mostly sunny and it turned just slightly colder due to a low pressure area organizing off to our east and pulling in light northerly winds, our high was around 7 C.

Wednesday, 5 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Rather cloudy, some light rain at times starting late today in south and west, spreading gradually to other regions through tomorrow, and becoming heavier on Friday. Then a reverse trend of rain becoming more showery and ending altogether for several days starting around Sunday. Turning colder in stages after several more days of mild weather.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be mostly cloudy with best chances of any bright intervals in the southeast away from the coast. Drizzle or light rain may spread into a few coastal areas late in the day. Breezy at times, southwest 40-60 km/hr, and highs 11 to 14 C.
TONIGHT mostly cloudy, sporadic light rain in west, lows near 7 C.
THURSDAY increasing cloud east, overcast west, light rain or showers at times in western counties mainly, highs 11 to 14 C.
FRIDAY rain becoming heavier at times and spreading to most other regions, concentrated later in the day over midlands and south Connacht, lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.
SATURDAY variable cloud, showers more confined to northwest by afternoon, lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.
SUNDAY partly cloudy with some good sunny spells developing, easterly breezes will make it cooler in east coast districts but quite warm central to western counties, lows near 7 C and highs near 12 C in the east to 15 C west.
This mild, dry regime will slowly transition to a colder but still generally dry pattern as high pressure builds over northern Britain and pushes winds around to an east-northeast direction. Expect most of next week to be a little chilly with highs 7 to 9 C and slight frosts returning in some inland areas.

My local weather on Tuesday was overcast and colder with sleet turning to wet snow during the evening, slight coatings have developed as temperatures only around 2-3 C all day have dropped to zero C now. A large storm system has formed over the plains states and is moving to northern Ontario, bringing rain north and east, and snow to near blizzard conditions on its northwest flank.

Thursday, 6 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Rather cloudy, some light rain at times in south and west, spreading gradually to other regions through tonight, and becoming heavier on Friday. Then a reverse trend of rain becoming more showery and ending altogether for several days starting around Sunday. Turning colder in stages after several more days of mild weather.

    FORECASTS

TODAY increasing cloud east, overcast west, light rain or showers at times in western counties mainly, highs 11 to 14 C.
TONIGHT showery rain spreading gradually further east and north, mild, lows near 7 C.
FRIDAY rain becoming heavier at times and spreading to most other regions, concentrated later in the day over midlands and south Connacht, and highs near 13 C.
MONDAY will be similar with highest temperatures near 14 C in parts of Connacht and west Ulster, also west Munster. The northeast breezes will pick up in speed and bring cooler air further into central counties, with skies varying from sunny to partly cloudy and occasionally overcast.
This mild, dry regime will slowly transition to a colder but still generally dry pattern as high pressure builds over northern Britain and pushes winds around to an east-northeast direction. Expect most of next week after Monday to be a little chilly with highs only 7 to 9 C and slight frosts returning in some inland areas. This cool dry regime could slowly transition to a relatively warm and dry interval although with a large range between cool nights and warm days.

My local weather on Wednesday was cloudy with a few sunny breaks, and rather chilly, a few spits of snow or sleet were blowing around in a moderate westerly breeze, highs near 3 C.

Friday, 7 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Showery and quite mild for next two days, then dry and continued mild Sunday and to a lesser extent Monday, after which a colder but still largely dry regime will follow as winds become northeasterly.
    FORECASTS
TODAY will bring a few outbreaks of light rain and also some brighter intervals. Mild with highs 12 to 14 C.
TONIGHT rain will become somewhat heavier as it moves north, lows 7 to 9 C.
SATURDAY will see most of the rain increasingly confined to north and west before ending completely, highs 13 to 15 C.
SUNDAY will feature sunny intervals, highs near 12 C in eastern counties and 16 C in central to western counties, due to a slight cooling effect of easterly breezes.
MONDAY will continue similar except a degree or two colder as the first influence of coming trend to colder northeast winds is felt. Highs near 10 C in east to 14 C west.
TUESDAY to FRIDAY of next week will be cooler days with isolated wintry showers in parts of Ulster and possibly further south, but largely dry with some sunshine each day. Expect lows -3 to +1 C, widespread frosts, and highs 6 to 9 C.
A more unsettled interval with some rain at times will follow, and temperatures will recover a little to near 10 C.
My local weather on Thursday was sunny with a high near 7 C.

Saturday, 8 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Just a little more rain today before several dry days with a peak in temperatures Sunday, followed by a gradual cooling trend, most of the week will then be quite cool but with some sun and generally dry.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring cloudy skies with a few intervals of sunshine possible by afternoon. Rain will move through Munster and the midlands towards Connacht, and it will likely be more showery elsewhere. Highs 12 to 14 C in moderate southeast breezes.
TONIGHT gradual clearing, mild, lows 6 to 9 C.
SUNDAY sunny with cloudy intervals, mild, especially further west. Highs near 12 C in Leinster to 14 C midlands and 16 C western counties. Moderate easterly breezes will be the cause of the temperature gradient from a cool east coast to warm western inland regions.
MONDAY will be partly cloudy and a little cooler but with the same temperature gradient east to west, highs in Leinster 8-11 C, midlands 10-13 C and west, also south 12-15 C. Parts of Ulster could see a faster temperature drop and one or two showers.
TUESDAY to FRIDAY will be a cool, generally dry interval with highs of 6 to 9 C, overnight lows -3 to +1 C and widespread inland frosts returning. There could be isolated and rather sleety showers close to northern coasts, and moderate east to northeast winds of about 40 to 60 km/hr at times.
The week following could see a slight moderation in temperatures although it may stay fairly cold at night. It looks generally dry for quite a while with an eventual return to unsettled weather in about ten days' time.

My local weather on Friday was sunny with a few cloudy intervals and highs near 7 C.

Sunday, 9 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... mild and dry today and Monday in most regions then turning colder from the northeast, largely dry but a few mixed wintry showers possible mid-week. Probably turning warmer again in about a week to ten days.

    FORECASTS
TODAY will be sunny with a few cloudy intervals and mild, highs near 12 C east to 16 C west. Moderate easterly breezes will cool the east coast and a few kms inland.
TONIGHT will be mostly clear with a few clouds, lows 5 to 8 C.
MONDAY will still be quite mild for most, as colder air begins to seep into Ulster and then the midlands and Leinster later in the day. Highs near 11 C in east, 14 C west, but only 8 to 10 C in Ulster.
TUESDAY partly cloudy to sunny, isolated wintry showers in northeast, colder. Lows 1 to 3 C, highs 7 to 10 C.
WEDNESDAY rather cold with scattered wintry showers, more frequent near hills and in north, east. Lows -3 to +1 C and highs 6 to 9 C.
THURSDAY on through next weekend this cool, dry regime will persist with highs 6 to 10 C and lows -3 to +2 C.
The following week will probably warm up gradually as more of a southeasterly flow replaces the cold northeast wind. It could be back into the mid-teens by middle to end of that week.

My local weather on Saturday was rather cloudy but dry, any breeze is picking up all the leftover winter road grit and blowing that around like a mini-sandstorm at times. The high was near 7 C and the slow melt continues with lots of snow left to melt in the wooded areas.

Monday, 10 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Today will see a gradual transition towards cooler weather that will dominate the forecast for a little over a week starting tomorrow. It will be fairly dry throughout with some scattered showers (some wintry) around Wednesday and again on Friday as weak disturbances pass from the northeast. A cool, dry weekend (15-16th) will be followed by a gradual warming trend and occasional rain as temperatures return to levels similar to what was recorded on the past weekend. It may take several days of gradual warming to get to 15-17 C again.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy to sunny, with a brisk east wind at times, cooler than yesterday but still a little warmer than average at 12 C east to 15 C west and south. Parts of Ulster could be cloudier and cool down faster to around 10 C.
TONIGHT clear with a few clouds, brisk east winds adding a chill to lows of 1 to 4 C.
TUESDAY partly cloudy to sunny, isolated wintry showers mostly near coasts and higher terrain in north, highs 6 to 10 C. Winds northeast 40 to 60 km/hr.
WEDNESDAY somewhat cloudier with more widespread showers, one or two becoming wintry especially over inland north. Lows -2 to +2 C and highs 6 to 9 C.
THURSDAY will be back to partly cloudy to sunny skies and more isolated showers, lows -4 to +2 C and highs 6 to 10 C.
FRIDAY another pulse of moisture travelling southward will bring more widespread although generally light showers, and a chilly temperature range of lows near -2 to highs near +7 C.
WEEKEND (15-16 Mar) will see partly cloudy to sunny skies, and less breezy as high pressure crests, lows -4 to +2 C and highs 7 to 11 C.
The week of 17 to 21 March will see a gradual rise in temperatures back towards mid-teens and there will be fairly frequent cloud and rain although generally no more than average amounts are expected. Highs will edge up daily to reach about 15 C by later in the interval.

My local weather on Sunday remained cloudy, cool and dry with dusty conditions when breezes picked up, highs near 5 C. We are expecting a rather drab week of cloud and occasional sleety rain or wet snow as we remain under a broad upper level trough.

TODAY will be partly cloudy to sunny with isolated showers, more frequent near east and north coasts. Colder with a brisk east to northeast wind 40 to 60 km/hr, highs 6 to 9 C.
TONIGHT clear intervals in south and west, scattered frost, lows -3 to +2 C. Mostly cloudy in east and north, chilly with a few wintry showers, lows -1 to +3 C.
WEDNESDAY partly cloudy, cold, winds northeast to north, 40 to 60 km/hr, scattered wintry showers, highs 5 to 8 C.
THURSDAY and FRIDAY will continue breezy and cool with a few wintry showers, lows -4 to +1 C and highs 6 to 10 C.
WEEKEND still rather cool but less breezy as high pressure crests over Ireland. Sunny intervals both days, frosts widespread inland. Lows -4 to +1 C and highs 7 to 11 C.

Wednesday, 12 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Generally quite cool and dry for several more days, although western counties could see a few showers on Friday. A more widespread rainfall could begin around a week from now as the blocking high shifts a bit further north and allows low pressure from the Atlantic to approach. Temperatures may recover slightly next week. A more significant warming trend could follow.
    FORECASTS
TODAY will be partly cloudy with a few brief passing showers, some wintry on higher terrain. Cold with a brisk north to northeast wind at times. Highs 6 to 9 C.
TONIGHT clear intervals, frosty. Lows -4 to +1 C.
THURSDAY sunny with cloudy intervals, cool. Highs 6 to 10 C.
FRIDAY frequent showers in some western counties, more isolated further east, as winds swirl around due to low pressure tracking south across Ireland. As winds return to an easterly direction later in the day, gradual clearing from the north and east will follow. Lows around -2 C and highs near 7 C.
WEEKEND into MONDAY 17th will be sunny with some cloud at times especially near south coast, chilly, lows -3 to +2 C and highs 7 to 11 C.
By TUESDAY it will begin to cloud over gradually as east-southeast winds increase to 50-70 km/hr. Highs near 10 C.
Rain is likely at times mid-week with temperatures near 12 C.
A slow moderating trend to warmer temperatures can be expected to follow once this mid-week disturbance weakens and the flow becomes more southwesterly.
My local weather on Tuesday was overcast and cold with a thin covering of snow beginning after lunch time, temperatures stuck in a range of 1 to 2 C. Our faint signs of spring have gone on pause for the time being.

TONIGHT increasing cloud, wintry showers developing across northern counties. Lows -3 to +2 C.
FRIDAY the showers, still wintry near higher terrain, will drift further south followed by partial clearing by afternoon. Highs 7 to 10 C.
SATURDAY will be sunny with cloudy intervals, winds generally light. Lows -4 to +1 C and highs 7 to 11 C.
    SUNDAY partly cloudy, lows -3 to +2 C, highs 7 to 11 C.
MONDAY 17th partly cloudy to overcast, a few passing showers mainly near south coast and into Munster, lows -2 to +2 C and highs 7 to 11 C.
TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY, little change but perhaps a degree or two milder each day.
After about THURSDAY of next week, a more mobile Atlantic-driven weather regime will return and temperatures will be closer to average or a little above normal at times.

My local weather on Wednesday was overcast with wet snow or drizzle and temperatures steady 1 to 3 C.

Note: due to travel plans I will be taking Friday off and returning with a forecast on Saturday morning.

TODAY will be sunny with some afternoon cloudy intervals, and isolated light showers in a few locations (most places will remain dry). The morning frosts will gradually clear as afternoon highs reach 7 to 10 C under strong March sunshine.
TONIGHT clear intervals, a return of frost in some central counties, lows -2 to +2 C.
SUNDAY partly cloudy to overcast, light southeast breezes, isolated showers mainly near southwest coast. Highs 7 to 11 C.
MONDAY (17th) will be partly cloudy to overcast with a few outbreaks of light rain in Munster and isolated showers elsewhere. Lows near zero C and highs near 10 C.
TUESDAY will bring a more organized but light rainfall across parts of Munster, variable cloud and only isolated showers elsewhere, lows near 3 C and highs near 12 C.
WEDNESDAY cloudy with afternoon sunny breaks, rain pushing off to west from Atlantic coastal counties, lows near 4 C and highs near 14 C.
THURSDAY spells of warm spring sunshine, lows near 7 C and highs near 17 C.
FRIDAY increasing cloud, becoming windy and some rain likely especially near south coast in an east-southeast flow. Lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.
A low will spin around near Ireland through next weekend and winds may become northerly again for a day or two, with that cooler interval likely to be followed by a warming trend late in the month.

My local weather for the past two days has been cold with outbreaks of snow, and highs only around 3 to 5 C.

TODAY will be cloudy with a few sunny breaks, only a few isolated showers and most places staying dry. Highs 8 to 10 C.
TONIGHT partly cloudy, lows near 3 C.
MONDAY 17th will be cloudy with a few breaks, and scattered outbreaks of light rain mostly in the southwest. Moderate southeast winds will make it feel chilly especially in Leinster and Ulster. Highs 7 to 10 C, coolest in north Leinster and east Ulster.
TUESDAY will be cloudy with some light rain at times, more persistent in Munster. Lows near 5 C and highs near 11 C.
WEDNESDAY will become partly cloudy and warmer except in a few coastal areas of the south and east. Lows near 5 C and highs near 13 C.
THURSDAY partly cloudy and warm, lows 6 to 9 C and highs 15 to 17 C.
FRIDAY cloudy with a few outbreaks of rain in southeast winds 40 to 60 km/hr. Lows near 9 C and highs near 14 C.
WEEKEND of 22nd-23rd will bring variable skies, a few showers more persistent in south and west, and near normal temperatures, lows near 7 C and highs near 12 C.
The following week could see a slight drop in temperatures around Tuesday but it won't be a significant difference and another warming trend will likely follow.

My local weather featured a return to winter as 10-15 cm of snow fell during the morning and temperatures dropped back below freezing. Clear tonight and I can see the nearly full moon high in the southeast. Local bears did not get the memo and a few have come out of hibernation anyway, haven't seen any in our part of town yet.

Monday, 17 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Dry and cool to start the week, warmer by mid-week and becoming showery later in the week with temperatures still a bit above average.

    FORECASTS
TODAY will be cloudy with a few breaks, and scattered outbreaks of light rain mostly near the southwest coast. Many places will remain dry. Moderate southeast winds 30-50 km/hr will make it feel chilly especially in Leinster and Ulster. Highs 7 to 10 C, coolest in north Leinster and east Ulster.
TONIGHT will be cloudy with a few breaks, lows near 5 C. There could be occasional drizzle in Munster.
TUESDAY will be cloudy with some light rain at times, more persistent in Munster. Lows near 5 C and highs near 11 C.
WEDNESDAY will become partly cloudy and warmer except in a few coastal areas of the south and east. Lows 2 to 5 C and highs 12 to 15 C.
THURSDAY partly cloudy and warm, lows 6 to 9 C and highs 15 to 17 C.
FRIDAY cloudy with a few outbreaks of rain, mostly over southern counties, in southeast winds 40 to 60 km/hr. Lows near 9 C and highs near 14 C.
WEEKEND of 22nd-23rd will bring variable skies, a few showers more persistent in south and west, and near normal temperatures, lows near 7 C and highs near 12 C.
The following week will likely stay close to seasonal averages and highs will generally be 12 to 15 C. There may be one interval of moderate rainfall but by then the month will be running at only around 20% of normal rainfall and it could end up no higher than 40% even after that one event.

My local weather added some more snow in the early part of the day and it slowly cleared during the afternoon, staying quite cold at around +2 C.

WEDNESDAY will become partly cloudy and warmer except in a few coastal areas of the south and east, with highs 12 to 15 C.
THURSDAY partly cloudy and warm, lows 6 to 9 C and highs 15 to 17 C.
FRIDAY cloudy with a few outbreaks of rain, heavy at times over southern counties, in southeast winds 40 to 60 km/hr. Lows near 9 C and highs near 14 C.

SUNDAY mostly cloudy, a few showers, lows near 8 C and highs 11 to 13 C.
NEXT WEEK will be relatively bland with temperatures near or slightly above normal values.

My local weather on Monday was partly cloudy to overcast with a few snow pellet showers, not leaving any new accumulations, as temperatures near 3 C tended to melt any that tried to stick; however, we now have a secondary seasonal snow depth peak of about 55 cm, just a little lower than we had in mid-February. Eastern regions of North America are looking forward to some near record warmth over coming days, could see 25-28 C in parts of the central then eastern U.S.

THURSDAY will bring more hazy sunshine and quite warm temperatures between 14 and 17 C.
FRIDAY increasing cloud followed by outbreaks of showery light rain, moderate southeast winds, lows near 9 C and highs 12 to 14 C.
SATURDAY outbreaks of rain, foggy at times, lows near 10 C and highs near 14 C.
SUNDAY clearing after some morning drizzle in east, a bit cooler in northwest breezes 40 to 60 km/hr. Lows near 8 C and highs 11 to 13 C.
MONDAY early morning rain followed by partial clearing, lows near 10 C and highs near 13 C.
TUESDAY variable cloud, generally dry, lows near 7 C and highs near 14 C.
The rest of next week will become a little more cloudy and unsettled at times as a faster westerly flow develops bringing in several more organized Atlantic lows before end of month; another brief warm spell on southeast winds is indicated for early April.

My local weather on Tuesday was sunny with a high near 4 C, leading to some melting of recent additional snow. St Louis Missouri had a record high of 29 C and many other places in the central U.S. were just below daily record values 25 to 32 C. This warmth is spreading to the east coast for today and the first part of Thursday, after which a gradual shift to much cooler weather is likely in those regions.

TONIGHT occasional rain, drizzle and fog, lows near 8 C.

SATURDAY rain will continue, heavy at times in western counties, more showery and drizzly further east. Highs 10 to 15 C, mildest in east, as northerly breezes develop near Atlantic coast.

SUNDAY clearing slowly from west to east, sunny intervals more prolonged in west, lows near 6 C and highs near 12 C.

MONDAY sunny intervals, a few showers in Connacht and west Ulster by evening. Lows near 3 C and highs near 12 C.

TODAY will be cloudy with afternoon sunny breaks in eastern counties, with a cool northerly breeze dying out there, highs 10 to 12 C. Sunny most of the day further west with highs 12 to 14 C.

TONIGHT clear intervals, cold, lows -1 to +2 C.

MONDAY to WEDNESDAY relatively dry with frequent daytime sunny breaks, isolated showers mostly in north. Lows -2 to +2 C and highs 11 to 13 C.

THURSDAY to SATURDAY more frequent outbreaks of rain, mild. Lows 4 to 7 C and highs 12 to 15 C.

From SUNDAY (30th) into early April, warm and dry with highs 13 to 17 C.

My weather on Saturday at the coast was cloudy with a few brighter intervals and brief showers, but generally dry, cool with a high near 8 C. Expecting heavy rain here on Sunday and a warmer trend next week.

Will update briefly Monday morning before heading back to home base during the day.

Monday, 24 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland ... mostly mild and dry to late Wednesday, highs generally 12 to 14 C, then outbreaks of rain, staying mild later in the week and back to warm and dry for parts of the weekend (could be closer to 15 or 16 C) ... not a lot of change in this pleasant pattern expected into first week of April either. ... my local weather at the coast (Vancouver BC) was very wet almost all day, 50-75 mm rainfalls reported all around the region. It has begun to clear up now with temperatures rising slowly after being near 8 C through all of the rain. Luckily we had no outdoor plans anyway, and our brief visit ends today as (after overnight in our later time zone) we head home on Monday afternoon and evening. ... could be a bit late with Tuesday morning forecast, depending on road conditions we may encounter. Freezing level going way up here (to 1800m) so a lot of alpine snow melt is expected next 2-3 days.

Tuesday, 25 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Mild and dry to Thursday, showers at times late in the week, back to mild and dry conditions by weekend.

    FORECASTS
TODAY will be cloudy to start, turning brighter by mid-day and afternoon, mild, highs 12 to 15 C.
TONIGHT variable cloud, lows 3 to 6 C.
WEDNESDAY increasing cloud, mild. Rain in some western and northern counties by late afternoon and evening; highs 12 to 16 C.
THURSDAY cloudy, passing showers turning to heavier rain at times by afternoon and evening, strong westerly winds developing. Lows near 8 C and highs near 14 C.
FRIDAY breezy to windy, cooler. Passing showers, some with hail and thunder. Lows near 5 C and highs near 10 C.
SATURDAY cloudy with sunny breaks, some outbreaks of light rain mostly in west and later near south coast, some places staying dry, lows near 2 C and highs near 12 C.
A high pressure area will build gradually from Sunday into next week bringing mild and dry weather for several days, highs in a similar range (12 to 14 C) but possibly warmer on one or two days especially away from coastal sea breezes.

My weather returning home was wet until we got past the summit of the Cascade Range and stayed cloudy but generally dry for the rest of the way. Apparently while we were away it snowed again and the recent snow melted during the day, mostly before we arrived, so it looks more or less exactly as it did when we left several days ago.

Wednesday, 26 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Mild and generally dry except for some showery rainfalls later Thursday, and staying pleasant to around Wed 2 April, followed by a more unsettled trend although only slightly cooler.

    FORECASTS
TODAY will feature spells of hazy sunshine and highs 13 to 16 C.
TONIGHT a few outbreaks of light rain in western counties, staying partly cloudy and mild in the east, lows 6 to 10 C.
THURSDAY showers, some heavy towards afternoon and early evening, becoming windy (westerly 50-80 km/hr), highs 13 to 16 C.
FRIDAY breezy to windy, cooler, passing showers, a few with hail and thunder. Lows near 6 C and highs 8-11 C.
SATURDAY sunny intervals, mild, lows 2-4 C and highs 12-15 C.
SUNDAY sunny, warmer, lows 3-5 C and highs 13-16 C.
MONDAY sunny and quite warm in southeast breezes, lows near 5 C and highs 17 to 20 C (warmest inland west, central).
TUESDAY increasing cloud, warm, lows near 8 C, highs 14 to 16 C.
Later next week, becoming breezy to windy at times with more frequent cloud and some rain. Highs generally 11-13 C.

My local weather was very foggy for the morning, and tried to clear during the afternoon as very mild air moves over the steadily melting snowpack in our region. Lower down where there isn't any snow left, highs were 15-18 C; our high was around 12 C.

Thursday, 27 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Mild and generally dry except for some showery rainfalls later today, and staying pleasant to around Wed 2 April, and according to latest guidance, possibly longer as high pressure may refuse to leave the scene. Temperatures may begin to oscillate between near average and quite warm.

    FORECASTS
TODAY increasing cloud with afternoon or evening showers, some heavy briefly, becoming windy (westerly 50-80 km/hr), and mild with highs 13 to 16 C.
TONIGHT intervals of rain followed by partial clearing, breezy to windy (westerly 40-70 km/hr), lows near 6 C.
FRIDAY breezy to windy, cooler, passing showers, a few with hail and thunder, highs 8-11 C.
SATURDAY sunny intervals, isolated showers marking passage of a warm front during the mid-day to afternoon hours, becoming milder again, lows 2-4 C and highs 12-15 C.
SUNDAY sunny, warmer, lows 3-5 C and highs 13-16 C.
MONDAY sunny and quite warm in southeast breezes, lows near 5 C and highs 17 to 20 C (warmest inland west, central).
TUESDAY increasing cloud, warm, lows near 8 C, highs 15 to 18 C.
It now appears possible that the high bringing the pleasant spell of weather could stall just north of Ireland and allow dry conditions with an easterly wind to continue for several more days; temperatures may back off slightly especially over eastern counties exposed to a cooling sea breeze, so would expect highs later in the week to be near 15 C west, 11 C east.

My local weather on Wednesday was mild again with morning fog and afternoon sunny breaks, and a high of 12 C. A disturbance closer to the B.C. coast is bringing scattered thunderstorms there, with moderate south winds.

Friday, 28 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... A few showers today and tomorrow, then back to mild and dry for about a week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be breezy with passing showers, one or two could be locally heavy for brief intervals with hail or thunder. Other places could remain dry. Winds westerly 50 to 80 km/hr. Highs 8 to 11 C.
TONIGHT clearing briefly, cool, lows 1 to 4 C.
SATURDAY variable cloud, some outbreaks of light rain or drizzle with a warm front passing, highs 11 to 15 C.
SUNDAY hazy sunshine, mild. Lows 3 to 6 C and highs 12 to 16 C.
MONDAY sunny intervals, very mild. Lows 3 to 6 C and highs 13 to 18 C, mildest inland west.
TUESDAY to THURSDAY will continue sunny and warm inland although a chilly sea breeze is quite possible at times near south and east coasts. Highs inland 17 to 20 C but held down to 12 C near coasts. Nights mild despite clear skies, lows 3 to 7 C.
This mild, dry interval will probably break down rather gradually after Friday next (4 April) and it could persist beyond the following weekend. Often a prolonged spring warm spell will break to cold east or northeast winds from high pressure rebuilding to west or north. There are signs this may happen in mid-April also.

My local weather on Thursday featured fog, some rain in the morning, a few glimpses of the sun towards late afternoon, when it became quite mild (11-13 C). A very warm spell is developing in the central U.S. and this will spread to the east coast by Saturday; NYC could see a high near 28 C by then, and DC could be near 30 C.

Saturday, 29 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Generally quite dry and mild, as a southeast flow develops over several days; this will make temperatures feel cooler near east and south coast than elsewhere in the country.

    FORECASTS
TODAY will be cloudy with a few outbreaks of light rain or drizzle, clearing by late afternoon in western counties. Highs 11 to 14 C.
TONIGHT clear with a few clouds, lows 2 to 5 C.
SUNDAY sunny intervals, increasing cloud across south, isolated showers possible in west Munster. Highs 13 to 16 C.
MONDAY rather cloudy but some sunny breaks more frequent in west and north. Chilly sea breezes will be felt near east and south coast, highs near 10 C there; highs 13 to 16 C elsewhere.
TUESDAY sunny with a few clouds, similar temperatures to Monday except near 18 C in some parts of inland west.
WEDNESDAY to weekend of 5-6 April, continued dry, sunny by day and mild except for some cooling sea breezes (becoming more widespread due to a slacker pressure gradient). Highs 13 to 17 C for most areas.
Throughout this mild, dry interval, overnight lows will be generally near 5 C but could fall close to freezing with slight frosts possible in a few valley locations.

My local weather on Friday was foggy and overcast with light rain at times, highs near 10 C.

Sunday, 30 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Mild to warm, dry for about a week to ten days, with small amounts of rain possible in the south and southwest.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be rather cloudy at times in the south and southwest with isolated showers in west Munster. More sunshine is likely elsewhere. Mild with highs 13 to 16 C.
TONIGHT cloudy with a few clear intervals, mild, lows near 7 C.
MONDAY will be hazy with sunny intervals, very mild to warm inland and in western counties generally, somewhat cooler near south and east coasts due to southeast breezes but the marine cooling influence may not spread more than 5-10 km inland, highs generally 15 to 18 C (locally 10-12 C near coasts).
TUESDAY will also bring spells of warm sunshine and a similar temperature range to Monday.
WEDNESDAY increasing cloud, mild, lows 4 to 7 C and highs 14 to 18 C (closer to 12 C near some coasts).
THURSDAY a weak upper level disturbance will drift across Ireland from the southeast, it could set off one or two showers in the inland south to west coast but many locations will likely remain dry, lows near 8 C and highs 13 to 17 C.
From FRIDAY to some ill-defined point well into the future, a warm and generally dry easterly flow will continue and temperatures could edge up towards 19 or 20 C at times, with the ongoing cooler regime near east coast. Signs of any large-scale pattern change are weak, and would likely involve a day or two of cooler northeast breezes dropping temperatures back towards 10-13 C range.

My local weather on Saturday was partly cloudy with a few passing showers of light hail as freezing levels were quite low and at the surface here it was around 8 C in sunshine and 4 C in showers. Meanwhile the east coast of the U.S. got into very warm air briefly, raising highs to 27 C near NYC, but it stayed 1-3 C in BOS and it snowed all day in Vermont and eastern Ontario, with freezing rain in south-central Ontario and parts of upstate NY. Further west, severe storms are developing along a strong cold front in the plains states. There could be a significant outbreak on Sunday there.

Monday, 31 March, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Pleasant spring weather will continue for at least a week and possibly well into the second week of April, with temperatures 2 to 3 deg above average, no rain in most areas, and at least 25% above average sunshine.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will start out rather cloudy and the sun will be slowly breaking through patchy overcast by mid-day for a sunny afternoon, highs 13 to 17 C, coolest near east coast.
TONIGHT will be partly cloudy, hazy, with lows 4 to 7 C.
TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY will be sunny and quite warm away from the cooler east and south coasts. Moderate southeast breezes at times, highs near 17 C inland and 13 C coasts.
THURSDAY to WEEKEND 5-6 APRIL will continue mild and dry, although temperatures may drop back a degree or two each day starting around Friday as winds turn a little more to northeast.
NEXT WEEK could see a prolongation of this dry spell but eventually we expect a breakdown to somewhat cooler northeast to north winds and some cloud and showers by mid-month.

My local weather on Sunday was sunny with a high near 8 C. What's left of the snowpack in open areas is evaporating faster than it melts, so it is quite dry despite losing half the winter snow pack locally (valleys have been snowfree since mid-March). A frontal system in the eastern U.S. will put an end to the warm spell (which never reached New England but will briefly today). Some severe storms occurred in the Midwest on Sunday and these may redevelop near Washington and Baltimore today.

Tuesday, 1 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Warm and dry for most of the next two weeks, apart from some scattered light rainfalls Thursday. The dry regime looks like it will break down to a cooler and wetter pattern mid-April.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be sunny with highs 14 to 17 C for most, 11 to 13 C near east and south coasts. Moderate southeast breezes.
TONIGHT mainly clear, lows 4 to 8 C.
WEDNESDAY increasing high cloud across south, otherwise sunny, highs 13 to 16 C (10 to 12 C near some coasts in light winds).
THURSDAY rather cloudy in south and later in western counties, a few showers likely, staying partly cloudy further north, southeast breezes may cool the east coast also. Lows 5 to 9 C and highs 12 to 15 C.
FRIDAY partly cloudy, any brief showers in west dying out, sunny by afternoon. Lows near 8 C and highs 13 to 16 C.
The pattern will show little variation from that Friday forecast through the following week although it could be slightly cooler especially in Ulster and north Leinster. A breakdown appears likely by end of second week (around weekend of 12-13 April).

My local weather on Monday was chilly with morning light rain mixed with melting snow, afternoon dry but cloudy, around 6 C. After a third warm day for parts of the eastern U.S. (near 27 C in Washington DC) a line of heavy storms rolled through and brought in cooler temperatures; April looks likely to be considerably cooler than average in eastern regions of N America.

Wednesday, 2 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... After a few showers tomorrow in the southwest mainly, the mild to warm and dry regime will reload for another week to ten days,.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be mostly sunny, with a moderate southeast breeze bringing cooler temperatures to some parts of the east and south near coasts, otherwise highs 14 to 18 C (locally 11 to 13 C).
TONIGHT clear with increasing cloud after midnight, lows 3 to 7 C.
THURSDAY cloudy in south and later west, sunny breaks continuing in east and north. Some showers will push across Munster and could reach nearby portions of Leinster and Connacht, but amounts will be rather slight and some places will remain dry. Highs similar to today (mostly 14 to 18 C, some local cooler sea breeze zones).
FRIDAY a few showers in western counties before noon, skies clearing where cloud does encroach at all, lows 4 to 8 C and highs 13 to 17 C.
WEEKEND and NEXT WEEK will see this warm and dry regime continuing, the main variation may be lighter winds leading to sea breezes on all coasts rather than just east and south coasts. A breakdown looks gradual and as distant as mid-April.

My local weather on Tuesday featured some sunny intervals in partly cloudy skies, and seasonable highs near 10 C at this elevation, 15 C in nearby valleys.

Thursday, 3 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Except for some scattered light rainfalls late today and overnight, the next week to ten days looks dry and mostly sunny in many locations, with temperatures near average in the east (due to cooling effects of easterly breezes) and 2 to 4 deg above normal further west. A gradual breakdown to showery and cooler conditions will be at least ten days away, it appears.
    FORECASTS
TODAY will be sunny with increasing cloud during the afternoon. Some light rain could develop near south coast by late afternoon into the evening. Highs 12 to 14 C east, 17 to 20 C west. Moderate easterly breezes 30 to 60 km/hr.
TONIGHT winds easing, rain will move about as far north as Meath to Galway, but 2-5 mm at most hardly breaking the developing dry spell, before clearing away to west. Lows 7 to 10 C, higher because of widespread cloud.
FRIDAY any remnant showers will likely be drifting west from Clare and Kerry. Sunshine will return to most areas with a similar temperature regime to today, 12-15 C east, 17-20 C west.
Through this weekend and most if not all of next week, very similar weather will continue with lots of sunshine and breezes from an easterly direction, trending more southeast as time goes on, which will result in cooling sea breezes being a bit weaker for Leinster but stronger in Munster. This won't change the temperature regime in most parts of the country inland and further west, but a slacker pressure gradient at times may mean sea breezes can form on the west coast also, having limited inland effect. Highs could actually edge upward slightly during next week and low 20s in some parts would not be surprising, with 13-17 C a range for cooler sea breeze zones. Nights will be rather cool with some overnight lows close to freezing but it will warm up very quickly after sunrise as inversions break down.
The current idea for a breakdown scenario is for the blocking high to settle further south and weaken, allowing westerly flow from the Atlantic that may veer to cooler northwesterly winds for a few days, but also there are signs of a second warm, dry spell for later in April after that relatively brief interruption. The risk of drought and isolated wild fires is probably going to increase despite some rain indicated mid-month (10-20 mm is the current indication, but by then it will have been basically a month of nearly complete drought, today's later rainfalls will not do much to change the soil moisture).
My local weather on Wednesday was overcast and rather cool with highs near 5 C, slow clearing took place during the evening. Some very severe storms have developed in the central U.S. heading towards the Ohio valley, and heavy rainfalls are predicted for that region over several days as the front responsible stalls and leads to prolonged rains into the 150-300 mm range (KY/TN/s OH, IN most at risk).
