Just blow them all up refs - Brighton and Forest dropping points as it stands

    Still need a penalty taker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,971 ✭✭✭Panrich

    Did we miss 2 penalties?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,509 ✭✭✭Patser

Forest getting the yips, and a tricky run in. Spurs next, also Brentford and Chelsea in that list

Great assist by Asensio for McGinn for the 2nd. Job done, we're in 5th, but teams behind obviously have games in hand.

Into 5th until tomorrow at least. Asensio should have handed both those pens to Watkins. He could have been past Gabby today.

Forest will be looking over their shoulder very nervously now. The pack including us are closing in.

The next 2 prem games could be season defining.

At home to a more rested Newcastle after our CL 2nd leg. Then we have to face City at the Ethihad.

Could easily be 2 losses and hand the ascendency to those clubs especially given their games in hand / already being better placed but… If Villa won at least one of those games or even got 6 points suddenly everything would be rosy.

Anyway (don't expect it but) C'Mon Ipswich (Vs Chelsea) and Man Utd (Vs Newcastle) tomorrow.

In good news for us, Newcastle are playing Palace on Wednesday so we get an extra days rest for that game.

It huge as well in terms of getting over Wednesday night, they're not brooding on it all weekend, we're going into Tuesday with a win in the back pocket.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 23,030 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

    Completely missed that!

Let's hope Palace and United can prove the banana skins they usually do for us for Newcastle between now and then so

Poor aul Eddie Howe won't be there for the Man U game. It's reported he's in hospital and a few saying on twitter he had a heart attack. Hopefully a speedy recovery, seems like a good guy of football.

great to win our last 4. Surprised at some of the selections today but it doesn’t matter, we got the win and that’s the main thing. Having subs who can actually change a game really is a massive improvement on years gone by.

onto Tuesday where we hope for a miracle and just see what happens. 2 massive games in the league then, think we get at least 4 points from them and if we do we will get top 5.

A very exciting end to the season; I hope the players get their reward at the end of it which they fully deserve, be it top 5 or an fa cup or both 😀

Hopefully Howe is well. That Sunday/Wednesday/Saturday turnaround is far from ideal for Newcastle. Especially since they tend to play the same 11 very often.

I didn’t hear anything about that, Jesus that’s awful if true.

Jan transfer window must go down as one of the best of all time.

ollie has to start Tues, has too

Still don’t know how I feel about it. If the season ends with some sort of tangible success (winning the FA Cup or qualifying again for CL) then yeah 100% every bit of it was worth it.

But otherwise, even though the squad is clearly much stronger, it’s alot of money spent without the long term return or resale ability, for a team who are unfortunately probably going to face FFP realities in the summer again in terms of having to sell players you want to keep.

They are a huge reason we are where we are in the season and they really gave the squad a lift, personally I have loved the additions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,404 ✭✭✭✭CSF

No, can’t argue with that. Just can’t shake the feeling that in Villa’s current financial predicament pretty much every penny spent needs to be measured against the financial return on investment. Probably need a fair few Duran type signings/sales before Villa will be allowed luxury spend in the way the big 6 do.

Two successive seasons in the new format Champions League would put the club on a solid financial footing, this season Villa will have secured more than €50m in prize money.

Once it's a straight swap or face value it's fine here.
