stick gleeson (if fit) with Kiely in a two full forward line and lob high balls all day long on top of them and let Dessie/bennett/Patrick fitz/Barron etc feed off them……gleeson has as much ‘hurling’ if not more than Duggan/shannagher…..?

On Dalo's examiner pod they said Aussie had a setback and won't be fit for all of Munster campaign

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,744 ✭✭✭Asdfgh2020

After todays draws it an even tougher task over the next two weeks to get any win. It’s hardly possible to pull off an ambush in our first game as last year…? So most likely there will be no hurling for gleeson at all this year…..a couple of mins v Westmeath is all he has gotten if I’m not mistaken…?
Also queally seems he’ll bent on putting Kiely in the half backs or was this just a ploy for the league to confuse opposition.

Nice to know this place is as miserable as usual before we've even pucked a ball. Clare were written off against Cork today and were arguably unlucky to not get the win. We'll be written off by the media enough during the week. No need to do it to our own lads. Have a bit of hope ffs.

In America atm and saw the results. Christ we didn't even hit a ball and were already in bother

This campaign will show how good we really are

and emphasises the importance of having a fit Prunty available at the other end

Those 2 games today really whet the appetite for Walsh Park next Sunday I just hope we can rise to the level required. My big worry is that we are going into the Clare game a bit undercooked having strolled through a mediocre league and received a bye in the first round, Clare go into this game battle hardened and knowing a lot more about themselves

Just going on results, I’d be fairly positive after today with all other teams only getting a point but it just means as would always have been the case, Waterford have to win one of their home games to stand any realistic chance but win one of the games, and there’s a chance they will have a shot of qualifying if they beat Tipp which is a realistic expectation.
if Waterford win next week, Clare could get only get to 5 and that would include them beating in Limerick which would limit Limerick. I’m not going through all the possible points but my main point is that after todays results, 4 points will probably be enough to advance so 2 wins.

Looks like it’s going to be another dog fight in Munster one which will go down to the last day. This time next week we will know whether we will be involved or will just be watching from the outside. How do people feel about our chances after watching the two games today?

Our best chance of getting out of Dodge is to beat Clare & Tipp ; difficult but not impossible !

Worried about our intensity and physicality. Think we have the players to match any team in munster from a hurling perspective - but not when it becomes a slugfest

Munster is a dog fight but the reality is, if you win your home games, you most likely qualify. 4 points always seems to be enough, that could change this year.

At the start of every year the target has to be, win your home games regardless of the opposition. Had we have done that last year, we would have qualified.

If you don't win your two home games, you really face a struggle in qualifying.

In a way it’s hard to figure Clare out. The first half on Sunday was a continuation of the poor form they had showed in the league while the second was the form that saw them win the all Ireland last year. Were they just slow to get going on Sunday having not played for a few weeks and by the second half they were up to speed. Or was their excellent second half more to do with cork being down to 14 and also cork losing their centre back for a good chunk of the half. Clare came flying out in the second half putting 1-2 on the board but cork responded with 3 points of their own and looked to have steady the ship and this was when the sending off occurred. Clare went route one in second half and rained ball down on duggan and he had a field day, it’s crucial that prunty is fit as Offaly did this against us and we struggled big time with out him.
One thing about Clare they are a resilient bunch, 12down at half time on Sunday missing 3 big players in O’Donnell, Cleary and Ryan and still weren’t beaten.

has anyone heard anything about the injury situation? After league final think queally said all should be back bar ozzy, but there was also 2new injuries with jack pender before the final and Peter hogan in the final. We could do with close to a full hand to pick from

tickets for Clare game on Ticketmaster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 391 ✭✭Krazy gang

Clare have a lot of performances like that over the last few years where they are awful in the first half and storm into it in the second half, eg 2023 and 24 semi finals against kilkenny. Last year's first round v limerick was the opposite. Hurled limerick off the field for the first 50 minutes, then collapsed, conceded 3 goals and beaten.

Very much a momentum team where they can put up big scores in a short amount of time.. If cleary misses out again, lohan at full back is a definite weak link.

so the proposed covered stand on the west terrace is now going to be a traditional terrace.
The existing covered and uncovered stands won’t change much bar entrances.
I’ll wait to see the actual design but I’d be concerned about the East terrace ‘Pavilion’ idea.
Stadiums are cat if fans aren’t on the 4 sides.
if they are clever and have a suitably sized covered terrace like Parnell park built into whatever the are proposing then it could be really great.

half time Tipp 1-13 to 0-9. Getting cleaned out in many areas of the field. Someone needs to just put young Hartley of his misery and take him off the frees

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭5948ai

All over for the u20s. The Limerick match is one they left behind. We'll hopefully pick up a couple of players from the panel. A reliable free taker is crucial like at all levels.

Yerra, just put me down for what I said after the last U20 match!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,421 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

1-23 to 2-14. A spirited performance in the second half but up against a class Tipp team laiden with all Ireland minor and colleges medal winners and a few from the seniors aswell

I think throwing away the game against Limerick the last day was very hard to bounce back from and we were second best for most of the game

that’s us our now with only pride to play for against Cork in the last game

All in all Ken McGrath Tony Browne Andy Moloney and Kevin Moran have done a decent job in year 2 with a group that was never rated up through the underage ranks. The skill levels and performances have improved this year and there’s definetly some players that will come into the senior reckoning over the next couple of years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,220 ✭✭✭seananigans

seems like some great skills on show , just not joined up properly which is criminal at this level, if it was minor thered be a reason . some skillfull players hopefully can be moved onward and upward ,for most ti will be the last time they wear a Waterford jersey

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭Alf Tupper

We did have a reliable free taker - Tom Carey - he just wasn't picked. Fifteen frees missed over three games is unforgivable and should not be tolerated by any management team.

some inexcusable unforced errors through out also….over hitting simple stick/hand passes….fumbling pickups, discipline also cost them a few pts…🥲🥲
