Penalty Points AXA Car Insurance

    Hey everyone,

This is probably my OCD messing with me. I am a young driver, first time getting car insurance. I purchased a car on Sunday and had a look through all the insurance companies and managed to get a quote from AXA for 1.5K. I filled everything correctly I believe online, including the fact I had 2 penalty points.

Insurance got activated, got a policy number, made payment, all the jazz. However, I had a look at the statement of facts and it shows that I put down 0 penalty points, even though it asked me twice, once on the details page, and then a second time on the payments page it asked for my driver number and then the 2 penalty points appeared and I had to press confirm.

I'm thinking now that I might have accidentally forgotten to declare the penalty points on the details page, I was messing about with adding my parents and removing them as named drivers to see if that would change the quote given, and maybe I might have unadded the penalty points by accident.

I called AXA this morning, told them the situation, he told me that he can see the penalty points perfectly fine in the system and I have nothing to worry about, and it might have just been a printing error and he re-issued a brand new statement of facts for me. I had a look a few hours later, and the new statement of facts (I think..?) shows 0 penalty points still.

I called them a second time, explained again, the person on the phone said he can see that a statement of facts was re-issued and he also said he can see the 2 penalty points in the system no problem and that I have nothing to worry about and it doesn't even affect my policy or quote until I have 5 penalty points or more. He also said the paper versions will probably have it fixed.

Am I just overthinking this? It's my first time getting car insurance in my own name and I'm freaking out that I accidentally forgot to declare the penalty points in the first step and they only were able to see them because of the driver number so now there is a discrepancy and my policy will become void/cancelled and I won't be able to get car insurance in the future or if I get into an accident my claims will be denied!

If anyone had a similar experience, let me know.

You are overthinking it. Even if, worst case scenario, you had an accident and they said you had declared 0 penalty points, there is a recording of the conversation you had.

Can you elaborate how the recording of the conversation would help? Thank you :)

Once they have your licence number you should be ok, as the points show up when they check it

He said the below so that shows he was aware of the points and assured you it didn't matter.

"I called them a second time, explained again, the person on the phone said he can see that a statement of facts was re-issued and he also said he can see the 2 penalty points in the system no problem and that I have nothing to worry about and it doesn't even affect my policy or quote until I have 5 penalty points or more."

OK. Thanks. I need to submit my named driver experience letter anyways, waiting for that to arrive in the post, and the other AXA documents too. I might pop into the AXA branch once all the documents arrive and just triple check there as well. I'm a very anxious person when it comes to these things… 😭

Just check what is written in the policy documentation that you received from them

Will have to wait for the paper versions to arrive via the post, the "Statement of Facts" via the MyAXA portal show 0 penalty points. The only other stuff that's in the MyAXA portal is the "Policy Direct Debit', "Receipt", "Insurance Disc & Certificate", "Production Information Document", "Policy Document", and the "Schedule", along with the "Terms of Business", and "Transaction Charges".

The Policy Document is just a generic link to the AXA page, the only documents that are curated specifically for me are the Schedule, the Disc & Cert, the Receipt, Policy Direct Debit and Statement of Fact.

Wait for the paperwork to issue to you.But your driver number will show the penalty points. It's frustrating alright. You should receive the letter on Friday I'd say because of the holiday weekend.

See what I don't understand is if they have the driver number now and can see the penalty points off the bat, why do they even bother asking for it? It lets people lie or make potential mistakes like myself. Hopefully all is sorted, and yeah, it's definitely frustrating to wait, especially with the bank holiday weekend.

It's usually a computer asking for stuff not a human. I keep getting emails telling me to submit my drivers number as it's required now when taking out a new policy. My current policy was taken out in February so they will get it when I have to renew next February. Put it out of your head until you get the documents.

No he's not , God forbid he's in a prang , been told over a phone i( unless it's recorded) would give me no succour ! Insurance companies are slippery as eels ! I get EVERYTHING spelled out in black & white ! Like the word says ASSUME makes an ASS of U & Me ! If an Insurance Co. can wriggle out then they will ! If I were that kid I'd request new documents reflecting fact ! Maybe I'm OCD but I'm old enough to have heard all the technicalities !

100% this. Insist on them getting the paperwork correct - start dealing with them in writing too.

I'm gonna head to the local AXA branch the moment I get the documents in the post and if they are incorrect.

Get the paperwork and examine it line line.AXA or any of them will interpret your disclosures whatever way they want.
