    €20k maybe.
Same as any other EV or thereabouts.
Significantly cheaper with a small garage/independant , in the same way than an ICE engine from a main dealer could cost €20k too but significantly cheaper with a small garage/independant.

Has anyone here had to replace out of warranty yet?

    not an issue.

irrelevant reply @ted1, I’m inquiring as to costs and didn’t tell you why.

@Gumbo You reckon 20K? Small independent garages in Ireland replace official Tesla batteries with new Tesla batteries? Specifically not inquiring about reconditioned batteries, only brand new genuine Tesla batteries.

For the new Y it’s delivering to the first Irish customers in June, so battery replacement will not have been possible for any Irish customer for any reason for this newer model at this juncture.

We could probably discern the price if we knew the total price for this for the prior model. Without looking at any data I’m assuming the new model has a slightly bigger capacity battery, but cost differences for this service probably aren’t going to be major from old to newer models, all things considered.

Tesla barriers are out of warranty after 120,000 miles, so it’s not impossible for there to be an irish customer of the prior Y to have availed of this. More likely is selling or trading the car and upgrading to another car, but someone out there may have did it. USA prices may not be our best way to get a good idea as they may vary wildly from this in Ireland.

    l will entertain you

why are you interested in knowing the cost ?

If a battery needs replacing it’s far cheaper to replace the faulty cells.

    What exactly are you asking?

Your posts are making no sense…

Stop bothering us, ask Tesla in Sandyford.

The Tesla Model Y pack is the floor of the car, it is structural and the seats and interior are mounted to the casing. When you do disassemble everything and PEEL the top cover away, this is what you are faced with. "The repairability of this pack is essentially zero". On the plus side, the lack of repairability may mean that the pack of less likely to fail due to water ingress etc.

But the OP asks a perfectly reasonable question and predictably, EV zealots want to deflect.

Easy to be blase with someone else's money "just bring it to an indy garage", "just get it repaired". Yeah, and get a spurious battery from micksgarage while they're at it LOL.

In any case, if the OP is talking about general battery degradation, there is no repairing.

A Model Y needing a battery pack out of warranty is a write off. And the owner is unlikely to be heading to a breakers to pick up a battery from a crashed vehicle and getting an indy garage to fit it.

Whereas with an ICE needing an engine, this may well be an option. Breakers yards full of crashed ICE vehicles. EVs not so much. An ICE car that has been hit from the back, side or underneath resulting in damage to the structure or underside may well still have an intact engine. A similarly damaged Model Y? Highly unlikely that anyone will be reusing its battery.

Why is that unlikely? There is an EV breaker just up the road in NI that regularly sell battery packs from written off EVs. A lot of the cars have very little damage, Tesla are notorious for being written off due to the long delays getting parts in.

Most EV’s are notoriously written off due to uncertainty, it’s not just a Tesla thing. As proved by Calvin in EV Breakers (The place you’re talking about in Newry).

I started buying parts for various EV’s from him back in 2020. Was a gent to deal with.

you just bought into the posters FUD,

will a model Y require a battery replacement?

    Thats the question.

Also the. Video you l posted relates to 4680 batteries. Ireland will be using the 2170

Unsure the accuracy of your post, but I decided to delete my original post editing it away, as I generally find the tone of these boards to be unhelpful, insulting and derogatory. Regret asking my perfectly reasonable question. My question was answered in a very helpful AutoTrader YouTube video I watched today. In insulting people for asking basic questions certainly puts people off wanting to own one of these vehicles as the community around here seems to be filled with snarky know-it-alls, not confident helpful people. Will look somewhere else from now on when I have EV questions.
