She is in fair nick for someone retiring. I wish her all the best.

I suspect we haven't seen the end of her.

    Always enjoyed her presenting style.

I did not like her presenting style....

melodramatic behaviour designed to attract attention.

I think Martin King on TV3 started the trend of chatty weather forecasters.

In fairness she seemed good fun.. Met Eireann pensions are probably gold plated soo she can swan off into the sunset. Speaking of which I predict a contracting gig in RTE for her, starting with a travel show and then maybe a science or quiz/game show type effort.

Fair well Joanna. You had your own inimitable style. All the best in the future.

I prefer Michelle Dillon, she has a lovely Irish lilt. She is from a farming background in West Clare.

Joanna seemed to seek attention. What started off as a harmless likeable trait has become more and more annoying to the extent it was often difficult to follow what she was saying. She seems highly excitable and it was quite distracting. I think weather presenters should do their best to present the weather in a professional and calm manner. Michelle Dillon does just that. I am sure Joanna is a v nice women, hope she enjoys the next chapter of her life.

    Fare thee well Joanna.

Over the years I would’ve had similar concerns/criticisms of your presenting “style” let’s say but we will leave that in the past now and say all the best for your future plans.

Farewell Joanna. Not an easy job by any means but I always enjoyed your manner and style. I hope you enjoy the next phase of your career.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

My favourite moment ever from her with this cheeky comment on Twitter days coming up to the Beast from the East.

The discrimination against attractive weather girls in Ireland is sad.

Siobhan Ryan and Michelle Dillon are both younger and very attractive……. there is no discrimination against attractive weather girls in Ireland. Joanna was a bit like marmite…love/hate. I found her style very distracting particularly lately, almost giddy and disjointed.

Siobhan Ryan and Michelle Dillon are calm and professional. Again this is just my opinion and it is entirely based on presenting styles. I could say the same about Miriam O Callaghan versus Sarah McInerney, Micheal Martin versus Simon Harris. The viewer makes up their minds on these little idiosyncrasies. There is nothing wrong in commenting on it.

she tweeted a few weeks ago about this, it sounded like someone higher up in work called her "smart" or "difficult" and she was asking for opinions on this along with some selfies of herself. She was calling it sexist saying a man would never have to deal with being called "smart" in a working environment , as in a smart alec.

Really enjoyed Joanna’s forecasts, wishing her all the best in her retirement from weather presenting!

I saw a thread on Reddit this morning that suggested the same

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ireland/comments/1k4olf7/met_%C3%A9ireann_weather_presenter_joanna_donnelly_has/

I'd have the same opinion as yourself, clearly knows her stuff professionally but personality wise not my cup of tea at all, very much attention seeking and a tendency to trip herself up by needlessly overcomplicating simple bits of information. But each to their own I suppose, wishing her all the best for whatever comes next

If was a quirky and different style. And you could see the passion she had for the role and weather in general.

Though sometimes she did trip up quite badly in her forecasts. Mind you, these things always look much easier than they are. Few of us on here would do much better…

I wish her well. She seems like a lovely person and hopefully she'll still engage and talk about the weather on her social channels.

I know many will disagree, but for me I don't think MET E meteorologists should necessarily be presenting the weather, especially when there are so few people in there to choose from.

Presenting the weather on TV is a media skill. It's all about communications.

But a meteorologist is something completely different requiring different skills and knowledge.

Get the meteorologists to draw up the forecast and sign off on it but get a trained media professional to give it.

Obviously you can sometimes strike gold and get a meteorologist who's also a natural born media presenter. Especially in bigger organisations. But that's hard in MET E.

I wish her well on her next adventures in life but I was not a fan of how she told the weather but she was good crack and is a good person. She was fun on DWTS as well.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I know I'm going to get flak for this but it has to be said - some of the comments in this thread, not by regular Weather posters, are insanely sexist and misogynistic. Would you like it if said comments were made about your partner, daughter, sister, mother?

The comment involving Evelyn Cusack in particular is so far out of line. Totally disgraceful to see that sh1te in this form.

    Thread flagged to the Mods.

Going by that Irish times article she seems to want to “reveal” why she resigned at some point in future but is “keeping us in suspense” for now…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Hippodrome Song Owl

She wouldn't be my favourite weather forecaster, but I enjoyed her obvious enthusiasm and love for the science of her job. I hope she's happy in the next stage of her life and it's a shame if she's leaving due to something unpleasant. She certainly inspired some very bizarre and angry responses from people online.
