Precipitation levels and records in Europe

    FB_IMG_1745252548730.jpg

Contrary to widespread perception, the west of Ireland is not the wettest part of Europe - Western Scotland, Western Norway and even Georgia on the Black Sea have higher average yearly rainfall levels.

We may be more consistently wet than some of those places, mind. I've was in Montenegro in October once and the rain was torrential. Properly biblical stuff on more than one day, like we'd never get here.

Was in Tbilisi too and the rain was so heavy it damaged a key bridge north, so my tour next day was cancelled. Fortunately for me, it was the only bridge leading to Russia, so it was fairly important they fixed it quickly, and the tour was back on later the same week.

(Side note - go to Georgia. It's an incredible spot)

Any chance you could post the source? The resolution is too low.

Has the fire gone out yet?

I knew I'd read off that island somewhere recently.

Its a classic case of scientists with a narrow world-view coming up with a solution to one problem that creates an even bigger one.

It's highly likely the fires are as a result of the scientists culling the island's cattle herd, resulting in a buildup of dry vegetation, and now wildfire devastation of the very habitat they were trying to protect.

Note that 3 decagon carousel-type boarding pavilions were originally planned - only one was built along with Terminal 1 in 1971/1972.
