Good rolling tobacco

Hmmm. I didn't want to post this in the food forum for obvious reasons.

I want to move away from the old ciggies and onto hand rolls. I'm quite partial to JP blue and Camel lights. The question in short is, is there a rolling tobacco similar in taste to either of those? I've tried Drum before, didn't taste too great.

    Any advice? :dunno:

It's very hard to get a tobacco that will taste like a brand of cigarettes, it's just a matter of getting used to it. Golden Virginia isn't bad

would agree there alright. It's just a matter of getting used to the taste and would also go along with the Golden Virginia recommendation. You have no taste it u smoke blues ;-)

Why are you moving from the cigs? just a change, or the ould wallet?

    Cheers, I'll check it out.

Yeah, mainly the old cash flow. But also cos it would cut down smoking. Instead of just whipping a carton out of my pocket, I'll have to get out a pack some & some skins and spend time rolling it. Making the overall temptation less. :P

When I lived at home in Dublin I went from Smoking John Player Blue to rollies. I tried them all and I came across Cutter's Choice. It's in a yellow pack if I remember correctly and it was the closest tasting tobacco I found to a regular smoke. Well worth a try and fair cheap compared to a pack of JP.

I live in Florida now and I can buy a carton of 200 Marlboro Lights 100's for less than $25. $2.50 a pack. I would have to give up smoking if I was paying 6 euro a pack back home. Anyhow, Try out Cutters Choice... It's not a bad smoke.

Yeah, know what you mean alright. Rolling a cig is very fulfilling but I'm such an addict I prefer the handiness of the packs!

Gotta love the US for that. If you're coming back this way stick a couple of cartons of Marlboro reds in for me would you :-) reds in the US are totally different to what we get here.

Don't let 'em get to u.. light one up and you'll feel better;) it pisses me off that anytime smokers have a thread some dildo comes along and sticks their oar in with the anti smoking line ....so how about shipping some reds to me ? lol.

www.discountsmoking.net are pretty decent for getting cheap smokes. It can take quite a while for them to arrive but it works out at around €35 for 200...

i smoke 'cutters choise' afaik its pipe tobacco.

Really nice flavour to it. I loved marlboro lights and camel lights myself, but i find they are too dry after smokeing CC

    Give it a shot :)

If you're coming from Player tobacco, you might want to try Drum, but it's a wee bit strong.
Cutters Choice meself, occasionally Sweet Afton

I've tried drum, drum light, and the light blue packet of drum, along with Golden Virginia and Samson.
I liked them all, though dark blue drum could be a bit nifty at times.

Couldn't agree with you more Ferdi!

    It's a sub-conscious effort to give up smoking! ;););)

I am a Camel Lights smoker, but the very odd time I get the oul Rollies out.

I cannot for the life of me roll though, so I use a One-Skin sized Rolling machine. Also, for €1 you can buy a packet of 150 Rizla Filters.

I sometimes find it hard to judge the amount of tobacco to use, but its trial and error.

As for the type of tobacco to use, I use Drum, either the Light or Dark Blue coloured pack.

And about the Silk Cut, I have to say, it is the horriblest tobacco I have ever had the misfortune to smoke.

I'd also recommend getting yourself a pack of filters, the Rizla ones are only ~e1 for a pack for about 200. Not too bad, and it tends to make a nicer smoke

Cheers lads. Where do I buy the filters exactly? I never see them with all the other skins and tobacco in shops.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

You can buy them in most newsagents...just ask for them as you are buying your tobacco and skins, they'll know what you want.

If you do buy the filters, I recommend you put a handful in your tobacco pouch, it beats carrying the box with you all the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

Tbh i never use filters. i find em a bit acidic. also i like my wafer thin rollies :D

Drums nice enough. sweet aftons tasty too.

It's amazing what you can get in shops with big tobacco selections, like snuff :)

Ah, someone mentioned a rolling machine earlier. I was thinking of buying one since my days as a youth proved I couldn't roll when asked to make a spliff.

I went to this site here: http://www.roll-ups.co.uk but it got me a bit confused. Which roller, filter and skin should I buy exactly? What's the best combo if I want something similar to a cigarette? I'd prefer an auto-roller, mainly because they look spiffy: http://www.roll-ups.co.uk/ishop/879/shopscr18.html

    Any advice?

I dont really know the story with the different skins, but I generally use the Red or Green Rizla ones, the green ones are thinner I think, but I dont notice.
