the ultimate edition can be greatly over clocked

If I remember correctly the lite has a 128bit memory bus, whereas the normal one has a normal 256bit bus. The slow memory bus actually has a big impact on performace, bringing it down to just above 9600XT standards.

I think it was this card that applied to, but I can't be certain.

no its just that the the ultimage edition is made from better components with bigger heat dissipation that alows higher over clocking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,375 ✭✭✭kmick

Both 128 according to the blurb on Komplett.
    So just overclocking then?

Both cards have 128Mb and 256bit Memory Bus.

It is the Radeon9800 pro SE , that is the 128bit version, and should be avoided.

As Batbat said the UE edition comes with extra bits, inc a Zalman Heat Pipe, for greater and a very silent cooling option. Though you could just get the Radeon9800 Pro for the 210 and get the Artic VGA cooler for 7 euros.

you should not be paying more the 180 euro for the 9800 pro 128megs

Well the cheapest ive seen the 128MB Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro Lite-RTL is on jes-computers for €189.99

ehh what? Firstly hes talking about the Lite V Retail version, the ultimate didnt come into it.

The difference between the ultimate and the other editions is the ultimate is passivly cooled so doesent make noise. For this reason its probably less overclockable than the other versions.......

Nope. Your thinkin of the 9800pro 128bit v the 9800pro 256bit memory interface...... this has nothing to do with the "Lite" version.

    Basically exactly what ADREN said.

The actual difference between the Lite and Retail is the "Lite" version doesent come with any games included as standard....... thats pretty much the difference.

Watch not to get the "128bit Memory interface version" or the "9800SE"....... think jes only have the 256bit cards anyway.

PS Batbat where can you get a 9800pro for €180?

Lite version does not have any free games

    The Retails version does....

They are the exact same card, just different packaging!

omg would you read his post and open his links, the second link is to the ultimate edition which YES is quieter it has a massive heat sink instead of a big fan, no it also has better alloy components ans IS more overclockable.

the ultimate does indeed come with a game but thats not the main difference (if your unlucky you get Tomb raider 4 or 5 whatever the latest one is)

I got mine at Komplett about 3 months ago for 180, it was on special

The only difference between the normal pro and ultimate pro is that is cooled using the fan and ****ty heatsink while the ultimate is passively cooled, thus quieter.. It does not OC better AFAIK

I think the original poster just got a bit confused because there is no Full Retail non-ultimate edition.

His original question was about lite retail and full retail, he thought full retail was the "ultimate edition".

Jike jesus_thats_gre said, Lite Retail is the same card, less the fancy packaging and games.

Solider of Fortune 2 and Return to castle wolftenstein were packacged with the Saphire 9800Pro, when the card came out they were very very good games.

Half life 2 coupon was bundled with the XT's!

erm... i reckon you got one of the 9800 pro se's
haven't seen a proper 9800 pro for under €200 on komplett recently, even on offer.

Read the topic. The poster got mixed up with the links.

Massive heatsink or not if its passivly cooled the card is going to get very very hot which is not a good thing for overclocking. The ultimate version is aimed at people who want silence.......... overclocking never came into the equation.

Are you sure about that? Think there might have been a 9800se close to that price but definetly not €180 ....... cheapest 9800pro is €190 from jes and AFAIK komplett didnt even come close to that price even with specials they were still over €200.

I did not really get mixed up I asked what the diff was between Lite-Retail and Retail and if you follow the linsk this is what you see Lite-Retail and Retail. I think the answer to the question is the card is the same but the stuff that comes in the box is not.

    For Clarity...

    The following cards are available;

    Lite-Retail
    Full Retail
    Full Retail Ultimate Edition

You asked the difference between Lite and Full Retaill (and yes, they are the same card).....the Ultimate Edition (Your Second Link) is a whole different card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭Col_Loki

    Yea exactly Jammer.

Lite-Retail - Same as retail but with no games
Full Retail - Comes with games
Full Retail Ultimate Edition - Same as retail but with silent cooling

kmick , im not sure what you ment but that should tell you the difference which ever one you were talkin about........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,375 ✭✭✭kmick

So there are three versions. Now the other posts all make sense thanks for clearing it up.

I got my 9800 pro for €195 from Komplett about a month ago - it was in their "demo" section - i.e. the box was battered but other than that its perfect :)
