iPods cost the same in most shops so pick a shop that has the best customer care. Compu-b, 3G store, O2 Experience etc. Compustore, if they are open again.

FM transmitters are illegal to use, but I hear that Compu-b have a few left in Limerick. I got my iTrip from www.everythingipod.co.uk it was a bit of a hassle - they wern't the easiest to deal with but at least I got it in the end.

Is the Itrip the FM transmitter? If so how do u find it, i read on a few sites that it can be very fuzzy.
In in dub city centre so going to head up to the shops at lunch and check them out.
    Thanks for the help.

iTrip is the transmitter. The sound quality is quite good, but it can be difficult to get a free station around Dublin - occasional crackles but is well worth it to get rid of all the CDs from the car. Its not available in most shops in this country because it is illegal.

There's always one. Don't listen to these people.

If you are getting an FM transmitter, don't go for the iTrip. Buy one from http://www.xtrememac.com/ instead. It doesn't need any software installed.

Buy what you like best. The great thing about the iPod is the simple software used for storing and loading music. Also it is used by much more people, so you will have no problem getting help using it, getting accessories or swapping files with you friends.

The creative is also very good but I cannot comment because I haven't used it much.

don't be too quick to dismiss Argos, yes you won't get anything in the way of service or advice from them but you know what you want so thats ok, and their refund is great,

you: "Hi i got this very sensitive, rather expensive piece of equipment here 364 days ago and its not working (don't mention you brought it scuba diving), here's my receipt"

Bored underpaid stressed assistant: "No problem, here's another one, thank you"

hahaha, no probs, was worth the read :D .

    Cheers again all!

If you have a tape deck stick with one of those tape things. Also look at reviews for the other players. The ipod is one of the worst of a very good bunch (i.e not terrible but others are better and cheaper). 20gb ipod is 330, 40gb iriver is 340. If you dont believe others are better check out www.ipodlounge.com where even the ipod apostles will admit its shortcomings and how other machines are far superior

Why are they illegal? Don't they have a range of only a few metres?

iTrip's aren't illegal, they're just crap. My mate got one in the US, and he says the interference and fuzziness of using it in Dublin makes it useless.

The're illegal because if you use one you are in violation of out country's broadcasting laws. Afaik it doesn't matter because our laws don't specify a distance, so technically if you use one you need t get a lisence, but its not enforced.

Argos dropped their price by €120 to €320? I bought a 20gb iPod 2 years ago for €350.

said i think that was the dropped price not quite sure what the price is now but do know they dropped it 120. 2 years ago they weren't as popular and the government like raising the price of things a lot with inflation and the ipod in argos is the new generation

Yeah, the 20gig in argos was some crazy price a while ago.
Then, only a WEEK after I get one, they drop the price.

Although allegedly in the catalogue they were saying you needed 8 C batteries to power it, so I wouldn't trust, well... anything they say after that.

It's only illegal if you're a square - which you must be if you listen to Jimmy eats World...

Please, get the name right. Jimmy Eat World. Absence of S. I'm pointing this out because you obviously need help differentiating between "Jimeatsmenu" and "jimmyeatworld".

I got a 40gb iPod before Christmas. Not worth the money I reckon - I shoulda got a creative zen instead. The iPod drove me nuts for weeks - my 2000+ mp3 collection was sorted by filenames instead of ID3 tags. It took a LOT of DAMN HARD work to get them in order so the iPod could use them. Not much fun.

I got my iPod in the O2 shop on Nassau St just before Christmas. I personally think they are well worth the money.

I dunno about buying from a catalogue though - they have them in the Kays catalogue and are charging €445 for the 20GB model, which is €105 dearer than I got mine for.
