Suggestions for DVD ripping software

My uncle has a DVD of famous speeches (e.g. MLK's "I have a dream") and wants to rip tiny portions for use in some Powerpoint presentations.

What software do you recommend to extract small clips?

On download.com I found DVD Ripper and the trial version seemed okay (rips to avi which I think would have to edit externally). So, before he goes and purchases this I wanted to ask if anyone had other suggestions. Ideally one which doesn't require an external editor. Ideal price would be between e0 and e50.

DVD Shrink doesn't seem to be suitable as it rips the entire disc - he will only need tiny clips (10-20 secs I guess).
He won't be burning them to DVD, just adding them to Powerpoint presentations.

See www.doom9.org for all the software (free) and instructions.

Remember I Ireland has no "fair use" provisions so what he is doing is illegal (even if it's not morally wrong).

your best bet is to rip the hole dvd and encode it to a avi and split that.
use a program called autogk just google it.

DVD Shrink is your man - you can set a start and end frame time
so it will only rip what you want

I will recommend Xilisoft DVD Ripper for Windows, rips and splits, can rip protected too.
Or dvd::rip for Linux - also very good.
