    Hi all,

I'm new to the whole satellite thing and was looking for some help.

I'm really just looking for a setup that provides BBC1-4, ITV1-3, CH4?. - nothing too fancy - the analogue reception that I current have has been steadily deteriorating and NTL don't provide service in my area.

Here's how I see my choices:

    1) Get a basic Sky subscription for the minimum contract period (is it a year?) - I'm presuming that "standard installation" will do...

    2) Get a FTA box and hire an installer myself?
    - Due to the location and height of my house, I'm going to need to get an installer to install a dish on the roof - it's not a DIY job.

    - Would a Sky installer also be able to install a quad-LNB?

    - If I do cancel the Sky subscription, do I get to keep the box?

Otherwise, can anyone recommend an installer for a FTA setup which I would probably get in Maplin.

I'm in the Dun Laoire area

    Thanks in advance!

    Warren

if you are looking for only those channels you have listed then a Sky subscription is no good to you as it doesnt include Channel 4

    a FTV card on the other hand will get you BBC 1, 2, 3, 4 ITV 1, 2, 3, 4 Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky Three

a FTV card can be gotten quite cheaply on Ebay or if you know some in the UK

a Sky box is needed for this though

without a sky box you can get all the BBC's and ITV's free of charge as well as other free channels (doesnt include Channel 4, Channel 5, RTÉ, TV3 or TG4)

Thanks for the quick reply - I guess I'm still wondering about paying for Sky for the minimum period and then bailing out...

Also - still looking for names of a decent installer?

    Thanks!

If you are only getting it for the UK terresterial channels then a second hand box might be a better option. This is because a valid Irish SKY subscription card BLOCKS BBC and UTV appearing on the program list, you have to manually add them to other channels !
