I'm trying to get a Win ME machine hooked up to a wireless LAN, but I can't get the Netopia wireless usb adapter I got from Eircom to work. The SW bundled with it seems to be for 2000 and XP only. I've tried a few generic USB adapters off the web but to no avail. Plus I've manged to completely toast my graphics card drivers TWICE while removing and reinstalling the bundled SW. Anyone come across the issue before? The usb adapter is the Netopia SWL-2300U.

Its touch and go whether those netopias work on ME... what does it appear under on device manager when you install it? As far as I can remember, the 98 drivers and client are on the cd... Cant quite remember the path... You can install them manually but again, its been a while since I installed that netopia on ME.

    thx for the reply
It doesn't show up in Device Manager at all. When I plug it in, ME recognises it as a USB device and starts looking for the drivers. It doesn't find any, so it doesn't show up as installed at all. I think? Installed everything off the CD - no joy.

Have you ever used usb on ME? You probably have. - so that rules that out. well plugging in the adapter first was error number one... always install drivers first... Did you check in network adapters... or usb devices?

Just outa interest how far did the cd go? Did it finish?

Oh and which cd?? Only use the eircom cd if ya need the security setup... Do ya have an ethernet cable? Im pretty sure the actual 3d reach cd has ME/98 drivers!

    Yep I have.

The disk in this machine has just been reformatted, and windows installed.

Just removed the SW again and cold rebooted. I re-installed the SW and plugged in the adapter. ME recognised it and asked for drivers so I pointed it at the Netopia directory in Program Files - and now it's working.

As you said my mistake seems to have been plugging in the adapter before installing the SW.

    thx
