    A capital I.

"Internet" would be referring to it by a name, I suppose, and "internet" by a network type, but other than that...

    Ok, from the begining ...

A network is a collection of connected devices.

An internetwork is a collection of connected networks.

internet is a shortened version of internetwork.

The Internet is the huge internetwork that we all know and love.

    Regards,

    Liam

Internet is a proper noun -- i.e. it should always have a capital 'I'.

Not necessarily. An internet is a group of connected networks. The Internet is the largest example of an internet.
