If it is *really* HD, then it won't work on a Sky+
If it is only a preview of content for HD channels in normal resolution, then it is as pointless or usefull as the Sky Magasine.

id say the message is just up to make users "more aware"
they have films on after 5 same as 9 and 10 normal, but i cant see this working on our sky boxes, i wonder is there any SKY HD boxes out there that this is been transmitted to?
Btw: notice how it doesnt show up in the favourite channels.

What are the chances of Sky HD being rolled out in Ireland at the same time as in the UK?

seeing that she didn't know i just hope now they don't restrict these channels.

if they are true HD it wont make a difference to anyone with current Sky equipment if they block them or not as they wouldnt be viewable unless you had HD equipment capable of decoding Sky channels

Slim, but we live in hope. rumour has it (DS) that HD+ boxes will roll out in
April. Cost?? Between €499, €599 (rough guess) .

i think i'll wait for the price to drop a bit first before i get it. anyone know if the monthly subscription will go up too, i'd imagine it would.

Does anyone know how Sky source their movies for Sky Movies? I presume they're not the same source as retail DVDs, but they must come out of a similar process, are they in mpeg2 format? Do Sky decode/re-encode them in realtime on the DVB stream or is a pre-encoded stream broadcast?

How many movies will be available in HD format this year for Sky to broadcast? Are 720p/1080i versions of movies being made routinely by studios and just kept in a digital vault these days?

Another question relation to this and the HD box is what audio format is going to be used for surround sound? I believe blu-ray and HD-DVD are going to use new formats, but will sky continue to use DD5.1

Wait till next year and a HD screen will be:
    a) A sensible price
    b) Do true 1080 line. Most of the overpriced screens in shops with the weasely "HD ready" sticker only have native 720 lines. They resample.

    NTSC 480 line
    PAL / SECAM 576 line
Basic HD 720 line (good step up for 480 line countries, but for PAL countries, a similar step in quality as going from NTSC to PAL!)
Euro HD 1080 line. (A similar step in Quality for PAL viewers as 720 line is for NTSC viewers).

Sky HD receiver box supports all existing Digital Broadcast resolutions as well as 720 line and 1080 line HD, though possibly only in 50fps and 25fps. No confirmation if it does 60fps and 30fps.

By the time sensible affordable HD screens are in Ireland and UK, the Sky HD service will be out here.

The xbox 360 and the Sony PS3 both do 720 and 1080 line too.

Why buy a cludged crippled HD screen today that has only 720 native lines? (An "HD Ready" 720 line display will display 1080 line by resampling, which creates jaggies (artifacts) or blurs the detail).

you can only really take advantage of 1080 with screens bigger than 40in, like a projector at 110", 1080 would be perfect for, but for the majority of people who have got HD displays of between 26" and 40" 720 would do grand 1080 isnt really any more of a benefit.
    Would you not think?

By the looks of it from reading over on digitalspy, from what i gather the boxes will be available before the launch date which is April 1st, so it would make sence to have a HD box ready in customers houses ready for the big launch date, i myself plan on getting one, ive saved up since september knowing it will be about €500.
A DS news info is here http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds28621.html
