I bought a new computer and all was working fine until last night.
Was using the speaker from the monitor but when I turned it on, all I can hear now is a humming noise.
Tried it with a set of speakers and the same thing, no sound just a humming sound.
    Any ideas?

Try checking the volume control for your soundcard (or the inbuilt windows one) and make sure you haven't muted any of the main outputs (Main Volume, Wave volume etc.)
