Hello folks, im just about to buy my first DSLR and I was wondering if anyone here has experience using the above camera, I am a complete novice as regards photography and have only played around with a DSLR in a camera shop, i like the fact that the camera has a much nicer screen than the likes of the 350D and it also has anti-shake built into the body rather than the lens which i believe is a good thing, the lens that comes with it is meant to be fairly good for day to day use and i would be buying a zoom lens as well. So any advicer info is greatly appreciated and also if anyone knows of any other good camera shops in new york apart from b&h then id love to know about them as you can save a fortune by buying them there. So thanks in advance for any help or links etc,

    regards

    Thump

I've bought from B&H and never had a problem except from their phone staff being morons. I had a minolta slr and really liked it. If your looking for a sigma fisheye for it in the future give me a shout. I have one that I don't use anymore and would be willing to sell it.

thanks FX may well take you up on the offer when i find out what a fisheye lens is, it will be the end of march before i get to the states to pick up a camera so ill let you know after that if i get the 5D ;)

Didn't i see something about Konica Minolta ceasing the camera business , that would mean no more support , no new lenses , etc. Might make a cheap way to pick up a camera though.
However Sony are buying the SLR business , this may be Sony's way of getting into SLR's and they may well support the old cameras !!

ye i saw that as well but sigma still make KM compatible lenses and i would imagine that sony will keep the same lenses etc as a way of enticing new customers to use sony camera bodies and seing as sony make very few of their own lenses most are Zeiss i imagine it will continue in that vein

You could buy it here. Save a few bob and have it ready to go when you hit the usa. I've bought from them before and would recomment. You may be caught for duty but they will mark the price down so it wont be too much.

Give some consideration to the Nikon D50 as an alternative. Seems to be reviewing better than the konica.

    Hi Guys,

I just came now to the Minolta dSLR-gang... :)
With a new 5D. I love it! (the LCD is a big shiiit, but anything other is excellent.
Now I looking for lenses (tele), filters, tripod, etc...

I can be happy, if we can keep this topic up2date.

You buy from this shower V? I saw a nice Nikon mount Zeiss that I wouldn't mind sticking on me Canon ;)

No but I know someone that has and no problems tax or otherwise but as you say yourself, we know not the day nor the hour.

Cheers Valentia, I'll go for the 85 ƒ1.2 Canon anyway after a bit of research.
