    Hi all,
I will need to get a train from Prague to Vienna in July.
Some questions I would like answered please. :)

Should I book online before I go or is it not needed?
If I did book what sites are good? RailEurope seems the most obvious but the site seems cluttered and slow.

Also, is the euro accepted throughout Prague or do I need some Czech currency?

    Thanks.

You'll need Czech money. It's probably cheaper to buy it in Prague and it shouldn't a problem buying it at the last minute.

Check www.oebb.at for times. There's probably a Czech version of that too but that's the one I know.

 Getting a train from prague to vienna is one of my most frustrating travel experiences ever! But it needn't be :)

For starters, we went to the wrong train station - what I think was the main train station was near where we were staying, so thought it'd be grand to just pop down there on the morning and we'd be sorted (already had train times so that was organised, ended up missing them though ).

There's actually a train station - to the north of the city if I remember right - where this kind of journey will depart from. If you get the correct name of the station you should be fine.

At the original main station we went to we encountered serious language difficulties and severe lack of information, even though there was an english counter it took a long time before we realised we were in the wrong place.

After that our planning had gone out the window, we were hungover, it was too warm and we were wrecked from several days of wrecking ourselves. Hopefully with this warning you should be able to avoid all that :) Once on the train things were fine - it was a reasonable class of a vehicle.

As Imposter says, buying it on the day should be fine and use czech currency.

Vienna is called Wein.. that could help in Prague.

I was interrailing so I only had to book reservations for a sleeping carriage. Go early in your time in Prague to guarantee a spot as there is a lot of demand in the summer. We booked the reservations in the main train station there was a sign to it... not sure if you book actual tickets in the same place. The guy spoke English. Also, ask what platform the train departs from.

    It's around a 7 to 8 hour journey.

You will need Czech currency which is easily acquired from the many ATM's about the place.

7 or 8 hour journey? Most places I looked seem to be about 4 or 5 hours. Unless you went via somewhere else

Yeh I just checked the timetables and it said 4 to 5 hours. We must have got a slow train or something.

EDIT: Check the train at 23:05 leaving Prague it takes 6 hours 53 mins to get to Vienna... thats the one we got.
