more information required as to why it would be the next big thing, in 200 words or less.....

    Well...

.. here's the IMDB page so go nuts!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,431 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Watched the first 2 episodes of the short 6 episode series and it's actually very good... very funny satire!

Sorta reminds me of another under-rated comedy, 'Entourage' which is quite big in the States but never took off over here.

Anyways, i've seen comparisons of the show to an adult 'Seinfeld'. Definantly don't know why - nothing like 'Seinfeld' but definantly quite adult in the topics it covers (the first two episodes covering
    racism
    and
    abortion
    ).

Still very much worth a look!

Anyone take my recommendation and check this out yet then?

C'mon.. i need to discuss the upcoming second season with someone on here!

Haven't seen it yet, but apparently there will be an episode on the benefits of taking crack...

I just saw the episode with the gun. Thought it was very funny and entertaining. Not something Id set the planner for but definately worth a watch. When the guy came to pick up the rent that was classic. The part on the ad is brilliant also when on finding out he has a kid the guy says "I just wish I could go back and do the right thing", Barmaid "What like be there for him", Guy "No, get an abortion":D

Anyone watching the new series of this? Just 4 episodes in with 2 episodes last week and 2 this week.

    Fantastic stuff!

The benefits of taking crack episode Gandhi mentioned aired last night!

GO GET THIS SHOW NOW... so i can discuss it with someone!

Caught some of the 1st series on Bravo on Sky. Didn't really think much of it, but then again I wasn't fully watching it.

it looks good, you never mentioned that it features Da Vito. I'm on it.

Just started to watch this, its very good, they really seem to be pushing on what you can get away with in a comedy show, the first episode i saw was the the one where the guy was pissed off he didnt get molested by his gym teacher when younger!!
Didnt like this episode so much, but the shows following that have been great in my opinion.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,431 ✭✭✭✭Basq

The 'Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom' episode last week was a sheer brillance from start to finish...

.. more people should be watching this! :(

For those who want a taster.. here's a FX produced 'Best of Season One' clip sequence but there's plenty more where this came from.. the show is without doubt one of the best comedies around right now (along with '..Earl').

I first heard of this when it was being touted as being on a par with Curb Your Enthusiasm.

    It's not.

It is better than many, but hardly a classic. But, taste is personal - I would watch a 2nd series of Weeds and many think it's pants.

Steroids / Fight Club episode last week was fantastic! :D

Heven't gotten around to watch a full episode, but it does look good. The radio adverts suggest it to be Seinfeld on crack.

I am also a very big fan of Entourage. Very funny show. But for me personally, the best show on TV in the States is Rescue Me with Denis Leary. It has comedy, drama and action. Leary is up for an Emmy this year for it.

Oh, and another intersting tidbit of information regading Always Sunny in Philly: The guy who created the show made the pilot with a webcam and had his friends do the acting. Some producer got a glimpse of the video and loved the show, and so it was born.

DeVito only joined up for this last season. He was a huge fan of the show and asked to become a member. Pretty cool stuff.

i started watching this on FX on thursdays at 10pm (i'm in new york atm), and its asolutly brilliant. its some of the funniest tv i've seen in quite a while. the steroids episode was great, and also when dennis and his sister got hooked on crack. great stuff, and everyone should watch it...one thing though, is this the 2nd season thats showing now? cause i had never even heard of it before it started a few weeks ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

saw some clips on myspace (yes, i know...) when devito interviewed mike patton, and it definitely took my fancy.

anyone know if it'll get shown over here, or will i have to torrent it?

Yeah.. that's the second season you're watching.

The first season was 6 episodes long and the second season will apparently be at least 13 episodes long.
anyone know if it'll get shown over here, or will i have to torrent it?
Well.. they've already shown (and repeated at least once) the first series on Bravo a month or two back. And a quick search on DigiGuide reveals it's not in the current schedule.

Comic gold.... it's a real shame more people aren't watching it, as it's doing quite well in the States (well.. as well as it could on FX)!

Too lazy to check through the thread to see if anyone's mentioned this already, but you can buy episodes from iTunes at $1.99 a pop. Quality's not bad for watching on a PC, though
I presume it's desgined for the video iPod.

They have one or two short clips for free if you want to check out the quality.

Ive been watching all of this so far and Im addicted, its quality!! I just saw the episode where Dee and Charlie get hooked on anphetamines[sp?] and I swear, I haven't laughed as much in ages!
The montage scene with the Karate Kid song ("Your the best...around, nothings gonna ever keep you down" :)) had to be the second best use of that song ever, after that brilliant episode of South Park!

I finished season 1 last night and enjoyed it. Its not the funniest thing I have ever seen though.... its amusing, with one or two laugh out loud bits per show.

From comments on this thread, it looks like season 2 might step it up a notch.... :)

just watched a few of these. all great.
i particularly liked the abortion one but the gay bar episode was the best so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 900 ✭✭✭cosgrove80

Decided to check this out and I really enjoyed it.

It's a lot darker than I expected with episode themes covering
    abortion, child abuse & nazis
    which may offend some.

Having morally ambiguous characters, makes a nice change and gives the show a slight Seinfeldesque quality.

Not a huge fan of DeVito in the second season. He just seems too big a star to be able to play a character in a show like this.

    Agree with you there!

He's had one or two decent moments... but doesn't hold any comic weight compared to the genius that is Charlie Kelly!

Just watched the series finale last night, its such a great show! the gay bar one was on also after!! I nearly cried it was so funny. very few episodes in the a full session though! I want more episodes!!

Ye, what a genious. Danny devito completly over acts, which is hard to do in such an over the top show. The first series just blew me away though, especially seen as how i stumbled on by luck on bravo. Haven't loved an american comedy this much in a long time.

    Woot.. third season confirmed!

    And obligatory cheer!

    brilliant

Danny DeVito has committed to continue as a series regular for all subsequent seasons.
Ah well, can't have everything. Good news all the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭Gandhi

A couple more articles on the season renewal:

    http://theilladelph.blogspot.com/2006/11/still-always-sunny-in-philadelphia.html

    http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/15954762.htm

I had heard the creators were not happy initially that Danny DeVito joined the cast, but FX told them if a guy like DeVito wants in, he is in. Don't know if they have warmed to him yet or not. I don't think they need him in every episode. Every fourth or fifth (like those masters of social grace, the McPoyle brothers) would be plenty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,514 ✭✭✭Rollo Tamasi

ah devito is class in it but maybe he is in too many shows,
has the first air date of 'Denis gets a Puppy' been confirmed yet?
