    Hey,

I'm headin down to the Galway races this year. Goin down for the Fri, Sat & Sun. I wouldn't mind getting down for ladies day on Thur aswell.

I realise the quality of the races isn't great in Galway but I was just wondering if I could get some feedback from anyone who has been down before, as to what it is like? I've heard a lot of good reports...

As there will be so many at it, whats it like for viewing the races/placing bets?

Is it worth going down for the Thursday or will Fri, Sat, Sun do?

Going to be heading out at night also, I presume as Galway only has a few niteclubs they are prob gonna packed out.. so prob just stick to the pubs??

Can you elaborate on what you mean by this?

I've been to Galway before on numerous occasions and the quality of the majority of races has been excellent. You might not always have the oppurtunity to have quality horses in each and every race, but you certaintly don't need quality horses to have quality racing.

Ah, I just meant that the quality of the horses sometimes isn't as good as you would expect for a festival of this size but I am looking forward to and expecting to see some great races, otherwise I wouldn't be going down :D

I think i'll be heading down the Monday, just for the day,
Can anyone recommend a decent boozer to head after

Bluetonic surely you realise that the Galway Festval hasn't the best quality racing in the world. Just check how many handicaps there are compared to grade / group 1's

OK. My first time to the Ballybrit was to see the Pope. I have gone to the Galway Races every year since. The facilities are great; Toilets, Views of the Track, Food, Drink, Bookmakers, Tote, Parade Ring Views and its easy/quick to get into and out of.
The best way to get to/from the track is by Bus from the City Centre. The Guards do give them the right of way whenever they see them.
Bring plenty off cash because the queues for the ATMs do be long.
When heading into town at nightime go to an Off License; buy a few bottles of Bud and head for Quay St.. Once in Quay St. open your Bud and drink away because it will take you about 30 minutes to get through the crowd, into a pub and get a drink. By the time you get out on the street where all the craic is you need another drink hence just by loads in the Off License. There will be loads of Guards around but they won't bother you because they have been directing buses all day and were probably ahead of you in the queue in the Off License.
Galway is the best place to be that week of the year. Good Luck.

Most of the racing is pretty cack actually. But it's some week alright. Galway turns into Amsterdam for one week only...

The Skeff in Eyre Sq great place during race week. Good chance you'll see some big names there. I should get a few good tips usually do.:D

The locals certainly know how to cash in on the festival anyway. We've just booked a 4 bed house for the week for €1000.

We've one twin-room spare for a bargain €250 for the week if anyone's interested??

It's a bit too early. There'll be 5 day declarations on the 26th. I've seen 7 day decs on www.irish-racing.com for some meetings so keep and eye there from early next week.
