BACKLASH // Optimo (JD Twitch) // Kill The DJ/Sub Club Glasgow...
Rogue, 64 Dame Street. Doors 11pm, Admission is 10eu

Backlash presents the first visit to Rogue of by far our most popular international guests.
This time its Keith McIvor who pays us a visit, recording under various monikers including
Optimo, JD Twitch and more recently has received a lot of attention with his 'Betty Botox'
    re-edits project.

Optimo combine everything from driving techno to northern soul, New York post punk to
industrial stomp. Those who's bought there 'Kill the DJ' & 'Psyche Out' will testify the genius
is not purely the tracks the play but the way they combine them to such effect.

While McIvor DJs, Wilkes would diligently tap at a laptop computer by his side, sampling
and remixing records as they play. On one occasion, the duo hung microphones over the
dancefloor, sampled Optimo's crowd singing along to Technotronic's old rave hit 'Pump
Up the Jam,' and played it back to them: the crowd ended up dancing to themselves!

Word spread like wildfire, across Europe and around the world. People heard stories of
how employers in Glasgow were making employees sign waivers promising not to go to
Optimo on Sunday nights. Glaswegians told their friends in London and Dublin and New
York about the twisted ****ed up magic of Optimo but those who hadn’t been couldn’t
pigeonhole Optimo anymore than those who had.

But it was their 'How to Kill The DJ' & 'Psyche Out' mixes has given non Glaswegians just a
taste of what Optimo is like. Obscure disco sits next to industrial, the Rapture segue into
screaming techno, Gang of Four are mixed with a choir of school children singing the Beach
Boys. It’s all part of the Optimo experience, which promises to be one of the highlights of the
year at Backlash. Get there early to avoid getting there late.
