Hope this is ok to post here! I had my appendix taken out last Tuesday, got out of the hospital on Thursday. Almost healed up but just wondering how long I should leave it before having a drink again? I'm just on paracetemol so I'm not on any uber painkiller medication. Random question I know, but better safe than sorry and all that jazz

AFAIK it's against Boards rules to seek medical advice here.

Seconded. OP, you could end up back in hospital if this lot gave you advice, especially in AH.:) Look after yourself now. Are you hurting at all?

It took me almost 3 weeks to recover from my operation when I got my appendix out. I wouldn't advise it, but talk to your doctor.

If this is the case sorry.

I'm grand now I was pretty lucky and managed to avoid any of the severe pain that usually comes with appendicitis. Out and about without too much trouble but still sore enough from the operation.

How did yours come about? Did you end up goin into hospital when the pain got unbearable or did you know it was appendicitis and headed in early?

Edit: I think I'll be sensible for a few more days, or at least for tonight til I speak to the doctor:(

I was in bits, literally couldn't move. Went in to the ER and they said that if I'd left it till morning they would have exploded. I had been to my doctor and he said it was a stomach ache..... fúcking idiot.

What did it for me was that even though the pain was fairly mild it was concentrated in very specific area which I googled and saw that thats what it probably was.

it's only your appendix. it's not like you needed it anyway.

go out and have a few drinks. you'll be hammered fairly quickly.

Jaysus, would it kill you not to drink alchohol for a week or two after a major operation! "Yeah, like I had an operation the day before yesterday and I was wondering if it would be safe to go on the batter tomorrow night like. FFS!

Are you an alco or wha! :D

Now if you are wondering whether a glass of wine with dinner was ok, then thats a totally different ball game but you didn't specify.

Ask your doctor, but alchol should not be taken when on any medication, especially paracetamol.

In the current weather you're likely to get dehydrated more readily, and we all know Alcohol is a diuretic.

I'd keep off the sause for a quite a while.

Major surgery on digestives system + alcoholic which is essentlally is a poison. Suck it up and drink the sparkling water. Best case senario you get a lil sick, worst case scenario You wake up after emergency surgery with a Consultant and fifty med students staring at your spectic stitches after they've removed part of bowel in a "when idiots go wrong" post op special.
