    Hi,
Want to do some electrical work, but alarm bell outside keeps going off when I switch off mains. This has never happened before. Would this be a fault with alarm battery?

I'd imagine its a safety measure, what good would the alarm be if people could just cut the power to the house.
Can you switch off power than enter alarm code to turn off bell, thats how mine works

Has never happened before when I've switched off power. Have already tried doing what you said, but to no avail. Panel is not displaying, internal siren is not going off, only the bell box is sounding.

More than likely yes but your system should be showing a batt fault.

The battery in the panel is dead, replacing it will solve the problem

Sorry, second question - The panel battery is dead - is there a second battery in the bell box, and do these have to be replaced as well?

Just replace the panel battery, the battery in the bell box has nothing to do with it
