either way it had a good run

and everyone going around quoting it thinking they are funny

Scrubs could have been fantastic but in the end it was only mediocre. I could never get over the moral message in every episode and the "and then I realised..." voice over.

That's a shame - it's one of the best comedies currently airing, with only a handful of others in the same league. If it must go though, please let it go out with proper resolutions for characters and not leave us hanging.

And no, I don't really think it should go on without Dorian.

Yeah he was starting to freak me out to be honest.

Oh and I'm happy about it because now there's a chance it can be replaced by something decent.

they'll have to finish it, it makes so many other characters redundant, turk still does at leat 33% of his scenes with JD as does Elliot and Cox not to mention he's the Janitors Raison D'etre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,961 ✭✭✭trout

As the 'stars' on this series faded, The Janitor just gets better and better.

I don't think the whole Janitor / Bungee seam has been tapped out yet.:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,807 ✭✭✭chump

Ah the new series has dipped quite considerably from the first. Gone off it tbh :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,438 ✭✭✭Morgans

Really liked the first three seasons but when they convinced the main players to give it one more go before last season, its obvious, to me in any case, that its lost its mojo, and no-one's heart looked to be in it. I think the sense of humour that I enjoyed has evaporated and it just looked as if they (the writers) were trying to remember what made it funny in the first place. The bit part characters that made it funny (janitor, ted, Dr Kelso) just seemed to be tired. I'd prefer if they never came back for the last season, and I think its a shame that its still going.

I was of the opinion that it should have ended around season 3. The first 2 seasons were great, but it seriously dipped after that. The humour felt forced, repetitive, clumsy and eventually just stupid. Hopefully this is the end and it'll have one final spurt of quality.

    Agree, totally.

It still has funny moments but is nowhere near it's best anymore.

If they continue without him it'll be a total disaster. I wouldn't bet against that happening either. The greed obsessed studios and networks always try to run successful series far beyond their best, as long as there is money in it the name will continue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,333 ✭✭✭Cake Fiend

The best comedy series are put to rest before they get old, repetetive and boring. Scrubs could have been in this category had it been knocked off after Season 3, but unfortunately, it being created by an American company, it got caned until all the humour left it. I remember laughing out loud every few minutes during the first couple of seasons. Later episodes rarely get a smile.

having scrubs without dorian is like having the simpsons without a funny homer.

so to reword that, having scrubs without dorian is like watching any of the new simpsons, which of course we don't need anymore shows like that.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOO

Itll have to end, a real pity, THE best show atm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Such a pity. Probably the best comedy of the last few years and it is still funny. Last season was just as good as the early seasons. Even if it did dip a bit at times,it still managed to be consistantly funny unlike the Simpsons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

pitty but tbh i like cox and the janitor and kelso the best so i dont care if it goes on with dorian

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,206 ✭✭✭gustavo

cant really see how it would go on without Braff it pretty much is his show with 90% of the tales being told from his point of view

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

The show is still decent but I've found it has been slipping the last 2 seasons. It'd be nice to end it before it turns to mush.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭Gandhi

It went to crap once they started softening Cox's image, and making him more realistic. It actually improved towards the end once they made him a complete psycho again.

Of course there was never enough of The Todd...

Even with JD it hadn't been renewed for a proper run. The studio asked that a limited number be made and said they might try and fit it in, presumably if something else got cancelled half way through the year. He's not exactly leaving a show with much of a future, just making the best of his exit from an already dead show

Only saw this thread now.. very sad really!

Always been a massive fan of 'Scrubs' but i sincerally hope they don't continue without Braff. Not a whole lotta point - sure, Johnny C and Neil Flynn are excellent but Braff was always the star of the show.

But recent episodes have really been in the range of mediocre to decent.. with the episode "My Lunch" last season being a high-point in the season in terms of acting from John C McGinley and Zach Braff.

Anyways.. read on Braff's website that they started filming for the upcoming season in the last week or so planned for a January 2007 airing.

I'll be sad to see it go but not entirely surprised either. I think it's gone steadily downhill in recent seasons (wasn't a big fan of season 4 at all). Although having said that, while season 5 has been hit and miss, there have been some terrific episodes imo. The most recent episode, (for rte viewers anyway) "My Lunch" was excellent. I'm looking forward to tonight's follow-up.

Season 5 got off to an abysmal start. It picked up somewhat in the later episodes, and really got going in the final few - bit late though, in my opinion, was overall opinion of Season 5 would not be a good one.

Regarding going on without JD - sure, bad idea, but it IS possible in my opinion - remember the episode where the Janitor puts JD in the reservoir for the day and so he doesn't feature? I actually didn't truly realise he was missing until the very end when the janitor lets him out and I kinda went...oh yeah, jeez forgot about that.

Obviously it'd be harder to pull that off on a full time basis but it might be worth a try.

Does anyone know why Scrubs isn't on RTE tonight?? My initial reaction was that last week was the season finale, but not according to an episode guide I just checked. Anyone know?

I've got the feeling when watching season 5 that they've been sidelining JD in a lot of the episodes, making the other main characters carry a lot more of the storytelling, possibly in preparation for Braff's departure...

Eh no - they just hate Scrubs. It's a load of sh*te IMO. It's like ER meets Ally McBeal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

My Deja Vu is absolutely terrible - so pointless and literally, taking from title, its a re-hash of events from previous episodes more or less. Not that its the nature of the episode, just the way in which its done, it truly is pointless and just plain boring.

Agreed about the last couple of series not being as funny as the earlier ones...

It'll be sad, cos I love the show, but I think it should end rather than continue on without Braff.

Typical RTE they are showing another repeat of Father Ted which by the way is overated to the NTH degree. On the other hand the fresh, innovative Scrubs is just kicked around with only 4 episodes remaining.

    ** snicker **

    [my 2 cents]

I'm sorry but as a huge fan of 'Scrubs', i need to admit that even in my opinion as a huge fan the show is far from "innovative" anymore. You can almost plan the episode out in your head in the more recent series.. with at least 3 instances of JD falling over and making the inevitable "eeeeeeyyyyyy.." sound!

'Father Ted' while it had shaky moments (the Christmas episode and one or two poor episodes in the 3rd series) will still remain one of the freshest (and still entertaining on numerous viewings) comedies in my eyes (alongside 'The Office' which is the only comedy to have in my opinion not one poor episode in it's entire duration)

Scrubs - Series 1 and 2 (and flashes of Series 3) was some of the funniest TV of recent years. But recently have certainly slipped to a very average level - with Braff, Flynn and McGinley having the only characters worth their salt anymore.

    [/my 2 cents]

    RTE sucks!

Why do they keep bumping off scrubs? Scrubs is the only reason I have been watching RTE lately ... Oh and Lost is another reason.
What is the point in not finishing a season with only 4 episodes left .. and replacing it with a crappy drama.. What happened to Monday nights of comedy.
And they picked a bad time to push it off for six weeks (I am saying six weeks, because whatever replaced it is a 6 part drama) There was only four more episodes left!
I have been watching Scrubs from the start.. very first one on Sky 1. But the Sky cancelled new episodes and I was pretty pissed at them, and when I found out RTE was showing it, I kinda said "Wow! so our country doesn't have a crappy station after all".
But I take that back now. RTE sucks, it should stick to a proper schedule.

    Jake.

I really think they shouldn't have bothered bringing Scrubs back this year,or even last year. I think the episode at the end of season 3 where JD and Elliott get together and he suddenly realises he doesn't want her was a real 'jump the shark" moment. He had been pining for her since the middle of season 2 and then because Dani told him he wouldn't really want her if he got her, he suddenly doesn't want her?

It was so completely contrived, and it was right after they had Dani change from a likable character who is upset by the realisation that her boyfriend is actually in love with Elliott, into a crazy bitch.

Scrubs was good because even though it had crazy situations, it also had real characters, who learned and developed and grew. Then halfway through the third season they started to change peoples personality for no reason at all.
