I bought a Sony Viao FE21 2 weeks ago, does anybody know if the battery in this could be a fire risk? As far as I am aware it is only sony batteries in Dell machines, but just wanna be sure!!

Dell use Sony batteries but if you want to be sure then contact Sony Ireland they will tell you why they don't have to recall their batteries but others (Apple and Dell) do. This is going to cost Sony an arm and a leg to replace them all!

Sony Ireland would most likely redirect you to VAIO-Link:
Phone: http://www.vaio-link.com/contacts/contacts.asp?l=en&tp=vaio&cm=phone&cc=IE (Heh. I just noticed they now have a premium rate number. Best go with e-Support)

With Sony : "There are no known issues." pssshyah.

    Nokia tried that too,
and started putting holograms on their batteries so you would know it was a genuine Nokia. And guess what happened to their batteries next..

It would appear that Sony kept the good ones for their own laptops so the rumour mill would have us to believe,I reckon you should be ok with a new enough laptop as it seems they have known about these battery problems for some time now.I'd be more worried about thst chip pan in the kitchen.....
