Commenting on other people's play

I just cant understand it. There always seems to be one player at the table in cash games (live) who feels the need to comment on how you played your hand wrond "can't believe you raised from the small blind with ace queen" etc.. These type of players get on my nerves and i find that alot of the time these self professed pros can be losing players themselves. Am i wrong??? Should I just play by the book all the time?? Problem is, i find this to be no fun. Also i find that when i raise with these marginal hands from questionable positions if i hit, especially in omaha, i claim the biggest pots!!! Is it me that is wrong? And what are your opinions on these type of players at your tables???

There was a guy at my table last week sitting next to me who was giving me advice on hands, but he was talking quietly just to me, and offering constructive advice. I still felt a little uppity kind of like "hey I don't need your charity man, I'm the greatest player at this table!"

But it was a hell of a lot nicer than some asshat loudly announcing their disgust at how you could possibly consider calling that bet when you're a 49% dog.

It's even worse when there's two of them, and they're speaking to each other about every hand...
And especially anyone who chastises a fish/noob/whatever should be banned for life...from...poker.

people play such bad poker though, its almost criminal to let some people go un-abused.

As Oscar says though, 'don't tap the aquarium'. If they're bad you want them to continue to play badly and don't want to scare them away from the game, which is what happens. Nothing annoys me more than some muppet making comments like this. Not out of sympathy for the bad player, but because it's either going to make him better or scare him away from the table.

I like to abuse winning players, obv not the fish. I told some american guy earlier that I hoped some of his friends or family would die in iraq. Worked a treat! (allthough I got my chat banned for a while :( )

Hector, from reading board this morning I can see that you have had a long night. Now would be a good time to go to bed.

But im winning! Ive had a bad few days and have managed in the last few hours, playing only one table, to make back everything I lost and am nearly up enough to buy myself a new LCD moniter! My posts havent been that bad have they? Im playing very well, which is vstrange considering how long its been since ive got some sleep.

I didnt really hope that guys family had died in iraq, we got in a stupid argument after I won some meaningless hand. He got it into his head that I was gay and kept going on and on about it, so I let him have the full force of my wrath. I hate stupid people who are homophobic almost as much as beggars.

Either you are missing the humour in Spiritus' post or else I am missing you getting his humour, and missing the humour in your reply.

    It is Monday after all.

You should always let a bad player know how bad he played a hand, that way they will want to improve their game and then it will be tougher in the future to get their chips.

    It makes sense

My thinking exactly - live poker should be fun, people who play by the book are often easy pickings

btw: never tell someone how bad they played - ignorance is bliss

I have decided to wear my MP3 player fulltime at the cash tables now. This is due to the amount of abuse i'm getting lately for playing MY cards the way I want with MY money...it's gone to the stage that I can't listen to the ****e anymore.

..altho i do have the volume low - i think its important to hear as well as see what going on around me. It just helps me ignore the bs remarks.
