Good God, but you guys spend/buy a lot! I'm going to print out this entire conversation just to show my wife!

This year, I acquired a rather nice Laney VC15 and a Sansamp TriAC. The Laney is excellent, and has me thinking about their bigger amps. I'm seriously thinking of downsizing from my head (JTM45) and two 2x12"s (Vintage 30s in one, GT75s in the other) to a 30w or 50w 1x12" or 2x12" combo...

Got rid of: nothing as yet.

To get rid of (maybe!): Sansamp TriAC (really great sounds; but I just don't need it); early '70s 100w Laney Klipp; both of the aforesaid 2x12"s; and my beloved but impractical Marshall JTM45 reissue.

Got a new Gibson STD Faded Cheery Burst (Bit of a mouthful that)LP, and an ENGL 2X12 Cab.

I probably wont get it before the new year, but i have a Mesa/Boogie 20/20 poweramp on the way, first part of my new rig.

Sold my trusty old Mesa combo earlier on in the year, that was a great bit of kit. I sold my marshall 4x12 as well, forgot about that. Was just too big for what i need.

Bought a microcube also, forgot about that as well.

This year I tried to buy a Gretsch and failed. Stupid German bastards.
I did buy a 52RI CIJ Telecaster with a Bigsby offa Savman though, sweet little rock 'n' roller. I'll post pics when I get my Gretsch. Or should I say if? It's been ridiculously difficult as Gretsch are reworking their catalogue. Perhaps it'll be better to wait til after the NAMM...

I also bought a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 offa Ned_Zepplin. Seriously good pedal.

Don't think I bought anything else really.. Can't think of anything anyway.

Nemisis, what's your opinion on the LP Faded. What's the top like? What's playability like?

I got the Faded Tobacco and I am not at all keen on the top! I'm still undecided on the playability but I am getting to like it more and more. However it sounds fantastic (wchich I guess is the main thing!)

It's excellent, apart from the fairly big flaw that it seems to pick up hum from my monitor. I think it's something to do with the bar being much stronger than the screws, and the pickup is supposed to sound very different depending on which way the bar is facing.

I don't really mind as I'll be getting a new LCD monitor, and getting rid of the CRT, so that'll top the problem. But if you do have an older monitor, it could drive you crazy.

Got a Boss DD-5 and of course I finally paid for my G&L ASAT Deluxe semi hollow complete with Ducans and splittable bridge pickup

I'm looking for a 59 Spec, the classic one. Not so into the DC ones really.

I'll get it.. don't you worry. I've given up on buying online. My Dad is going to the states in Jan so he says he'll try to pick one up there.

Doesn't sound like much of a humbucker then. Have you checked it was wired in correctly? One coil being magnetically stronger than another shouldn't mean you get hum like that. It might be running as a single coil.

    Doctor J wrote:

Nah, it's nothing to do with the wiring at all, a lot of people noticed this with the D-Sonic, it's a flaw with the pickup itself. It's more prone to noise than any other DiMarzio humbucker.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Hmmm... a humbucker that doesn't buck hum, eh? Perhaps you should call it a dual-coil pickup then :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,117 ✭✭✭Eoin Madsen

Even a humbucker will pick up noise from a CRT. That's pretty normal in my experience. There's just no way to competely stop a bloody huge electrical field from interfering with a magnetic pickup. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

Yup, I have an SSH Ibanez and while the singles hum alot around the old CRT, the humbucker does hum but not as loud

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Nobody is claiming absolute silence here chaps, what I gather from what KH is saying is that this particular pickup is noticably more prone to noise than his other pickups of a dual coil humbucking design ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Killaqueen!!!
