    "Lunch tomorrow? Any suggestions."

That is a text I got over Christmas
It wasn't a number I had stored in my phone.

What do you do? Reply or ignore?

It could be a wrong number, a mate could have gotten a new phone, it could be a weirdo, but you've no idea.

    I replied "who's this?"

The reply is a one word answer: "$$$$$" (where $$$$$ is the persons name, a male)

I know 3 people with the name $$$$$, but find it hard to think any one of them would text me such a thing.

Now, I'm quite curious to see if I know this person, but at the same time, I think if I did know the person they'd have added a bit more detail about themselves.
On the other hand, if I do know the person, it'll seem rude now if I ignore them, after they think they've made it clear to me who they are.

    What'd I do?
I ignored the second text. I don't want to get into a text conversation with a possible weirdo stranger & I'm out shopping with my bf beside me.

I've deleted the messages, I don't have the number saved, yet I'm still curious to know who was behind the texts, was it a mistaken number, is it someone taking the p!ss, was it genuine, was it a secret admirer who I possibly know but was too drunk to remember (& by that I don't mean I cheated on my bf or anything like that, but maybe politely chatted to)

What would you have done? Or would you have cared?

I would have followed my text with a phone call to the mysterious texter. That is all!

You have a boyfriend, why would you care about a secret admirer? Why even create this thread? You did the right thing by ignoring it, now let it go and give your bf a big ginormous kiss this evening.

Its a bit like wanting to know whats on TV, yet you snipped the plug off. If you really wanted to know then you should have rung or texted back, as it is any link is now gone so just go about your life as normal, I'm sure you'll get over it.

Well, according to Casino Royale, you should be able to hook your phone up to a laptop and get the exact coordinates of the sender. Then you need to go to that place, find a security camera that was pointing in that direction, make a diversion, sneak into the security room and play back the footage of the time of the text, thus giving you the identity of the sender.

Failing that, a phone call would do.

Ah, he gets them anyway!!!!:) But I'll make sure to give him extra just cos you said so, yum!!

No, I don't care about a secret admirer at all.
It's just curiosity & al that.

My bf just keeps teasing me bout my bit on the side & it just keeps it in my head & makes me wonder who it was?

& possibly, what row have I caused!!:D If it was a mistake, but the texter thinks he text the right person, but they were too rude to reply & accept the lunch invitation, then oops!!!

When I was 17/18 I used to play the game with people who'd randomly text me, but since then if there's a number I don't recognise I just ring it immediately and find out who it is.

Got a 'Merry Crimbo' text on the 23rd from an unknown number, and I rang it..

Me: Hi, just wondering who this is, I've just received a text from your number.
Random: Wha? Wharra ya bleedin talkin abowt? I didn't send no text messages!
Me: Okidokey then Anto, Merry Christmas to you too!

Point is, the quicker you ring and speak to the randommer, the quicker the mystery is solved :)

I would've just texted them again and asked them their last name.

If you deleted their texts, you might still have their number in your "sent items" folder, you could text or ring them from that

To "Lunch tomorrow? Any suggestions." I would have replied, "Toasted turkey and cheese on hearty Italian and a large cappuccino. What do you think I should have?". But then, I reply to randomers who text me. Like Nicole from Limerick...

To me, the original text sounds like someone out shopping asking somebody what to bring home for lunch tomorrow.

Its because you and the missus are celebrities now, you should expect plenty of random texts/calls :p

OT: Have gotten plenty of texts and calls from random numbers, most of the calls from unknown numbers I generally ignore, usually I'll just text a while later and ask "Missed your call at X am/pm, who is this?". Random texts however, the odd time I'll play along with them and see how much info about themselves I can get, other times I'll just ignore them or write back saying they've got the wrong number.

Not much fun but I'm not wasting my credit on what could be a nut case or an ugly girl.

Ignore it dear. Some people would get into giving you a good time for vain reasons. If the sender is serious then he'd give the proper information without hanging you up.

Amen to that. I used to text randomers (god bless Meteor...), and then slowly came around to the fact that everybody is prettier when you can't see them.
