    Hi,

We've our main work e-mail address, which has been there for about 2 years+ at this stage. It has steadily been accumulating a bit of spam and then when I can back in after Christmas it had 2651 crap e-mails in the inbox. Its now impossible for me to see what are good and what are crap e-mails :(

I'm here in the office on my own. We have no techie guy with our company. I need to get rid of spam e-mails in bulk. I need to get a proper spam filter hooked up to that work e-mail.

Its Microsoft Outlook Express 2003. Can someone help please? There is no option for me to select several e-mails and delete them.

Yes you do. Ctrl + click
    or
Click 1st mail then Shift + Click on a mail below. All in between will be selected.
    or
    A combination of both.

Take on a transition year work experience student or something, you pay them nothing and they can work!;)
    Let them sift through it

Ifs its only 1 email address for your company just get some simple Anti Spam software set up on your PC/Server.

You just need to delete the spam as they come in 2651 emails is not alot to go through even for a once off.

Once you have that down to a resonable working order, structure your email system so that once you read an email its placed into the relevant folder or place it yourself manually. The logic is that first off everything is in its relevant folder so its easier to search for an email also you will then be able to see what is Spam and what isn't. Deleting Spam on a daily basis shouldn't pose any problem to you.

He still has the problem of having to actually DOWNLOAD all that crap!! Think of the bandwith!!!
You could get yourself a hardware firewall (assuming you use broadband) that has a spam filter built in. Some i think you can just configure and hope for the best... others have a yearly service so the firewall gets updates of spam tactics and domains etc. It will block them before you download them.

Or you coudl get a monthly service such as the eircom one if you use an eircom domain... or if on hosting 365 they have one.. it was netriplex but now its a better one.. cant think of the name. Anyway thats a monthly charge but its that or use magic... and i think the latter is only in books and movies :D
Oh you could use an email server software such as Mdaemon Pro with the spam filter built in it.. will cost of course but there might be free ones out there.

The transition year student idea is good though.

A cheap work a round (by cheap of course i mean free! :D) is you could set up a gmail account for your business and forward all the incoming mail to the gmail account. Gmail has a pretty good spam filter that catch's most spam messages. You would then need to enable pop on the gmail account to enable outlook to download the messages.

Or you could set up Google App's for your domain, which basically makes gmail your business's mail server.
