Any Cusack Park Events 18 or 19 Aug 2007 ???

My son and I will be in Ennis on 18 Aug 2007 and are currently scheduled to fly home on 19 Aug. I have not been able to locate any scheduled events for that weekend. An Irish friend states that football games are played mostly on Sundays and that a hurling match may also occur on the same day. If there are no events on the 18th and there would be on the 19th, I am willing to change our flight and leave on the 20th (paying a penalty). I can't imagine leaving Ireland without seeing a sporting event.

Any information to help me make a decision would be greatly appreciated.

The story is there may or may not be something on in cusack park that weekend. It would definately be some sort of club action within county Clare. The likelihood is that there would probably be some under age/ junior / intermediate maybe even senior match on that weekend but the dates for any club games in Clare would not be finalised for one or two weeks before hand. So you definately couldnt find out now anyway. Im in touch with the fixtures within clare and if u post something here closer to the time i could check it out for you, hope thats of some help :)

At that time of the year, there wouldn't be any inter-county matches being played at Cusack Park in Ennis as it would be at the All-Ireland semi final stage in both Hurling and Football.

All of these games would be played at Croke Park in Dublin, so the only games that would be played at Cusack Park would be Clare Championship matches. However, if Clare were to reach the semi-final's (more likely in Hurling than football) I doubt there would be any matches played there at all.

I don't know how the local championships are structured in Clare, but the "highest profile" match you would see at that time of the year would be second/third round matches in the Clare championships.

However, nearly all of the pubs in the town (or anywhere for that matter) would be showing the Croke Park matches on the television, so if you can't see it in the flesh at least you could see it on the TV.

Yes, the real action will be in Croke Park that weekend, with one of the All-Ireland Football Semi-Finals on the Sunday. There are also the U21 Hurling semi finals that weekend, but I don't know what the venue will be at this stage. As has been advised, find a pub or club somewhere and watch the games on the TV.

The third round of the Clare Senior football championship is scheduled for that weekend at present. It is usually the case that there would be a double header on both the saturday and the sunday in cusack park, especially round that time of year. Regardless of whether the third round goes ahead that weekned, there will be plenty of football and hurling to see around the ennis area, buy the previous friday's issue of the Clare Champion. About 5 pages from the end of the first section all that weekend's fixtures will be listed. With about 10 pitches within ten miles of Ennis, a taxi fare and entry fee would be well worth the price. Should Clare not reach the All-Ireland Hurling semi-finals, it is also likely that a round of the club hurling championship may be played that weekend. Enjoy your stay, but make sure you don't leave Ireland without at least having seen some form of GAA action.
