as the title says my laptop screen is very reflective

i think its to due with the high resolution 1920 by 1200 because if i get a anti glare screen it wont be as good as the one i have now

is there anything i can do or buy to reduce the glare

Cant think of a lapto yet that does not have a brightness control.manual or sofware driven....try turning it down...that normally does the trick...your res has got bugger all to do with it...failing that a good brand of sun glasses will surfice...ok is time for cho suie no. ;)

Is your screen a Truelife one from Dell?

I would say it is a Truelife... Funny thing is, people pay more for these screens and then cry because they are too shiny :D

Have to say I don't like glossy screens either, even though the laptop I have now has one. Best solution is don't sit with a light or bright area behind you.

I had a customer who had one of these he took around for presentations. It was an Acer but same type of screen. He never used it because it was so shiny. I actually think they are a bad idea and im not sure of the technical reason why they are so shiny. I know they have a much higher definition and black is more black etc but im sure this can be done without the need for a mirror :D

Its mainly for DVD playback, movies, photos and games. Which look better. But for everything else a matt screen is more useful.

I'm gonna be buying a laptop soon and this is my dilemma. The better contrast with the Truelife for video playback is a big thing for me but I can't stand all the reflection in bright light, so I dunno what to do really.

might be the way you have the graphics output configed. if your outputting to an external display this could lead to bad video output depending how you have things set up, if you only have the laptop screen being used then it's a bit stranger

    no

would that make a big difference?

would definitely be worth trying. Try the latest from the nvidia site, if they don't improve things, an earlier version might then be worth trying, or seeing what dell offer on their support pages
