RTE1 (Claremont Carn) Intermittant digital like breakup on analouge channel

Ive got RTE (analouge only -not a trace of a DTT signal) from Claremont carn but something Ive noticed is that occasionally (particularly on RTE1) there is this wierd freezing/breakup on picture with loss of sound lasting for a couple of seconds every now and again.

It looks like something one would see on a wet day with a misalligned satellite dish or on a freeview box in a dodgy aerial

Looks like RTE are feeding Claremont off a digital link but something is askew

    Anyone else notice this ?

They are changing to digital feeds, either microwave or fibre on all the transmitters. Maybe a flock of rooks in front of RX dish?

I've seen this happen a couple times recently here too - it was on some live broadcast so definately wasn't some tape problem eiteher.

RTE 1 TV via Spur Hill (Cork) has been suffering a lot of audio dropouts, sometimes the picture drops-out with the sound as well.

It does not appear to be happening via Mullaghanish transmitter however as this evening I did an experiment - I had two TVs tuned to RTE1 - one set on Spur Hill, the other on Mullaghanish ! - and I could hear both - during Primetime a couple of dropouts occured on Spur Hill but Mullaghanish carried on OK!

I have only noticed this problem on RTE1, not sure about the other Irish channels (It could be happening on the others but I dont watch them as much as RTE1!)

Out of interest was there any noticable delay between the two transmitters

I have this problem with RTE1 too - but only for about the last six months, before that all was well. There is no picture loss but annoyingly frequent and sometimes lengthy sound cut outs. Initially thought it was my arial but the other channels are ok. I am in Limerick city and have Chorus analogue. Is there anything I can do about it or is it a case of put up and shut up?

It's likely it's more Chorus' fault than RTÉ's in your case. They've been doing a lot of work recently upgrading the system.

I've also noticed some green blocks and pixelation appear on RTÉ1 from time to time. A little portable T.V. which gets its signal from Cairn Hill has no pixelation on it ever.

I know that you are Limerick based- is it happening to you too? Why just rte 1? My other channels are ok.

I don't watch RTE1 that much, so can't really say. Due to dodgy cabling in my house RTE1 is mostly unwatchable :(

I noticed a serious loss of quality on RTE2 from Cairn hill on tues and weds nights during Champion League matches.
Reception was very grainy and blotchy.

    No problems with RTE1, TV3 and TG4.

there is a delay, but difficult to notice, its so small (a tiny fraction of a second).
(though I recall a year or 2 ago there was an approx 2 second delay on TV3 for some weeks/months, with Spur Hill lagging, it was receiving off satellite for some reason!)

I haven't watched RTE1 much in recent days, but when I have, I haven't noticed any dropouts, so not sure if the problem is still there or if something has been done about it.

I noticed a severe but temporary power reduction from Cairn Hil a few weeks back the signal almost went down to nothing on all channels. Of course Rte would admit to nothing when i contacted them. Does anyone have diagonal lines on TV3 ch 46 from CHILL It is present even when no amp is used and all vcr, dvd sat boxes are off. Also tg4 on ch 50 is a lot weaker than Rtes 1 and 2 on 40 and 46 ?
