Buying new satellite meter - Help?

    Hello people,

I currently have a Skinka Electronics DSMC 10 Digital Satellite Meter (yellow brick type). I bought this 2nd hand off ebay a few years ago. However the thing is gone faulty. It gives me "SHUTTING DOWN" "LNB SHORT" everytime it is switched on, previously it would only do this when connected to the LNB.

Anyway to cut to the chase, I have decided to get myself a new satellite meter, I have done some looking around and there seems to be four good makes available. I was going to buy a spectrum analyser late last year but did research and then changed my mind, I want to be able to change the dish easily and use this to setup a USALS motor later on.

The meters I have in mind,

I would like to know if anybody here owns any of these or has ever used one of them? So far the Satlook Micro+ looks the best to me due to its lower price and good features. I want something that is future proof and can be programmed with new satellites that may launch in future.

I am just a hobbyist at this and since my old meter died I have become dependent on those Analogue type meters that are flogged on eBay everyday for around €5 (got mine in Lidl). They are okay for the strong satellites however though I want a the right tool for the job.

If there are other makes that I have missed please let me know.

Your help with would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, that's a tough decision, as they're all good meters. The least favourite woudl be the Lacuna - the Wolsey seems to be an updated version of the Lacuna, and with USB update options.

We got a Horizon meter last year, and I find it fantastic, much better onscreen information than the Lacuna.

I was going to recommend the Horizon as the best, until I looked at the Satlook. It seems a more professional meter, and seems to offer more onscreen technical data than any of the others. Satlook have always made very good meters too. At work there's an old analogue Satlook meter, which still works, though not used much anymore.

Basically, if you want a quick and handy way of setting dishes, then I recommend the Horizon. If you're more technical, maybe the Satlook is the one to go for.

    I have a satlook. Seems grand. I want a Promax 4C though.

Thanks for the advice fellas, I think i'll go for the Satlook Micro+, it has gotten good reviews on a few other sites I checked too. I will post up in a few weeks when I get it and have tested it out properly.
