Just wondering if anyone has compared all the different types of bottled water available. I'm living in Galway so as you would probably have read in the news we have a liuttle bit of a problem down here at the moment. So alot of water is being consumed.

I don't buy bottled water, it is a waste of money. It is fine from the tap. It is just water!

ed: If I had to buy some, probably Tesco or Dunnes.

We can't unless we wants to stay in the toilet all day.
Btw, it's safe to drink bottled Galway Irish Spring Water

Not quite true. If you drink 8 litres of it in the space of an hour you could die.

At home, tap. At work, water from aldi or lidl.

Ruu - Thought you were in the states?

Oh, and who thinks we should just bite the bullet and rename "After Hours" to "Something has popped into my head and I must tell / ask the world"

I usually drink bottled water in pubs because I'm driving but I get annoyed when I ask for Ballygowan and they serve whatever they happen to have. The worst offender is the Grand in Tramore where they serve their own brand water in bottles with a fancy name - tastes very like the local tap to me. They only caught me once though!

Volvic water was found to have an Arsenic content that exceeds EU levels.

Dunnes or Tesco value water (33 cents for 2 liters) does the job...

Looks like bottled water is no longer the flavour of teh month in
the US... cant believe it but looks like the septics have done something
    right for once.

"Bye-bye bottled water. Hello eau de tap. A new trend is in the pipeline, with some upscale restaurants ditching packaged H2O in the name of conservation.

The bottled water backlash, which recently spread to the venerable Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkeley, is spurred by environmental concerns over the energy used in transportation as well as the disposal of all those containers."

If you ever see it grab a bottle of Issabelle water. You will only get it in some places but I have to say it is the most refreshing H2O I have ever had.

You beat me to it re the environmental point. Not that that stops me nonetheless getting up on the ol' high horse and banging on about the Irish importing water being as daft as Iceland importing ice, arabs buying sand etc - vittel, volvic, or aldi/ lidl brands all equal offenders in my book... But for the really stupid conscience-free consumer, try norwegian "Voss" available at €9 per 250ml in the Ice bar beside RDS and also off Baggot St, D2.

Obviously none of the above criticisms are applicable to our Galwegian friend - but imo he/ she should keep all bills/ receipts and direct them to "Minister for the Environment" Dick Roche, who was made aware of the problems re Corrib pollution long ago  (see RTE interview from 8:50 this morning).

If I'm buying a 500ml bottle in the shop, Volvic FTW.

If it's for general home consumption (we use filtered tap water), then get yer bulky Tesco stuff.

Actually the Govt. awarded the money 5 years ago. It's been an issue with the Council for the last 2. The current Lord Mayor is A Green Councillor so everybody is to blame.

    Anyway back on topic,

Tipperary, Kerry Spring and Tyrone Spring, Ballygowan nice too.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

I can't believe anyone would say RiverRock... all you can taste off it is a strong hint of the plastic bottle it comes in.

I have a water filter at home and a cooler in the office.... so I rarely buy any brands... I think the local shop does some manner of Kerry water though that I've been known to purchase.

If I'm buying something for the car it's usually Galway bottled water. I don't care about brand the only reason I choose Galway water is to support local business.

Other than that I just get the purified tap water from the dispenser at eurospar €1.20 for 5 litres. I wonder are those machines good enough to kill off whatever was in the Galway water?

    rofl, brilliant.

bottled water brand allegiance is predominantly the triumph of marketing over common sense. Apart from almost insignificant differences in mineral content, and as has been said in this thread a number of times, water is water.

In a blind taste test I would be extremely surprised if anyone could consistently tell the difference between any of the brands stated here. Tap water is an obvious exception due to the addition of fluoride and other substances during treatment.

While I buy very little bottled water and just go for the cheapest when I'm out I can definitely notice a difference between the brands.

With the notable exception of the case in Galway, people who pay for bottled water in this country would really want to cop themselves on.
We have more fresh water falling from the skies than we know what to do with. It is, in the vast majority of cases completely safe and healthy.

Some forms of bottled water are actually more expensive than petrol now!! The water companies seem to have done a fantastic job in convincing us that there is something wrong with tap water, when there is not.

People who buy bottled water seem to think they're going for a pure, unadulterated option...despite the fact that it's bottled in a plastic container that will languish in landfill for hundreds of years.

There are developing nations that would die for the water we have in this country- its practically free and delivered straight to our door. The madness of bottled water is one of the most ridiculous things about this country.
