Just back from the SE where the opening game was PLO, we then moved to 5 card PLO, we then moved to Coure Cheval and then on to PL 7 Card Stud.

Very interesting to say the least. Should be a regular weekly event.

    cash game or tournament?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,751 ✭✭✭BigCityBanker

    cash games

a couple of guys in before heading to the airport after the IO. By the time the stud started we were 4 handed. It was an enjoyable few hours of cards, good craic to play other forms.

Yeah was good fun last night. At the start of the night we started plo 4 handed [allbeit with some monetary inducements]. At one stage the game was full. BCB got slighty slowrolled in one hand and mega slowrolled in another hand.

The other games were good fun as i hadnt played them live in a while. I would consider 7-stud plo the most skillful of poker varients especially when played shorthanded.

Courcheval is a great gambling game and as Laurent said the big pots will usually consist of a big wrap around the door card and a set with flush draw with the door card.

On a different note it would be nice to get omaha going on a regular basis in the S.E. I know of a few people who will play on a regular basis and I think some of the Full Tilt people will also play. [and maybe even the chief BCB!]

If Omaha got regularly going in the SE I would definitely consider going there for cash games. If only they could get the food issue sorted out as well.

Could somebody explain the rules of Coure Cheval ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 375 ✭✭kebabfest

Here who would be interested in playing a €200 Freezeout H.O.R.S.E. tourney ?
If we had numbers I am sure SE would agree to run it.

is there anything wikipedia doesn't know?

"In the game of "Courchevel", popular in Europe, instead of betting on the initial four cards and then flopping three community cards for the second round, the first community card is dealt before the first betting round, so that each player has four private cards and the single community card on his first bet. Then two more community cards are dealt, and play proceeds exactly as in Omaha"

This thread made me remember the genius poker deviant that is Anaconda.
I have vague memories of playing this as a young student in the States for a fortnight's wages with Korean BBQ chefs who hadn't a word of English (but very sharp meat cleavers). Happy days!

When is the autobiography out? I would buy it.

Believe me, working in a Korean restaraunt as the only whitey bar the owner is no fun - a situation brought about by foolishness and desperation....wouldn't be a great read.

and I never want to eat or smell kimchi again.

or play Anaconda come to think of it

Courcheval is a 5 card omaha game. Once the cards are dealt the top card is dealt and becomes the first community card. There is then a round of betting. After this there is a burn and 2 more community cards are exposed. The game then plays out as normal omaha.

As far as im aware the game is only played live in L'aviation Club de Paris. There website has a more definitive explanation of the game as far as i know.

I definatley would aswell. The €50 Omaha game in the fitz is definatley of a good standard usually and thats why I dont play it as much anymore. There are far softer games to be played in Dublin.

I really dont understand why the SE dont just put on a small menu. The food in the Fitz is great and reasonably priced and is one of a few reasons why I like to play there more than the SE.

While on the subject......... I also think the SE need to invest in a few new decks of cards! They use bridge cards FFS!!!! Its little things like this that will lose them customers IMO.

I agree with you on the cards and food - but the place is flying. Card - room is doing great business of late.

yah, it'll easily pay for Dermot Desmond's moustache-grooming bill

the Chief was still banned as of Thursday though and their aircon wasn't working, I blame this for dropping 2 buy-ins with TPTK....:( (can I sue?)

I agree with you and I think the games are the softest around (but getting better), however it just pisses me off that they don't really seem to care about the poker players as much as the Fitz. Maybe its stupid but I like the banter in the Fitz and its a big part of why I play there. I know we should be looking for the softest games and thats it but I like to enjoy live poker on more levels than just the money.

I havent played in the SE in a while so maybe I'm being harsh and I should try it out.

Also, its not suprising the SE is flying due its location and the fact that it is the "classy" casino in dublin therefore attracting Big Timers with more money than sense!

They don't care about the poker players at all. It seems to me that John and Alex are constantly fighting a battle with upper management in the place to do what they want to do in the place.
yeh John and Alex are doing a great job but I don't think the superpowers in the SE seem to realise that there is actually a poker room upstairs!!! How hard can it be to buy a few decks of nice cards though? they are constantly requested by people but they seem to just ignore it!!!

Did they get rid of that other English guy actually? small fella with fair hair? He was a right pr**k!

I was told last night that a reatauraunt will be available in 2 weeks (ive heard that before tho)

Edit: I get it aipf with KKQJ double suited and villian sighs and says "there suited" or something similar. I ask if he has aces and he say no. I expose my hand and he then turns over AAds. The sweetest K you ever seen popped up on the flop but unfortunately he rivered the 6d for a flush. even more annoying considering I had two diamonds.

I thought that at the start they told people a restaurant would be available within a couple of months? If they do get their food act together then I can definitely see the poker expanding even more.

I'd love to be able to play some HORSE cash games in Dublin. Pretty sure a €200 freezeout would be no bigger than a single table sit n go. In Ireland you're a well rounded poker player if you play NLHE *and* PLO, if you play O8 too you're a pro!

    You're probably right.
Real shame there arent more different games on offer. if the 7 card stud games become once a week regular in the SE I would defo head down there for that at least.
I have to say I find NLHE for cash extremely boring over a long period.

8 card draw is the nuts!

    As is unlimited holdem.

    As is crocodile stud.

I wouldnt be a big stakes player. The height of my stakes would be the 100 Omaha game in the Fitz after 10 pints. (decided to stop this recently , but I know whats going to happen the next time I am loaded in town without a taxi home !!)
    Crocodile Stud is what ?
