    Hi,

I am experiencing poor reception on TV3 when I have my BBC amplifier switched on. However when I power the BBC amplifier off, TV3 reception is perfect.

I live near the transmitter on Mout Leinster in County Wexford \ Carlow border.

Can anyone advise me as to what is the best way to fix this problem??

    Thanks in advance.

    Mark.

Can you let us know what happens to TG4 when your UHF amp is powered and when it is not?

    Hey Foggy,

When amp is off, TG4 are perfect, yet switch it on and I get poor reception on both.

There are lads here who will be far more expert than me but I believe being close too Mount Leinster the amp is over doing it. I think this can cause problems. I will have to look up exactly what problems it can cause.

I am pretty sure Divis and Brougher Mountain use the same channels for Digital TV but even with an amp I can't see you getting these channels.

On a previous thread one of the lads gave this link....

    http://www.abc.net.au/reception/tv/tv_interference.htm

    Is this any help?

If not we may need more info on your amp.

If the UK Channels are in a different group to TV3/TG4 you could use filtered diplexers ("group combiners") with DC passthrough with the cable from the amp on one input and the cable from your TV3/4 aerial on the other

might also be worth sticking a group bandpass filter on the input of the amp

    I am just wondering!
I have forgotten exactly what over amplification can do to your TV picture. Is it a case of amplifing can just make a reception problem worse?

In short, you can't make a good signal from a bad one just by using an amp. An incoming signal must be above and below certain thresholds, as defined by the manufacturer of the equipment being used.

Amplifying a bad signal will just amplify the noise, too. Amplifying an overly-strong signal will cause cross-modulation, where the harmonics of the channels will beat against each other, mucking everything up on the entire band.
