During our last meet at NCAD in Dublin we discussed another meet up for May.

The suggestion is to take a car trip to the Avoca valley for a visit to Avondale Forest Park the former home of Charles Stuart Parnell ... and Avoca village Wicklow

    http://www.coillte.ie/tourism_and_recreation/ww_avondale_home_parnell.htm

    http://www.avoca.com/

    http://www.visitwicklow.ie/AvocaMain.htm

The grounds are pretty big with lots of nature walks, river, railway, a cairn, a collection of tree plantations from different continents ... the house itself is quite interesting too .... it is set in the Avoca valley not too far away form the village of Avoca (or Ballykissangel for those of you old enough to remember!!) ...

This one requires transport so I am suggesting we get a few cars together depending on numbers ... myself and Elven have a car each so between us I guess that means we can accomodate 8 ...

I suggest we try to do it on a Saturday or Sunday ... we would need to leave Dublin quite early ... say around 10am ... drive is about 1 hour down the N11 past Newtownmountkennedy ...

Car park costs €5 ... the house entry €6 (but you don't really need to go into the house to enjoy the place) ...

    Proposed Dates -

    Sat 19th May (current preferred)
    Sun 20th May
    Sat 26th May
    Sun 27th May ...

Which of the following would you like to attend (two choices are allowed) ? 4 votes

Sat 26th May trip to Ireland's eye

    Sunday 27th May Avondale outing

I don't know if this is a consideration, but the FA Cup final is on the 19th May...

Isn't the 27th the date for the Ireland's Eye boat trip?

maybe that's why the 19th is the preferred date.

Count me in! Whatever dates. I want to make the Irelands Eye one too though, so 19th or 20th sounds good (couldn't care less about the football).

I'd like the 26th because if I was to come up, I'd like to catch this one and the Irelands eye meet at the same time (or on the same weekend at least).

Maybe a 2 trips 1 weekend is a good idea to make it more attractive to some of our non Pale based brethren ... I'd be up for that ... on the 26th weekend ... Rymus you are welcome to stay here if you like ... there's a spare double bed and a big couch

... we could probably put a Photoshop session at my place on the Sat evening ... followed by beers ...

I never noticed the post on the Ireland's eye or I would have maybe pushed it further out ... but if there is sufficient interest then why not do 2 weekends in a row or a double weekend ... as regards FA Cup ... this holds not a lot of interest for me ... but let's see what the general consensus on dates is first ...

Was chatting to Mikey about this last night ... we could go for a bumper weekend with the following -

    26th -
    Ireland's eye trip morning
Red Bull X-Fighters in the afternoon / evening at Slane (this is why Mikey is otherswise engaged on 27th)
    Back to Dublin for pints

27th - Avondale trip morning (departing after say about 10:30 to allow hangovers to lift a little)

People can come and go as they please to parts but not all ...

    Opinions ?

Who's up for what parts ?

Me ... I'll do Ireland's eye pints and Avondale .... I've enough red bull ...

Not going to able to make it to the Avondale thing on sunday have to stay around dublin and saturday is out of the question for me.

leinsterman if it goes the way of
    26th - Ireland's eye
    27th - Avondale trip

Can you look after the Ireland's eye stuff.

    I'd love to go!

I'm curious what bizarre set of circumstances will stop me from going this time.

Working the 19th and flying to Canada on the 26th... so that means I'm out again for this one  Least I have the Algonquin national park to look forward to :D

All sounds good to me. I'm up for whatever date is agreed.

I also have a car so can take passengers and if anyone is staying overnight I have a guest room available.

    ... I think I'm over complicating things here ...

    Sat 26th for Ireland's eye
    Sun 27th for Avondale ...

... the rest can be handled on the day ...

I'll see if I can add a poll to the thread ...

I am at the Red Bull on the 26th matey hence why I said to go for the 27th but if its over 2 days then whatever is taking place on the 27th, I'll be there within reason.

Oh my god, you must like photography :-)

My car has driven 26.ooo miles in 8 month in Ireland. If I go, I could take one passenger (I have a van).
