Just as the title says, we're hosting a BJJ workshop with renowned BJJ Black Belt John Kavanagh this coming Friday. If it's anything like the last time we had John over it'll be a fantastic night. Last time out John gave us drills, hints and tips that I'm still using so I for one am really looking forward to it.

Anyway, the quota for members of my club is full, and we have 3 remaining spaces that I left by for anyone who has an interest in BJJ or grappling to take. The price is €30 for three hours, 7pm-10pm on Friday evening. It would be suitable for all levels as you'll be paired with someone of similar experience to yourself to work with. The atmosphere will be, as always, friendly and relaxed and cool.

A BJJ or kratty Gi(suit) is handy but not vital for this workshop.

If you would like to attend or need more info, use the contact details at the bottom of my signature to get in touch.

Two spaces left. As an incentive, you'll get to meet me, and I may pose for a photo with you. One for the grandkids folks, how about it?

I'd nearly cancel my holidays for that photo....

But seriously I would have gone to the seminar but I'll be away. :(

I might take you up on one.

I'm licking my wounds after four (yes FOUR) defeats out of five fights on Saturday :(

I have Judo training tonight, not looking forward to it, but its a case of getting back up on the bike after falling off.

If you get to give it away go ahead.

I'm playing happy families at the moment for an easy life so it depends on what she says tomorrow. But I'll let you know.

Stupid Q Barry, but since I'll either be working afterwards or going for a pint, is there shower facilities?.

I can bring some baby wipes if you want? They're better than nowt in a pinch. :)

Well....I brought the baby wipes for ya anyway Mairt. Not sure if you were there. I was the baldy, unshaven (long week) lad in the blue t-shirt and adidas tracky bottoms.

Just wanted to say thanks to John and Barry. Had a great time. Felt like a total noob, because I was one. :) Really enjoyed that. I think it was aimed more at non-beginners, but I learned a shed load.

The free rolling at the start was great craic, but I hadn't a clue. Actually got past the guard once or twice, but had absolutely no idea what to do from there. Rolled with a girl whose name I can't remember and at one point she had her legs wrapped around my waist and we were in a bit of a stalemate. I just started laughing and said "well.....I've no idea what to do from here". She was a lot more skillful than I despite claiming to be a beginner. Also rolled twice with uberpixie who was a shed load more skillful than me. Had a similar "where do we go from here" experience with him if memory serves.

Oh, and thanks to both Justin and uberpixie for being patient with me.

Overall great craic. Money well spent.

Thanks to John and Barry for arranging the seminar. Had a ball and I managed to pick up a trick or two.:D

Johns points on how to properly warm up were a nice addition, it's something it is not always covered at a seminar and it is always good to go over.

Thankfully it is something Barry regularly beats into heads at the club, especially before competition.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the rolling, it can be a bit strange and intimidating the first time you try it, you really do feel lost, especially when you get someone who really knows what they are doing and has you tied up in knots and tapping after a few seconds!

Don't worry about the stalemating when you were rolling, thats a very good place to be as a total beginner and highlights my severe lack of sweeps and attacks when I am on bottom.:D

It's always good to roll against a beginner, they don't react the same way as you usual training partners and can totally throw you off at times and also it's keep your ego in check (BBJ is very good at this!) when they stop you from totally dominating them and you realise how much work you still have to do and the weaknesses you still have.

I'm about 6 months in, I can just about defend from the bottom, I just need to learn how to attack properly!

Glad you enjoyed the seminar, it was good to roll with you and to put a face to a name.

Was nice to meet you Khannie. As for beginner/advanced focus, I think the difference between a lot of the stuff making sense and not making sense was just wearing a jacket!

Anyway, glad you enjoyed it and hopefully you got the bug!

LOL, that was me. I was doing my best with you but you just kept moving like a hyperactive small child, couldn't pin you down :D

Was a good night, I learned lots, thanks to those involved in making it happen.
