It would be mad if you go for this one, yeah. It's 1980, so you still have to NCT it and pay road tax on a 4.2 litre :-) Get something that's 3 years older and you're saving yourself about €1300 in tax alone :-) and no need for an NCT.

Its not viable really. Unless you are pretty well off and proberly nearer 30 than 20. Insurance companies will hammer anyone not in the Micra class if a newbie.

How old are you, whats your licence and are you rich?! D

    Mike.

By the way, the seller isn't telling the truth in the the ad. He says €60 road tax a year and no need for an NCT. The car has to be 30 years old for that and this one's only 27!!!

In addition to things not adding up, it's a Series 2 XJ6. The Series 3 was introduced in March 1979 and I've never seen a 1980 Series 2 (because there wasn't one AFAIK).

Nice car, but the seller appears to be telling a few porkies.

    Cheers,
    Rich

What do you want it to do? What sort of car would you like? (convertible/hatchback/saloon/estate/etc) What can you afford to run?(ongoing costs - petrol/repairs/insurance)

Make sure you check out the insurance end before you do anything, as to my knowlegde, none of the insurers are willing to insure you on a classic policy unless you have a FULL license.

I think the age of the car is wrongly stated in the add, it looks to be a series 2, swb (I cant see the front grille, but the lack of the chrome bezels around the speedometer/tacho would suggest an S2. HOWEVER, it could be that the car is in fact an S2, but due to missing paperwork or whatever, it might have been imported with a date of first registration of 1980: in that case you will still be liable for tax and NCT, so better do your homework properly, before starting on anything like this.

To be honest, starting with a Jag as your first classic isn't probably the best of choices: my suggestion go for a Volvo Amazon, VW Beetle (or Karmann Ghia, or Type 3), MG B, Ford Escort/Cortina, something along those lines: simple to maintain, relatively troublefree, easy to learn more about how the car runs and how to fix stuff, cheap parts and servicing.

Without seeing it from the front its hard to tell for sure but I even suspect thgis car is a Series one, judging by the lower front bumper and what appears to be the chrome grill/indicator unit above it.

The Series 2 has a higher bumper at the front !

It is in fact a series 1 Daimler.
This wouldnt be a practical car as a starter and is way overpriced!

you could maybe go for a good VW beetle, you would get one cheaper than 10 grand thou, and engine size would'nt be too big if it wasn't vintage in relation to taxing it and insuring.
Alternatively i'm selling my 1989 1.8l vw golf cabriolet if your interested. but the engine size and the fact its a soft top, being a first time driver they could hammer you.0876413319
    Good luck
