Lumines is the best game you can get for longevity. Brilliant puzzle game that never tires. Loco Roco is very short but is a truly wonderful game, definitely pick it up. You should be able to pick up Gradius collection for very cheap now. 5 well and truly brilliant games on one disc. The price alone is worth it for Gradius Gaiden. Wipeout works remarkably well on the PSP and should be very cheap also. There's really not much else other than MGS: Portable Ops which I haven't played yet. There's enough good games, it's just that the DS has a larger range of much better games and due to the great battery life is a better portable machine.

I'd get some homebrew and emulators if you go for a PSP. You will then have an almost infinite amount of classics even if the controls are ****e.

    Never liked Nentendo consoles, and if they keep on going that way I never will. I think your making a good choice with the PSP and my pick of the load would be;
    The 2 GTA's
    MGS: PO
Medal of Honour: Heroes (especially if your interested in going online)
    Pro Evo 6
    WipeOut
    Colin McRae Rally
    Burnout
Tekken, Mortal Kombat & Street Fighter
    Prince of Persia
    007: From Russia with Love

There's alot more trust me. I'd pick the ones near the top.

Football Manager Handheld 2007 (if you like those footie management games)
Tiger Woods 07 - although I see 08 is out at the end of this month
Everybody's Golf - well, I liked it anyway

with the psp you have a decent choice!

beat em ups : tekken and street fighter alpha two max beta gamma whateverits callednow!

racing : ridge racer and wipeout. stand the test of time.

shoot em ups/FPS : medal of honour, syphon filter, MGS Portable Ops.

    Puzzle: Lumines, Loco Roco.

RPG: well the first two Final Fantasy's will be released as anniversary editions (hopefully soon!) so you got them to look forward to. (I'm hooked on FF III on the DS!)

Don't bother with the Final Fantasy's. FF1 has aged badly and FF2 was always terrible.

If you want a good RPG go for Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Great PS1 game brought up to date on the PSP.

Hot Shots Golf (Everybodys Golf in Europe) is imho the best game on the PSP by a long way for replayability.I'm still playing it since the week of it's release (2+ years hehe)

I've Sims 2, and I've found it very fustrating to play. It takes about 2 hours to get out of the opening area (and that's supposed to be very short!)
