I got Motorstorm today from a friend, put it in my PS3, tried to play online, had to downlaod the latest patch... everything worked fine...

Then i took out Motorstorm, put in GH3 and nothing!

    I tried:

    More Games
    Blu-Ray films
    DVD
    CD......

I hear a few people have had this issue with the 40gig PS3?

What should I do? is there a fix? Or just send it away? :(

Seems the 40gig model has a higher failure rate, some Dutch site reported it being as high as 40% but that seems very...

I'll just ring Sony Ireland Monday and see what they say, Ill probably have to ship it back to komplett :(

its actually mostly the older 60GB models that give trouble.

It's funny though ,sony found a good way to use the ps3's that are sent back. They use them as part of their super servers.:D no need for blu-ray.

I live like down the road from Conzy, he told me about this yesterday and i woke up this morning to find my ps3 had decided to go and do the same thing...

    "Buy a PS3, there's a 60% chance it'll actually work!"

wonder why that's not on the box...

Did Sony replace it with a new console? Where did you buy it?

Did you have to return all the accessories and original packaging or just the console?

I had the exact same prob before over Christmas. Updated to 2.0.9 and then 2.0.10 I think the version was, it worked for a bit but then started making a clunky noise and stopped reading all DVD's, Games and Blueray discs. Brough it back into Gamestop, it was past the 30 days from when I bought it, but they replaced it straight away. I haven't updated it since.

    I had the 40GB version.

Seems like alot of people have had disc drives fail in their PS3

anyone had their 60GB replaced with same or are these all 40s that are being returned?

Dam it  same issue happened with our PS3 over the weekend.
Was settling in watchin our 1st Blue Ray movie (Casino Royale) and about 15 minutes into the film bang screen frooze and the drive started to spin up.
Gave it a minute and powered it off and reset back to factory settings no Joy:(

It wasn't even being over used as it was only got in Mid December and all we had done is play some PES and watch a couple of DVD's.
Pain in the hole may bring it back to GameStop now.

this sounds a bit familiar to my problem.
basically 99% of the time there is no problem but the odd time the ps3 doesn't recognise a game is in the drive and makes a clunky noise. now all I have to do its turn it off and back on and its perfect straight away but is this something that could get worse?
I have ps3 since about April and its only happened a handful of times but I'm just nervous of it completely failing when the warranty is out.

p.s. I have the 60gig so what happens if Sony say they will replace ps3? give me a 40gig and my tough?

Yep, they had a delivery guy come and collect it (just the machine in the box, no accessories) and the following week got a refurbished one back. No probs. The reason I had to get it collected and not bring it back to the shop was because it was a 60 gig and I wanted a 60 gig in return and HMV (where I bought it) had no 60 gigs in stock (obviously).

grrr they're refusing to admit that there's a problem and they want 160 euros to fix it.....small claims court beckons i think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,268 ✭✭✭Elessar

Just make sure not to make the rookie mistake and go after Sony with the small claims. It's the retailer you must go after, as your contract of sale is with them. :)
