Dell Dimension 5000. 250GB Sata HArd Drive as standard. I just bought a 750GB Sata hard drive and installed it. It shots perfectly into the shot beside the 250GB in its little plastic cradle. The poer cable to the 250GB has an extension which is placed perfectly fr the new hard drive. Connected that and then ran a second sata cable to it's socket. Switched on the computer, but it is not seeing it.

Went into "Computer Management" did a 'Rescan Disks' - still no joy.

    What do I do not?
    Please help!
    Thanks

Is it showing in the bios (del or f1 key on boot up)? If it isn't then you may need to reseat the cables as its not being picked up at all.
If it shows in the bios, can you see it in disk management under computer management? If so it just needs to be formatted.

It more than likely needs formatting,
Rightclick my computer in start menu and click manage
    Click on Disk Management
Right click to the left of the 750gig volume and "Initialise disk"
Then right click the disk and click New Partition or format iirc and format the drive to NTFS
