    Hi everyone,

Just an advance heads up that this event is on again this year.

There will be classes for cars up to 1983. Road legal of course.

We will be starting from Kiely's in Mount Merrion, sign on from 10 am,first
    car away at 11am.

Lunch will be a leisurely affair in Avondale House in Rathdrum with plenty
of time to admire the other cars ,talk cars or even have something to
    eat !

There will be a choice of routes for the afternoon leg depending on the age
of your car finishing in The Wicklow Arms in Delgany for results and awards.

On route there will be regularity sections and an observation test.
Regs will be on our website shortly http://www.leinstermotorclub.com/
or contact the Clark of the course John Bolton on 087 6750770.

So come along and give that classic a good spin instead of just looking
    at it !

If you have any questions or comments post them up and I'll try
    and answer them !

Look forward to seeing a few of you on the day.

    Dave

Well it seems everyone had a good time last year. Do you have to be a member to enter, and how much is it ?

I'd like to come along, but not that interested in time trials, unless it was fairly gentle !

    Hi Mercmad,

No you dont have to be a member, everyone and everycar welcome- the
more the merrier and the more diverse the better!!

Entry fee is not set yet but will be in the region of E25/30.

Dont be too worried about 'time trial' aspect- it will be some
sections of the route where you have to drive at a specified average
speed , no more than 30 mph. If you dont its not the end of
the world you will just lose some marks. Its a lot trickier than it
sounds but good fun to try and get right. The same with the
observation test, some competitors dont even hand in their
sheets at the finish and thats okay the main thing is just to
enjoy the day out in your car with some like-minded people.

Hope this is of some help,

    Dave

    Everyone,

Just to follow up on the above post by Welder. This is by far and away the best rally of the summer season and it’s essential that you don’t miss it. I’ve taken part in it for the last 6 years and it just gets better and better with all types of rally enthusiast being catered for and huge variety of cars being used.

We start with a static display in Kiely's Mount Merrion to show off the fruits of your labour while you relax with a morning cup of coffee.

For those of you who just like to cruise for the day, the routes that are taken are some of the most scenic in the whole of Wicklow, with a great variety of forest, country and sea side roads being used. Those that feel their competitive streak coming out can get involved in timed regularities throughout the course while adhering to a predefined average speed depending on the vehicles age. Finally for those with children or in saloons, they have the option of the ever entertaining observation tests that are both fun and challenging for children and adults.

A huge amount of time and effort has gone into the preparation of this rally by the Leinster motor club and their friends so its definitely not a day to be missed.

A lot of people said last year they wanted more notice of the event so this year the lads from the Leinster Motor Club have made sure that everyone is briefed nice and early so there no excuse now for not coming along.

I hope we can use this maybe as one of the "official" Boards classic car summer gatherings as it would be great to see everyone.

This sounds like a really nice day out, though I'm a bit dubious of having to drive at 30mph all day... (my car only has two speeds - slow and fast).

Is this limit just for certain timed stages, or 'encouraged' all the way around Wicklow? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭welder

    Hi Dades,

No it will not be for the full route only certain sections. Its regularity
not a limit. The idea is to drive at an average of 30 or whatever is
specified for that section ,wont be more than 30 mph, until the
end of that section. Sounds boring until you try to do it ! Slow
down to 20 say for a corner then you have to go faster than 30
to get your average back because you wont know where the time
control is, it could be round the next corner ! If you dont get it right
it does not matter you'll still have a great spin through nice
countryside . This is the way rallies were run before special stages and
events like the classic marathon and Peking-Paris would still run like this,
    although with tighter timekeeping.

There will also be an devious observation test to try your skill at.

I used to do a lot of these type events, plus tulip rallies etc.,and when you consider than on pretty much any given journey, outside of the cities your average speed is actually 40-44MPH, the 30MPH average is pretty hard to achieve accurately !

Thanks guys - I shall check if the missis is up for this!

(Well, somebody needs to make the picnic...)

    Hi everyone,

Have had a really good response to the rally so far with huge diversity in the vehicles that will be in attendance and numbers hovering around the 40 mark!

We have everything from Model T Fords through to pre war Lancia's, Jaguars, MG's, Mercs, De Loreans, Austins, Rolls Royce's, Citroen's and Lagondas.

So this is your last chance to get the car out and come along on what will be a great rally and hopefully the weather will hold out for us too.

Hope to see you all on Sunday

    Denis

    The car is polished.

    The maps are packed.

Can't convince the OH about the 'period costume' though, so we'll be dressed conventionally :pac:

Really looking forward to this day out!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭welder

Thanks to everyone who came along yesterday. We had an amazing selection
of cars in the 57 strong entry. From a Model T Ford whose navigator had
been present at the very first Leinster run in the fifties to a Delorean
complete with hover board ! From a rally prepped Mini to a race prepped
Lancia and just about everything in between !

Thanks also to all officials and marshalls who gave up a sunny sunday
to help, everyone at Kielys, Avondale house and The Wicklow Arms
for their help and to everyone here and on other web groups, clubs
and the media for helping to spread the word.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments please post them up here
or pm me and I'll take them back to the committee to help make the
    next event even better.

    Thanks again,

Dave and the Leinster Motor Club team

Thank you Dave et al, for a really great day out! All your hard work really was appreciated!

Everyone was so friendly and helpful.

We had so much fun on our first attempt...and bringing home the very shiny Ladies Cup was the icing on the cake for us.

We'll definitely be back for next year!

Thoroughly recommended for anyone who actually wants to get out and use their classic!

Pics later if anyone wants to see some
