    Hiya All

i was hoping if anyone could tell me if there is a difference between the primary teacher training colleges in dublin. i have applied for them all for this coming sept. i was wondering if past pupils etc or anyone had any experience/idea if there is a great difference in the diffuculty of the courses or in the employment rates etc..

Would really appreciate any advice/info please. thanks a million.

    Cheers
    :)

Currently doing the postgrad in Froebel.

AFAIK Froebel differs to Pats in that it is based on Friedrich Froebels ideas about children learning through play. The teaching is child-centred and based around play and group work.

I know two principals who have told me that they would hire a Froebel grad over a Pats grad.
I'm sure there are others who would disagree, but thats my experience anyway.

If you've anything more specific to ask, PM me if you want!

Marino has more emphasis on Irish. You dont have to be fluent to go there like a lot of people think. we just foster the irish culture...dance, music, lang etc

Have also been told by principals that they'd hire a marino grad over a pats one but i think its all relative tbh!

    id recommend Marino.....but im biased!!

Well Iv been told by a number of principals that they'd hire a Mary I grad over any other teaching training college grad!

:D:D..Sorry just had to throw that in there after yer comments seeing as ye were all doing it!
However I don't think the whole thing matters a damn.

and all the principals I know would hire a Hibernia Graduate above all other colleges cos of their maturity and life experience you cant learn in the traditional colleges................ha ha only puttin my 2 cents here since the others are mentioned

College is what you make it-Your either born a teacher or not!!!

I'm in Mary I, therefore if I wanted to get into Pat's I could have..but I didn't have it on my list and and nor might some other people here.

I hope your not doing a B.Ed as you've a lot of growing up to do yourself.

it's not the college that makes a great teacher but the experience tat we gain while out in the class room be it on T.P or while in our own class, i've learned more than i ever learned in my three years of college while having my own class this year. :o
I'm sure each college has it's own positives and negatives so it's really up to you to do research each one as they all vary with regards to how long teaching practise is, what subjects you choose to do, atmosphere, etc. Best of Luck :D
